You take the best deal possible… even if it means trading within the division. Besides it’s MacTavish a second line center. … I don’t think any team is afraid to play against him.
I don't want to see McTavish traded but Anaheim does have McQueen in the pipeline. He has massive potential as a future 2C or even 1C if he approaches his ceiling. IF Verbeek did let McTavish go the return better be massive and only help the Ducks now and later. As a Ducks fan, seeing that they are a little weak with high end young RD's, they could ask for Reinbacher (if his knee isn't an issue) and the Canadians 2026 first round pick unprotected as well as their 2027 second. If the return was that or something very similar I wouldn't be all that upset. A big price for the Canadians, but if they want him they will have to pay, pay, pay.

Habs fan here … McTavish would definitively be a nice acquisition but the big question is what would the Habs be willing to trade in exchange. It would make no sense to weaken a position (ie. right defenseman) in order to strenghten another one, there's also the salary cap situation and the Habs would need to shed some salary to fit McT under the cap.
On the other side, the Ducks GM is not stupid and he would rightfully want to be fairly compensated.
All of this is just summer speculation anyways … I'll believe it when I see it.

I guess I forgot that MTL could simply wait until Price's LTIR kicks in after the season starts but they would still be in trouble come next year knowing they also have to sign Matheson and Hutson so MTL management is operating recklessly within the cap.

The Ducks will get a fair return from someone. Hughes will deal from strength. Left D which Montreal has a surplus of, too many picks to keep and prospects in Laval. I'd do Matheson or even Guhle plus Kapanen plus a high pick in the 26 draft.

How do you know this hasn’t been handled correctly by the FO?! Do you have an inside “source”? For all we know, McTavish doesn’t want to be here and Verbeek is trying to maximize a trade package. Let’s not assume without the facts.
Why would the Ducks go out and acquire 2 centers like Kreider and Granlund? What does that say about McTavish? seems like the Ducks aren't expecting much from him…..Matheson and Anderson for Mc tavish would benefit both clubs
These summer trade rumors are BS most of the time. Last year it was Trevor Zegras and the year before it was Pierre-Luc Dubois. Someone in Montreal needs to create "news" to generate Clicks/Views during the off season.

But something has been "blocking" the trade of Price's last remaining year (the last thing Hughes wants is to be forced to use LTIR once again on it as it will carry aprox 8M under our cap ceiling for the 26-27 season if we do, amongst other issues for this upcoming 25-26 season).
By something "blocking" that cap dump (90%+ is paid by insurance btw, and it's for a single year only, so very very attractive for any team to reach the cap floor, and to get a free pick or 2 with it), what I mean is :
– Either SJ or CHI are asking too much (knowing how desperate we are);
OR (the least likely option by far but still possible)
– it's taking time b/c it will be part of a larger trade…
Your management is famous for taking its sweetass time to sign players, AND you HAVE players to sign, so the "on paper" cap space the Ducks have is completely different than SJ and CHI in actual reality…

In other words, if a trade happens, at least when it comes to the Habs, you guys will NEVER get equal value back.

I saw McTavish at the world juniors championship when he saved that crazy goal. That effort matches exactly what the culture is in Montreal currently
and I think Montreal will pick him up. I am really hoping that they do. He will fit in perfectly as a Hab.
