Who Replaces Don and Cam? | Boston Bruins Mailbag Video

I asked my Discord to drop some questions because I’m on vacation and I wanted to at least give you something while I’m away and I figured without knowing what the news is, why don’t I ask my Discord? Now, I will also leave a link to my Discord in the description down below. If you ever want to join the Discord or just drop in and say hi. So, I pose the question out to everybody in the Discord to say, “Hey, I’m going on vacation. Drop you some questions down below.” And I want to start off by saying thank you to all of you who take the time this year to watch my videos. Um, it truly means a lot. So, I hope you enjoy this just a little quick video that I put together from questions from the Discord. Buckle up, Bruins fans. I’m here to give you the latest info on your beloved Boston Bruins. If you’ve been liking my Bruins content, please leave me a like and subscribe. If you’ve already done so, thank you. And let’s get into it. He scores. As I said before, this is just a mailbag kind of thing. I last time I did one of these, I asked everybody on the YouTube channel. This time, I thought it would be nice to, you know, ask the people on my Discord. We we talk on a daily basis about the Boston Bruins, about life, about a lot of things. So again, if you want to join our Discord, I’ll leave the description down below. And let’s get to the questions. Don’t worry, not going to be a long one. And as always with these questions ones, I don’t look at the questions. I just go off the top of my head. So I want to start off by saying a ton of you in the Discord just pretty much said, “Nice. have a nice vacation and I truly appreciate it, but believe it or not, I kind of wanted to talk some ruins with people. So, let’s start with the first one. Blue Fin Studios asks, I know this is all speculation, but number one, if we move on from President Cam Neely, who who replaces him? It’s a great question. Now, I don’t think he’s being fired anytime soon, but I do think the presence of Zedo Charara on draft day, on trade deadline day, a lot within the Bruins organization, if you watch Behind the Bee, he’s on it a ton. He’s not really talking about much. He’s not really doing much, but if you also look at the Bruins social media, they go out of their way to talk about Zadana Char, if he’s doing a race or doing all these other extracurricular things. I think personally Zadochar is being groomed for the president’s job with the Boston Bruins. I know that he is got close ties with the Jacobs families just like Cam Neely, but you know, Cam Neely is getting up there in years. And I do think especially in this type of industry, everybody has an expiry date. Cam Neely has been here through a long time. You know, he was here when they won the Stanley Cup in 2011. But I do think personally that the game has kind of passed him by just a smidge. um his brand of, you know, tough hockey, it’s just it’s there, but it’s really not there anymore. I wouldn’t consider the Florida Panthers a team that’s going to go out there and fight you, but I would consider them a tough team to play against, and I think there’s a big difference there. I think the 2011 Bruins were a tough team to play against. Having a team that can go out there and just punch people in the face, I just don’t think it works. He’s been essentially looking for a power forward for years. We had, you know, David Bakus, we had Matt Bleski, we had the the Reichi brothers. It just hasn’t worked for Jimmy Hayes, I remember when they brought him in. There was all these guys that they keep bringing in to fit this mold that they’re looking for. And now Tanner Jano, that I think they should just develop those type of players. And I think Cam and Dawn have done a good job. I I hate to say it, as much as they frustrate me sometimes, they have done a good job. You know, the team has very been successful. Yes, they’ve only won one cup, but unfortunately there’s not many teams out there that win multiple cups. Yes, the Florida Panthers just won two and the Tampa Bay Lightning won two, but I do look at the Bruins. I really think they got screwed in 2019 and you know, it’s just it is what it is. But they’ve had a lot of success here. But if I’m saying who replaces him right now, my guess would be Zedo Charara. And then an outside chance would be Thornton over in Florida. He’s done a phenomenal job at the front office there and I just think he’s the prime candidate. If we were to move on from Don Sweeney, who would be a good GM candidate? That that’s a tough one. I I look at the Boston Bruins organization and I look how how they always choose a former player. Let’s be real here. Um besides Peter Sharelli, they pretty much always have somebody and well, Harry S was there for years, but they have someone that’s I guess close to the organization, maybe not a former player. So, who they going to have for GM? That’s a tough one. Could that be the Zado Char? really think with Char’s business acu um acum president’s role is more for him let alone GM. I think if they’re going to be having a new GM that’s when you do have a new president and that president’s going to hire the GM and let’s put it this way if it’s Thornton he’d probably bring someone in from the Florida Panthers an organization because that’s what he knows. So I would look at that organization of a possible GM there. Whoever the assistant GM is, so on and so forth. If it is Zadochara, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a former player for the