I don't think that Quinn will get traded and I actually think he will leave money on the table to stay in Vancouver so they have money to build around him. That said, I'm not so worried about Quinn getting traded as I am about him getting traded for an underwhelming return. As a long term Canucks fan I have lost all confidence in whatever Management regime is there to do the right or smart thing.
Quinn has a huge bond with the boys here. Let's talk about this when he actually decides not to sign. The team has had a season full of distractions so let's talk about something positive.
Speculation that Quinn Hughes will join his brothers Jack and Luke on the roster of the Devils has so far but nothing more than that. Yet this coming season will be huge for the Canucks because that season is the penultimate one of QH‘s contract and because he could thus, as soon as next July, sign a new contract with the Canucks. A deep 2026 playoff run likely will convince QH to stay with Canucks for at least a couple seasons after his existing contract is over but a failure to see playoff action may very well prompt him to, following his existing contract, look to another NHL team that has made more consistent playoff appearances than the Canucks.
I think the narrative that Quinn will abandon Vancouver and sign in New Jersey started when Rutherford said Quinn wants to play with his brothers. The narrative in itself is very scary to even consider, however personally, I’m not worried at all. If I was in the NHL and had a brother in the NHL, of course I’d want to play with him! Who wouldn’t want to play with their brother? Also, Rutherford later clarified that Quinn never actually came to him directly to say that he wants to play with his brothers but that it’s just out there somewhere.
Another reason I think he will stay is that I believe he cares a lot about the Vancouver Canucks. Here’s are some examples:
– Commitment to being a Canuck (signed a long-term deal, 6 years, in 2021).
– Heartfelt end-of-season speech 2022-23 season (wasn’t captain yet): “It’s an honor to be a Canuck… It’s a treat playing for you guys.”
– Accepted the captaincy with humility (emphasized team not self) and responsibility (went from soft-spoken to vocal, elevated his game).
– Community engagement (BC Wildfire Relief visit & donation, honouring lifelong fans, Team 43, Sedin award)
– Sacrifice (played through injury).
Also, after accepting the captaincy, Hughes said: “It means a great deal to me to be named captain of the Canucks… it has been a pleasure and treat to play for this franchise and to be the captain is something that is incredibly special.”
I think there is more evidence that Quinn Hughes wants to be a Canuck than wants to leave.
I am 100 percent sure that Quinn Hughes stay with the canucks. NJ can't afford him anyway.
No true canuck fan is fully sane, so…, my paranoia is trying to convince me that the canuck "hating" hockey gods will try their best to correct their mistake of letting quinn make it to the canucks. down paranoia, down.
Miller had a 103 P in 82 games, Petey had a 102 P in 80 games + he was 7th in Selke voting, Petey's 102 points a season was with a non playoff team vs Miller's 103 point season was with a 1st place division team. If we look at contexts, Petey's season was better. It's a lot of harder to put up points on a bad team.
What makes Miller a playoff performer and not Petey? What do you look at?
I look at 4 things, 1. High career playoff points or a long stretch with a lot of points. 2. Have more than a few clutch goal or made a big play on an ot winner, late third period game winning goal or late tying goal with the goalie pulled. 3. Showed up for the big elimination games. These games are the hardest games to win and biggest games in a series. 4. Do not make bad defensive plays that resulted in a goals against.
1. Miller only has 12 G 44 A 56 P in 91 playoff games. He is a ppg with the Canucks however it is a really small sample size since Canucks don't usually make the playoffs. 2. Miller did have some clutch moments, no disagreement. 3. Canucks played on 4 elimination games in 2024, game 5, 6 vs Nash and Game 6 and 7 vs Edm. Miller 0 points in the biggest games. 4. Game 4 vs Edm, Bouchard scored the game winner with less than a min left because Miller was standing infront of Silvos instead taking the point man in Bouchard. Lindholm was the center for that shift, Miller's job as a winger during that shift is to take the point man which he didn't do. A Vet shouldn't be making rookie mistakes especially in the last min of a tied game.
1.5 out of 4 of my requirements so my opinion Miller is not a playoff performer. I'd love to hear your opinion. Thanks!
