  1. And Calgary. I could see them getting in. I think STL will finish with roughly the same record as last year but i think Utah and possibly Calgary over takes them

  2. The Blues had the honor of being the cursed team in the playoffs this year, meaning whichever team beat them (this year, the Jets) would lose in the next round and pass the curse on. In all seriousness though, they have a ton of young depth and are set up to make a run at some point in the next 3 years. Hopefully they stay healthy and Steen replaces Army admirably.

  3. Great video review of the Blues—However, there's no way Nathan Walker isn't ahead of Joseph on the depth chart–I see Joseph and Sundqvist being replaced at some point in the season by Dvorsky and one of the other prospects. The Blues should contend for a playoff spot, but, it's going to be tough because the Central division is so stacked with talent.

  4. I was surprised to look over the Blues defense in spite of losing Pieterangelo years ago their defense is pretty good.I did not like that dude they picked up from Boston a few years back I thought he was over rated but right now they look good. This is why I said I feel sorry for Mailloux he is going to have a tough time cracking that lineup.I also don't get the Bolduc trade St.Louis could use players like that so trading him to get a D man seems very odd.
Someone commented on Joseph I was surprised seeing him in the SISU league last year he is a VERY good player skates great can handle the puck and has an eye for the net. However this year in the SISU he has been struggling but imo it is his line mates which is what I always thought held him back from producing more.We saw it with Bolduc last year give him some real players and he produced.
That i the thing with the NHL your only as good as the opportunity your given some players are over hyped becuase they are riding the coat tails of others..ahem ..Slafkovsky ..cough plug.

  5. Nathan Walker will play much more than Joseph. In fact, I don’t think Joseph is on the Blues roster by opening night. Also might see Faulk leave.

  6. I am not a Kyrou fan I look beyond the numbers and think of playoff hockey becuase that is what matters.Sure regular season numbers get you paid but that doesn't win cups.So can they pay Kyrou to be a second line player I highly doubt it and just like my habs I said with that first line they will NEVER win a cup.If people remember St.Louis's cup they picked up a stud center another gift from the incompetent Sabers management.Sabers management has been gifting others teams players to win the cup.
They also had very under rated defense that was a really good group they made Binnington's job MUCH easier. That is why I like St.louis right now a good solid D core they just need more help up front .

  7. No offense to Blues fans, but I don't see any possible way they're going to be Top 3. If Colorado, Dallas, and Minnesota are all healthy for most of the season, it simply won't happen. The Blues'll be struggling with Winnipeg and the Pacific for the up-to-two wildcard spots the Central would have remaining.

  8. I know you have your teams, as an STL native I do truly value your coverage of mine. Its nice to have an well maybe not unbiased opinion, but one thats not near our market. Im pretty excited for the team this year. We didnt sell the farm, and we seemed to shore up some weaknesses. On top of our honestly wildly underrated young guys who are soon to make an appearance. Whats wild to me is how well Snugg did during the playoffs. This kid with a full season under his belt? ooooofaaa … hype train intensifies.

  9. Please stop using puck pedia for line combos, they always seem off and as a Blues fan I can guarantee these are wrong. Walker definitely on 4th line and Joseph in press box. Also it’s hard to see Sunny on that 3rd line. Either Bjugstad will be there and Sunny 4C or Dvorsky makes the team and plays there. Only way Sunny is there is as a platoon with Dvorsky

  10. IM A BLUES FAN AND IM WORRIED ABOUT HOW EVERYONE JUST ASSUMES SNUGGERUD WILL BE A TOP LINE PLAYER YES HE LOOKED GOOD BUT THAT WAS FOR A LIMITED SAMPLE TIME ALSO A LOT OF PLAYERS HAD CARRERE YEARS LAST YEAR HALLOWAY BROBERG THOMAS . THER ARE ALSO A KOT OF PLAYERS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF 30. THE WEST WILL BE A LOT BETTER THIS YEAR AND I THINK THE BLUES WILL ACTUALLY TAKE A STEP BACK AND MISS THE PLAYOFFS. ALSO GREAT WORK HOCKEY GUY AND THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO.

  11. I don't put much stock in any podcast that barely acknowledges the Blues should have beat the Jets except for defensive breakdown at end of game. Same result of too many games during the year.

  12. Kyrou improved his game defensively last year imo opinion and was fine on that side of the puck. I honestly don't think he gets moved anytime soon. I still see them as a wildcard team this year but they could surprise me. One thing I don't think gets mentioned enough is how good at stick handling and passing our goaltenders are. I've watched them both and as good as Binny is I think Hofer might be just a bit better in the stickhandling/passing department.

I was surprised also that you had Snuggarud on the top line.