Boston Bruins from the from the years of Charara playing or um you know Kalinan or or some a European just because of his is where he comes from um and and brings new life in. But I would expect Charara to do a grueling process on who he would hire as the GM. I I would expect him to do because he wouldn’t want to screw this up. That’s if he’s the president. Um he would uh have a pretty long process here and they would be hiring a lot of candidates. I going through a lot of candidates. My apologies. I honestly at the top of my head though I I couldn’t really think right now. U there’s nothing that like comes to mind. A lot of these times with like coaching candidates, it’s it’s a lot easier because you can go first take the list of all the people that have been fired. But GM candidates, you’d have to go look at teams that have done a very good job building their their team because that’s what usually happens. You’ll you’ll have LA who got everybody taken from them. You got Dallas right now who you know a lot of people look at that franchise. They’ve done a phenomenal job drafting. So you look at who’s helped them get there. But I would think they also have a internal candidate in Evan Gold. Um he’s done a phenomenal job with regards to the cap and and maybe he deserves a shot at being the GM of this team. He he makes a lot more decisions than people think. Are we happy as a fan base? Do we call a season a success with a good regular season play? Okay, so I I’m I’ve mentioned this before that I think you know Cam and Don, they’ve done a decent job. We’ve had a lot of success here in Boston. The team is one of the most successful franchises over the last 10 years with points-wise in the regular season. They’ve made the playoffs every year except 2016 and last year. Like that’s it’s it’s pretty good. Like unfortunately the the state of Boston has been spoiled I guess you say like you know you have the Red Sox, you have the Patriots, you have the Bruins, you have and the Celtics. You have teams that are extremely successful in this city with the Bruins the way they are set up now. I still think that they’re a wild card team at best. I I don’t expect them to be a playoff team, but anything can happen. They could hit lightning in a bottle. you know, pasta is going to probably get you, you know, 90 to 100 points, but you know, Morgan Geeky could repeat what he did last year. And you could have Elias Lynholm getting maybe 60 points. You know, it could be and you could have some young players like Lysel or Potra that come out of nowhere or Blumel or any of these guys that the Bruins picked up in the offseason that could do something that we didn’t expect. You could have Casey Middlestat play above that what the expectations we have. We could have James Hagens coming in at the end of the year possibly filling into a role if the Bruins are close to a playoff spot making the playoffs and making some noise. But I think for me happy would be the Bruins showing progress, showing that, you know, the players that they have in the farm system are getting a chance. I was very frustrated watching this team last year because I thought when guys came up like Mulov and even Potra making the team being sent back down, didn’t really think they got a fair shake. I know a lot of people are like, “Well, at least they played.” But a guy like Merculov is a top six player and the Bruins bring him up and put him in a middle six role and a bottom six role. What’s the point? What’s the point of calling him up? At least give these guys the sinker swim. And with the team not being that good, my hope is we get to see that. And my hope is we get to see a different play under Marco Stern. We my guess is we’re going to see a more defensive style than we saw under Sacko and we saw under Montgomery. probably a little bit closer defensive style to Claude Julian from back in the day, but I do think Marco Sturm is a huge shot generation guy. He wants to get shot shot shots, which is will be similar to Bruce Cassie. I’m I’m just trying to give people similarities of the styles we’re going to see uh with Marco Stern because I do think he’s going to bring his own flare to the position. But as long as the team’s competitive and we’re not getting blown out, you know, 6-1 and all that kind of stuff, as long as they’re trying, I I I think I’m happy with it. They they can lose a game 3-1. I’m okay with that. Like I said, my expectations going into the season, they’re pretty low. Are we calling the season a success if we make one round of the playoffs? I’d be shocked if they make it to the first round or even if they get to the playoffs, get out of the first round of the playoffs. I look at that Atlantic division. So, say the Bruins make the playoffs and they’re a wild card team. They’re most likely playing the Florida Panthers, the Tempe Lightning, or the Toronto Maps. I don’t know, man. Those teams are good. Toronto has very good defense and good goalending. Their their forward group moves and losing Marner is a huge loss to them. But that Florida Panthers team, they’re a monster, a monster to end in the playoffs. They’re they’re just built built built to win hockey games. And I would never ever count out Tampa. They still have Aselleski. They still have Headman. I’d be shocked if the Bruins make one round of the playoffs. In fact, the draft’s so good next year. I just want them to be competitive. What if any moves does this team need to make before the start of the season? They need scoring. I don’t think they addressed it