What do you expect from Matt Savoie and Ike Howard next season?
We had another question coming in from Eve. They ask, “How do you see Matthew Seavoy and Isaac Howard contributing to the Oilers lineup this season? Stan Bowman said he wanted to find youth at this point as he appears he has.” I think the expectations especially for Isaac Howard are very high by some fans this year. Obviously, some people saying he’s going to win the CER seems like a stretch. I think if those two guys can come in and at a minimum fill in the gaps left by Arbitson and Jeff Skinner in the goal scoring, which is around 30 goals, I think that’s great. One of them will probably play on the second line to start, one of them on the third line, and eventually move up. I think it’d be difficult for both of them to start the season in the top six. With that said, if Zack Kimman misses the start of the season, maybe that’s an opportunity for one of them to step up, maybe even a little bit of power play time. But very excited about the two players. Everything is a gamble. We still got younger. Hopefully the new goalie’s coach will work out. Skinner and Pickard are the most experience goalies in the Stanley cup final. They just need the right music 🎵.😅

Hopefully there are some journeyman try outs at training camp. It’s a huge gamble to assume these guys who haven’t cracked an NHL line up are good enough now – there is a reason they aren’t already in the NHL. If they outplay a journeyman, fine, but if not, no free lunch.
