  1. This is the point. Optical viewfinders look natural to your eyes, while looking through a typical electronic viewfinder gives the feeling that one is looking through a mini monitor; it is clearly a digital representation of the world. To me, OVFs are still the best, although they have the downside of not showing real-time exposure adjustments.

  2. PLEASE REDUCE YOUR MIC S NOISE GATE, its very hard to listen with headphones, cuts cutscuts. cutscutssss aoihdoaidj

  3. I bought the original Z6 since it appeared on marked and never regret. I decided to skip on Z6II simply because no real advantages. Finally, I'm the owner of Z6III. The 3 main reasons to get it were: improved auto-focus, shorten exposure which allows to shoot with F=1.4 in daylight, and 12-bit RAW video. However, for occasional shooters I recommend to keep Z6 I.

  4. I love my Z6ii. The ergonomics are just stellar. From the viewfinder to the nice LCD screen.
I would love to upgrade to the Z6iii, but what kills the deal for me is the flip tilt screen – it is just horrible and fiddling for photographers. I know nearly all manufacturers are doing that kind of screens in this price range, but I really hate them. They are just unpractical.

  5. Tempted to get the Z6 III as my first Nikon Z camera. Going for a Z8 as a hobbyist with two kids (ie budget is important), it seems like the more prudent play. About $1500 of savings seems worth it. Plus if in 5 years I want to get a Z8, nothing is stopping me.

Edit: Went for Z6ii instead. Quite a bit cheaper.

  6. If you use e-shutter at lower then 20fps, does it still feel like a black out free experience? As you mentioned a lot of people don't actually enjoy having so many frames, 12-14 was always my sweet spot.

  7. in other words, if you are an event photographer, working at night with iso around 1600 and beyond, then you wont see a difference in quality with your previous z6ii .

  8. Maybe we can talk about Nikon Z6 III openly in reviews?💤💦

    – The problem with using external monitors (any) – when stopping video recording – the HDMI signal disappears/reconnects – the image on the external monitor appears after 2-3 seconds.

    – The dynamic range is narrower – and in comparison with competitors' cameras that do not have RAW video – Nikon RAW gives only an advantage in changing the white balance, and neither RAW nor the giant bitrate nor 12 bits help to extract information from the shadows, and especially from the highlights.

    – 800 ISO native for Photo and other native ISO in it is not (specifically in photo mode) – i.e. there is no second signal pre-amplification, the matrix itself produces the maximum dynamic range at 800 ISO.

    – in video mode 2 basic ISO, but honestly basic 6400 ISO for N-RAW video in Nikon Z6 III looks worse than non-basic 6400 ISO in Sony A7 IV – and I'm talking about the same light in the frame, the same shutter speed and the same aperture. It turns out that a fresh 24 megapixel sensor is much noisier than a 33 megapixel sensor.

The only 2 pluses of Z6 III – rolling shutter is lower than on competitors' cameras (if you shoot sports in good lighting – then yes, maybe).

Autofocus works up to -10 stops of exposure (I don't know how Nikon calculated it and from what value they calculated minus 10 stops). In practice, autofocus works in such lighting – in which this sensor makes so much noise – that you will not shoot with it.

  9. Excellent! And thank you for not singing those hours-long hymns about autofocus… (like all others do)! But sadly, I hardly could find much information about connectivity flaws – Nikon changed the connector for accessories…

  10. Thank you. I was breaking and thinking about selling my Z6 while upgrading to Z6 III. Not going to now – I love this camera. It found its home.

  11. Thank you for this in-depth analysis of the Z6 lineup. It pushed over the top to buy the Z6iii for use with my Z S-line lenses, and my recent purchase of the Z 180-600 5.6/6.3 lens. I own and love the 6ii but I am hopeful that the 6iii will give me faster AF and "stickier" tracking for birding and sports photography. Also, I want to start videography for birding.

  12. I might go for a Z6ii cause of the secondary SD card which means I can still use my SD card for a while, though I will definitely have to get a CFE for video and high continuous shooting.

  13. I can't speak for the advantage of upgrading from the Z6ii, or any other mirrorless camera for that matter, but the Z6iii sure is a nice upgrade from my old Nikon D7200 APS-C camera!! It's just a shame that none of my old lenses will work with the lens adapter, and yes, I did try them. 😞

  14. Hey Matt, I hope this comment gets to you. I was wondering if you can look into a problem I've noticed happing with the EXPEED 7 chips. Apparently in low light conditions typical for event photographers during receptions and parties the Z6iii and apparently any camera with the EXPEED 7 chips are experiencing an issue with a laggy rear screen while auto focusing in AF-C at 200 shutter speed and below. I recently brought it up in a reddit post and it's getting a bit of traction with many users agreeing this is an issue they are experiencing across all camera bodies using the EXPEED 7 chips. I've tried a camera rest and multiple setting changes and nothing fixes the issue, it seems to be inherent in the chips themselves. I upgraded from z6ii's that never exhibited the issue like the new chips do. Here is a link to my post, I'd love to know if you test it and what you think might be happening and hopefully maybe we will be able to get a firmware update to fix the issue. Thanks so much, here is a link to the post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nikon/comments/1ltvgwf/nikon_z6iii_is_anyone_talking_about_this_screen/

  15. Thanks for the comparison!! I currently have a pair of 6's, and primarily shoot video. One problem I have had with the Z6, is overheating when shooting outdoors on hot days. Has any progress been made regarding overheating with the III's? Thanks!!

  16. Thank you so much. I am a theater and dance Photographer. I stillen work with my D850. Love the dynamic range. The 6ii I bougie two years ago. As back up and on my trips and Street. But the autofocus in darker Arenas is not so good. AND. I started to film , artisricly. And with the 6iii you can shoot film in low shutterspeed. You can when you shoot in 24 frame rate, go to a loper shutterspeed I haard and read. So probably I will switch to teh 6iii. Thank you so much.

  17. better sensor readout time is very important feature 🙂also for AF and silent photography 🙂