this offseason and I don’t know how they’re going to address that. I I I truly don’t. Um, yes, they got Steves and Blume who led the AHL and were in the top in the AHL in scoring. That doesn’t necessarily mean that’s going to translate to the NHL. Um, and it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to get a chance. We know that, you know, it it pretty much you got six guys aiming for this one right right-wing spot like or left wing spot, wherever they’re going to put him up in that top lineup. And then I look on the back end. They need some more help on that back end. That that defense, it ain’t that good. Like, oh, let’s just pull it up here. The Boston Bruins this off seasonason, I’ve said this a million times, needed help on the right side. On the left side, you have Lynholm, Zidorov, Loai. That’s fine. As much as people want to harp on Lorai, I think Lorai is a good defenseman for what he brings to the table. He’s not going to bring you defensive defenseman. He is an offensive defenseman. That’s his job. But if you look at that right side, it’s hurting after Makavoy who gets injured a lot. It’s Yuki Hyro and Peak. Peak is a good bottom pair defenseman. I have zero issue with it, but I think they need an upgrade on that right side. And hopefully they be able to pull that off by trade. Like I I look at their depth at center and it’s interesting after you know Kerchi and Bersron left it was like oh my god, we’re screwed. I’m not saying Lynholm is a starting center by any means, but if Hagens can be who we all hope he can be, and you know, he looked great in that um world championship in Minnesota just recently. He looked phenomenal. I I he’s 100% going back to Boston College. He’s going to have a great year, but we’re going to get him at the end of the year. I would think the Bruins want him in that top six, and eventually they want him either to be year 1 C or year two seed in the future. This is not next year or even the year after, but that g makes a guy like Casey Middlestat expendable because I do think Fraser Mitten and Matthew Potra are the future down the middle for the Boston Bruins as well. Um, and Shan Carali is just your your stop gap that you put in on that that line. And then you can always throw Beecher or or Castle. Probably Castelick. I would think that that bottom bottom line rotates between Carali and Castile and you’re putting Beecher in when you’re playing a very um defensive heavy game when you’ve decided that you’re just going to play defense pretty much against the team and just hope you win. I think that’s when Beecher will see games. As much as everybody gets frustrated with him, his defensive play is is good. He is good off the puck. He’s very good at the draws as well. So, I look at someone like Casey Middlestat that can possibly they can move to get help on that right side in the future. I I don’t see the Bruins addressing any of these needs leading up. It It was interesting. I’ve I’ve heard it all over podcast. Everybody kept talking about this was the summer of trades. And I found it very interesting that we really haven’t seen any. We have a lot of teams that are up to the cap and need to make moves and there’s a lot of big players being their names being floated around like Jason Robinson, but you’re still not seeing these trades come to fruition. And I go back to the draft. You had some GMs off the record say to Elliot Freeman that this draft, yes, saved them a lot of money, but it was hard to make deals because a lot of times they’re so used to talking to each other face to face. I I’m very shocked right now is like the dead zone. Uh while I’m even doing this, while I’m even on vacation, while I’m doing this video, there’s not a lot going on around the NHL. Players, Stanley Cup guys are doing their cup thing and players are just going back on the ice. I think in August if there’s going to be any deals, it’s going to be up to leading up to the camp. But I I don’t see much happening. I think what you’re going to see is they’re going to go into camp. They’re going to see what they have and they’re going to go from there. I just I don’t know what is available out there that the Bruins could get. I look at the right side of the right wing slot after Passnak and you got Arvdson, Blumel, Eimont. It’s pretty weak on that right side because I do think a guy like Matthew Potra could possibly play there, Fabian Lysel could possibly play there. But you need someone to step up on that right side because I do think if the Boston Bruins do not make the playoffs, Victor Arvdson is hopefully someone that can get them 15 goals. That’s the hope. And then you can move him at the deadline and get like a second or a third round pick for him. But he’s a UFA at the end of the year. I don’t think there’s any inclination in the Boston Bruins that he is going to be a full-time Boston Bruin and be here for a long time. I think they brought him in knowing that if they don’t make the playoffs, they can move him. And then I think the same with Casey Milstat. Um I’m hoping for the best. I remember watching him when he first started in Buffalo and I was like, “Oh, he can be a good hockey player.” I think he’s got good vision. Uh he he’s smart with the puck. Maybe he just needs the confidence. You know, he went to Colorado and he started playing great when he first got there, but then that started to taper off. And supposedly there’s some things going on in Colorado. supposedly some players don’t like the fact that Nathan McKinnon is, you know, runs a pretty tight