It feels like it's been forever since I've gotten to watch a game so I'm looking forward to the start of the season. Thanks for your review THG

  13. Tex should be in 3rd line instead of Sunny. Both Neighbours and Suter isn't great skaters and they're quite low, Tex would be the balancer since he's got some speed. Also he's a capable passer and can read plays well and have shown he's got some creativity offensively while Sunny is just… not… The biggest problem with Tex last year was his compete and consistency was abysmal but he did showed up in the playoffs and play well in the three games that he was picked over Joseph. If he can continue with that level of compete then he'd be a better option over Sunny or Joseph.

  14. The Blues are my team but in my opinion they went the wrong way this off season. First, no one knows if Halloway way be the same player after surgery (I hope so). Second, the next player they had that played like him (Bulduc) they traded. They picked up an even older, slower center (35 years old) that has been injury prone his entire career and doesn't win many fave offs. The other center they picked up is small and also not great on face offs and you still have Sunquist, who also old and very slow and also not good on face offs. Joesph is fast but can't score, a 4th line guy at best. The coaching staff does not trust Texier, so he does nothing for the team either. The New defenseman looks great on paper and I hope he helps but he is unproven. Snuggerud is very skilled but plays soft, not like Bulduc who went hard into the corners and hit people and is also not yet proven. They also are unwilling to give Dvborski a real shot at making the team. They got rid of the two old defensemen that hurt them in the playoffs but think having two big slow centers we get them over the hump? And Shein isn't very fast either and is probably a 3rd center at best on any other team in the NHL. I sure hope they prove me wrong. The way they ended the season, losing with a two goal lead was pathetic. They played that last 4 minutes like they were behind, really sad.

  15. Nathan Walker is the 4th line wing. One of Joseph or Texier will not be on the team and the other in the pressbox til injury or shakeup. Carbonneau will be the 3rd line wing. book it. Dvorsky the favored but this Carbonneau kid is going to shock the hockey world this year and make it straight from the draft.

  16. Love the youth of the talented core players. What I don't love is how they finish. Monty and the coaches need to emphasize playing tenacious and smart when they have their usual 1 or 2 goal lead late. Giving up the lead late playing defense on 6 on 5 last year happened way to often. If they weren't last in the league they were close. Work on that and the other special teams and this team will score 100 pts plus. Looking for Tommer to have his first 100 pt season too. He's going to shine even brighter with a full year of Monty coaching.

  17. I wouldn't be upset to see Kyrou moved. I'm not overly excited about some moves that have been made. I'm beyond pumped about seeing what Snuggy can do. I have full confidence in Doug; this season is going to be amazing. We need to pay Binner more.

  18. I don’t believe kyrou gets traded but i do see buchnevich leaving after this year to help with some cap issues and resigning holloway as his replacement and i see faulk leaving after this next season aswell with broberg taking his place.

  19. The Blues on paper should be a top three team in the central division and a top five team in the Western conference. However, this team habitually gets off to a slow start and plays inconsistently when not pushed. Simply put there are some players on this roster that take nights off.

They legitimately have one of the best goaltenders in the league and maybe the best goaltender in the Western Conference. If JB 50 does not win another Stanley Cup in his career with the St. Louis Blues I will consider the organization to have failed him.

I would like to say the Blues finish third if not fourth in the Central division securing a playoff spot. The increase in competition from the Pacific division is the concern for me.

If St. Louis doesn’t finish top three in the central division, they will not secure a playoff spot in 2025–26.

  20. Walker plays over Sunny! Sunny is a big body but since his surgeries the past couple season has gotten tremendously slower! Walker is the guy you want in there, Team 1st guy, hits everything in site, sandpaper, not afraid to drop the gloves with anyone and has a little skill to add also!!

  21. my expected changes to those lines is I think that they will try Dvorsky in Sundqvist's spot and he will drop down to the fourth line and exchange games with Walker on the fourth line right side. Sunny can play a lot of places in the line up and will be plugging injury holes all season.

Could also see them putting Suter on the second line so that Schenn can be a mentor to Dvorsky, but it will all depend on chemistry in camp. Buchnevich did an interview in Russian and he talked about them having "pairs of forwards" that they try to keep together, and not trios. I think Thomas/Buch and Kyrou/Holloway are clear pairs they want to keep, but I could also see them shifting to Thomas/Snuggy as a pair as well

  22. There is a huge shortage of hard skaters willing to hound puck carriers and cause turnovers besides Walker and Torps. There's just too much coasting and not enough intensity in the team. No consistency with defensive positioning and they've been plagued by defensive turnovers for years. Basic hockey skills vanish inexplicably. Not a serious contender imo.
