The TRUTH finally LEAKED… | New Jersey Devils News

The truth finally leaked we think. Luke Hughes, Tom Fitzgerald, contract negotiations, all the good stuff. And we’ve got a little note on Nate Bastion. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome into Devil’s Digest. I’m your host, Ryan the Gooseger here with you as always, bringing you the latest, greatest Devil’s content as per usual on the channel. Before we get into the program, I want to give you a chance to be a subscriber to the channel. We need your help to get to 1,000 subscribers before opening night. That’s the goal. So, help us get there. We’re just over the 700 plateau. We need your help to get to 1,000 before opening night. Now, let’s get into the program. Again, just talking about we’re trying to find any little piece of news we can get on this Luke Hughes contract and potential extension and what it may look like for New Jersey. And something that I came across again not earthshattering, but trying to give us a little inside scoop on the information is that the desire on both sides is for this not to be a bridge deal, for it to be in the seven-year or potentially eight-year range. As you know, if if you’re not caught up with the new CBA, the 8-year contract will be basically outlawed in that new CBA. So, if you’re going to get an 8-year contract on, you might as well do it now. So, it it seems like there’s a desire between Luke and the Devils to do something long-term, not just a bridge, which we’ve talked about. People have commented on videos that, you know, potentially that’s a better route for New Jersey. But what I also think this signifies is we’re not looking at again I did a video on this last week that there has to be a corresponding move because if they’re going seven eight years it’s going to be in the seven and a half AAV to 8 and a half AAV. I don’t think it gets to nine anymore. Nine and a half. I I know some of those numbers had been floated out like earlier in the off season. I think somewhere between seven and a half and eight and a half AV is where the Devils and Luke Hughes end up agreeing on a contract. However, there has to be a move associated with that to create the cap space. We did say if it was a bridge deal then, you know, potentially I I don’t know what the AAV would have looked like, but potentially they could have come in under the cap, not had to make any moves. But now if if they’re going longterm, which again, all all sources are pointing to that there’s a desire to get there on both sides, not just one side, on both sides. If there’s a desire to get there, then I I have to I would have to imagine we’re going to end up in a spot like that. And then, like I said, I think a long-term deal, you’re looking at an AAV of seven and a half and up. Probably, you know, up meaning probably eight and a half, maybe 8.75, something like that. I don’t think it gets to nine. Okay. But again, just trying to get you guys as much information as we can into some of these negotiations because I know it’s frustrating and again, this is like the last what we think is the last Devil’s last move, right? We’re we’re less than less than a month away from training camp and we’re less than two months away from the season. So, you can’t expect them to make seismic changes to this roster anymore. You would have to figure that this is the last move they have to make for the offseason, which again is disappointing and is a whole different whole different video. We could do a whole, you know, 20 minutes on that about whether this should be enough or not. However, that seems to be the last move in the Devils off season. So, we’re it’s just a waiting game. You know, I think we’re I I think I was looking at the counter the other day. It’s, you know, we’re well over 30 days since, you know, Tom said he’s the number one priority to get signed. And you know, again, I think this deal is going to happen. I don’t foresee it getting ugly and getting, you know, terribly deep. However, you know, it is going to be tough to manage this 7-year deal, 7 and a half plus AAV, and figuring out how to get the cap space for that because I know one thing that I floated around was that the Devils could look to move Curtis McDerman, and and that’s a little over a million dollars. The question is, does that little over a million dollars get you to the AAV that it’s going to take to get Luke Hughes under signed and under contract and under the cap? That’s the big question because if it’s not, then there’s a bigger move coming, which means a guy like Andre Palot, a guy like Ducky Hamilton is going to have to go. I know we’re, you know, I I’ve seen the comments, oh, you know, who’s going to take Pot, this that and the other thing. And again, I agree. I want him off the roster, but again, if I was another GM, you know, I I would be saying if another GM takes him, he probably should be fired. So, it’s just it’s a tough tough situation there. And Douggee is a whole different ballgame. Again, you know, if Douggee going, it better be bringing some impact on the way back plus the ability to sign Luke to his extension. But um if it’s not Curtis if Curtis McDermott’s trade is not enough to clear salary cap for New Jersey. So this is like again I’m not not saying Curtis McDerm it’s on the verge of being traded but what I’m saying is that’s the logical move to create this space. However, if the agreed upon contract when it does come down is going to be greater than what McDermott what a McDermott trade would give the Devils and salary cap relief, then we’re in a bigger we’re in a bigger spot. We’re in a bigger issue. Uh because that’s that’s just going to be tougher to deal with because then teams are going to know you have to dump Palot or Hamilton and at that point you never get good value back. So, um, it’s going to be interesting to continue to follow throughout this offseason. And again, we’re trying to bring you guys, you know, any little bit of piece of information we can get. Okay? And again, just, you know, this is not like we’re not talking numbers here, okay? This is me. This is what I think. I think if it’s a bridge deal, you’re probably the Devils probably have enough cap space to get them. They’re just under seven, something like that. Okay? But if he’s looking for this long-term deal, which is what’s being reported, it’s probably going to be seven and a half and up, which means they have to make a corresponding move. So, it’s just going to be interesting to follow and see what move they do actually make. Now, I did tease Nate Bastion in the open, and that’s because he officially has left the New Jersey Devils. He has signed a contract with the Dallas Stars. something that I think you know people have been looking you know looking for and since the offseason started it was kind of you know he’s he’s definitely on the list of guys you cannot bring back again much like you know I wouldn’t I I I wouldn’t go make a social media post about him but obviously the Devils did in a very nice gesture in a very nice way and you know you wish him the best of luck in Dallas but uh certainly was never you know the big time you know was was not the player we needed him to here in New Jersey and his defense was I if you look at the the numbers in the analytics was great but the problem was he just did nothing offensively. He could get the puck along the boards and play with it between his feet and that was about it and you know we watched that for you know too many years and again great guy human being but just time to move on for New Jersey. So, uh, he did I I I had no doubts the Devils weren’t bringing him back, but he did officially sign with Dallas yesterday. So, uh, just a little bit of a little nugget of info for you on that one. And again, we’ll keep you up to date as we get more Luke Hughes nuggets and and information and try to keep it going from there. So, again, I appreciate everybody that listens, that tunes in, however you’re consuming this content, we appreciate you, okay? We need your help to get to 1,000 subscribers by opening night. Help us out. Hit that subscribe button and leave us a comment. What do you think? Where is this? I’ll phrase it this way. When do you think Luke Hugh signs with New Jersey? When do you think? Give me a date. put it in the comments and let me know what you think on that end because it’s I I just wonder, you know, I don’t think either side really wants this leaking into to to camp and and into the regular season. So, I think it’s some point there’s going to be an urgency, but we can’t seem to find one. So, let me know what date you think Luke Hughes is going to sign with New Jersey. I don’t need a, you know, I don’t need like October 10th. Give me, you know, a month. to give me a time frame before training camp, before the regular season, something like that. Let me know what you think. And I appreciate you guys for listening, for tuning in to the channel, and uh we’ll catch you next time on Devil’s Digest.

  1. Kovacevic on LTIR gives them over 10 mil. No other moves needed for months. Unlikely Luke's contract is more than Jack's. A move of Hamilton or Palat would be for another top 6 forward
