Tage Thompson can win the Hart Trophy in 2026 for the Buffalo Sabres

Can Tage Thompson rise to MVP status and claim the Hart Trophy in 2025-26?

Once considered a long-term project, Thompson has evolved into one of the league’s most dynamic offensive forces. We explore his journey, assess his impact on the Buffalo Sabres, and ask whether individual brilliance is enough without deep team success. The conversation touches on his scoring consistency, power-play dominance, and how he stacks up against perennial MVP contenders like Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, and Nathan MacKinnon.

We also take a look at what the Hart Trophy truly represents — value to one’s team — and whether Thompson’s presence in Buffalo’s lineup meets that definition. Is he just putting up points, or is he driving results in a way that could sway voters?

With stats we break down whether Tage Thompson’s star power is peaking at just the right time.

  1. It's going to take a T. Hall like season with the devils. 50+ goals – 100 + points and definitely a playoff team and maybe 3rd in the Atlantic

  2. I think it's 100% more important this upcoming season if Lindy instead won the Jack Adams than if a Sabre won the Hart

  3. Wouldn't you have to be the MVP of your own team? Dahlin being a Norris candidate would be a much less nutty take.

  4. Power/Byrum + Norris for Edvinsson + Kane. Futures for Weegar… Oh yeah, and get Helleson.. 4 the Emperor 👍 🏒

  5. They should consider changing the criteria of determining the league MVP for a season to level the playing ground between defensemen and forwards fasho.

  6. Are you sure about Levi’s contract being a Two Way? I read the other day that it was “Confirmed” to be a One Way.

  7. If the Sabres are going to have anything close to the line they had when Tage had 47 and 47, I’d say to move Tuch up to the top line again and have
    Tage-Norris-Tuch together.

If Norris is healthy, he’s pretty lights out. Tuch, well his play speaks for itself. As far as Tage, he’s a right handed shot. He could easily put up Ovechkin numbers if they’d stop being afraid to put him on Left Wing! You can’t onetime on your proper wing the way he needs to! He needs to be on his off wing and have the puck fed repeatedly into his wheelhouse!

  8. I don’t know what happened to you Sneaky Joe, but your last two shows I couldn’t disagree with you more. Saying Power had a good year last year now Tage for Hart when this is a team built more to compete for McKenna than for the playoffs earlier. This team has 3 top 6 forwards total. It has 10 low end 3rd or 4th liners. They will be eliminated earlier than ever.

  9. Not with mcdavid dropping 150 point seasons bringing his team to the Stanley cup finals

  10. You missed the biggest reason why the Sabres suck and the Bills don't. Terry doesn't know football and let's BB do his thing. Terry THINKS he knows hockey and is heavily involved. It's really that simple.
