A Loon is such an appropriate tattoo for a Leafs fan. Extending Robertson won't move the needle. Matthews will dissappear in the playoffs and the first round exit is inevitable.
Robertson+McMann +picks or prospects or Jarnkrok or Kampf for a legit top 6 forward!
I get where Robertson is coming from.
He scored 15 goals while essentially getting played as a 4th liner for the majority of the season. If he'd been given opportunities to actually play in a role suited for his skillset he would already have a pair of 20 goal seasons under his belt. Once the Leafs finally decide to let him play, or let him go to a team that's willing to let him play, the guy is gonna be worth at least double, if not triple that $2m he's asking for.
They need to graduate Robertson to the top 6 or trade him. He's not a bottom 6 guy he doesn't play defense or hit. He's this generation's Lonny Bohonas.

The Leafs are a top-heavy team, and that's a problem when you're a player like Robertson. He has an incredible shot, so he's a player you want to position as a scoring threat on your top lines. But the Leafs really have no one in their Top 6 that you would want to swap out in favor of Robertson. So that leaves him in the Bottom 6 and playing a role that just DOESN'T match his skill-set. He improved this last year, but his game just isn't defensively responsible enough to make him a reliable third or fourth liner. He's all offense.
Frankly, Robertson's ask is perfectly reasonable for any team BUT Toronto, and Toronto seemingly has no idea what to do with him. They clearly don't see him as valuable enough to pay anything more than 1.2 over, but the fact that he hasn't been traded yet would indicate that they see him as more valuable than any offers they may have received for him. The impression I get is that the Leafs don't want to sign him, but they also don't want to lose him for nothing.
I don't know what the right answer is. Robertson still has a lot of gaps in his game that need ironing out, but he's young and can score goals, which as these playoffs showed, the Leafs still desperately need. Honestly, I expect arbitration is going to be kinder to Nicky than the Leafs if it does go through. Far worse players have gotten far better contracts than what he's asking for.
Trade him for a bag of All Dressed chips… win win.
robertson is a goner anywhere between 1.2and1.5 mil he's tradeable over that and the leafs let him walk love to be a fly on the wall for this one leafs open with well they call him scratch and score for a reason
..how long can this Robertson B.S. continue..this is year 3 of Leafs and pundits discussing this undersized defensively challenged bottom sixer…Atlantic Division teams are moving past T.O. ..playoffs are not guaranteed and Robertson adds very little..MOVE ON..
Robertson played on the 3rd or 4th line and still scored 15 in 69 games. How many did Kampf, Jarnkrok, Holmberg, Domi or Lorentz get?

The part I can't understand is why people are against Robertson, who can actually score (including the only goal in the first 6-1 defeat to Florida).. Yet defend keeping Jarnkrok or Kampf..the guy deserves to be on the roster…

Ever watched Samberg? He's a young, stay at home, solid Dman. Something the Leafs do not have. Once again the Leafs are left with zero cap space…..one mediocre prospect…..no Draft capital for at least 2 years……and 11 bottom 6 forwards no one else wants.

What everyone's neglecting is that Marner's gone and they NEED the 'maybes' to be homeruns just so they can replace that offence…
They avoided arbitration and i think it was a 1 year deal 1.825m. Pretty stoked and i want to see him get at least 16 minutes a game this year. Rotate him into the top 6 for a few shifts.

Where is Myers in that roster? I think he’s more valuable than keeping Thrun to be honest especially being a RD. And they aren’t waiving Pezzetta…got rid of Reaves..they will keep a fighter with the team. Wait for injuries during camps. Someone will take Kampf and or Jarnkrok off our hands.