ship there. I don’t see an issue with what he does and what some of the guys are complaining about, but a guy like Casey Middlestack could be a trade ship. It’s it’s it’s interesting. You look at the second line right now as it is. It’s Pavl Zaka, Casey Middlestat, and Victor Arvinson. I know I did a video about Zaka. I again, I’m going to reiterate, I don’t think he trades Zaka. One, friends with Pastor Knack. Two, I know that shouldn’t matter, but two, he’s so dependable. Why get rid of a guy that is that dependable? So I would think your trade chips in your forward group or Middlestat Arbitson and then you go from there because you don’t have much in the cupboard, but you need to get help on the right side if none of these guys that they signed work out either up in the forward group or you need it up on your defensive pair. Like that’s where I think the Boston Bruins need the most help. I’m not expecting any of all these answered. I hope I did. Just some thoughts for the videos going forward. Offseason is the time for speculation and whatifs. Once we get into the preseason, it’s more reality based and it’s time to focus on the actual team roster/providence death. Enjoy vacation. And by the way, I’ll survive a week if you prefer to focus on family and vacation. Honestly, Blue Fin, I I just again, I just love doing these. Um I’m I’m debating and let me know in the comments here. I’m debating to not answer everybody’s question or at least I go out of my way to answer everybody in the comment section. I try and at least acknowledge your comment because if you’re taking the time to leave a comment, I should take the time to acknowledge that comment, at least have a conversation with you about it or, you know, at least like it. I I just think it’s fair. Um, you’re taking the time to watch my video and I should take the time to respect you and and answer your questions. I’m debating whether to in this regular season on my Friday videos coming up into the season or in my videos the the next day the video. If you have a question that pertains to the video that I just had and it involves a longer answer than just a yes or no or that’s a good opinion I think and again let me know in the comments down below. Would you be okay if I answer it in the next video? I literally highlight you asking that question and I answer it in the next video. Let me know in the comments. Um, and I think I got one more question here from the because like I said, almost everyone that I’m looking through here on my Discord is telling me just to have a nice vacation. Morales Miles, love the name because I big fan of Spider-Man over here. Take if the Bruins also make it to the playoffs next year, are they really retooling or a soft reset? if they’re not rushing to take this year to be the draft and snag another high-end talent. What Blue Fin Studio said, “My thoughts question are also one and two, enjoy your vacation.” So, I answered those. I do think the Bruins believe that they are retooling and not rebuilding. Everything I think they did over this offseason in bringing all these guys in the bottom six is to make the team competitive. Not good, but competitive. They want to be able to put a team on the ice that we watch and say, “Well, at least they tried.” They are banking on Lynholm and Makavoy being healthy for the year. Um because I I can’t under I can’t understate how huge that was for the team last year. Losing Lynholm and Makavoy gutted this team. They had nothing to help them in the back end. You had Mason Lorai who was an offensive defenseman getting a ton of ice time. You had Nikita Zadorov skating around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to kill everything out there. I think with Makavoy and Lynholm back there on the back end, you’re going to have stability. The Bruins will be harder to play against. I’m not saying they’re going to win a lot of games, but they will be harder to play against. You know, having a bunch of bottom six guys just makes the team very grindy. You still have David Pastnak. You still have Morgan Geeki. You still have Pavlzaka. You still have Elias Lynholm. You have a team led by the engine that is David David Pasternac that can score goals and they’re going to be successful. I just look at the Atlantic division and you’ve got Tampa, you got Florida, you got Toronto and you have the Montreal Canadians. I I’ve been saying this for a while. I think the Montreal Canadians are going to be one heck of a team next year. You look at that roster from front to back and it’s it is envious of a young franchise that’s about to take that next step. So, I think the Boston Bruins, if they have a chance to make the playoffs next year, it’s because Tampa falters or a team has a ton of injuries because I do think I’m I’m done saying Detroit and watch them do something, but I do think the Montreal Canadiens are going to be better. I think the Ottawa Senators are going to be better. I think the Florida Panthers are going to be phenomenal. And I think the Toronto May Leafs aren’t going to be bad. Yes, they’ve lost Mner, but I think they have goalending and they have defense and they have guys up on the front like Knander and Matthews who likes to score goals that they can help you win hockey games. But I think Tampa is that wild card. They’re older just like the Boston Bruins were and they’re at the downward trajectory of their team and all like but then again they could be the what the 2023 Bruins who set the record because the Bruins were a really old team. the Tampa Bay Lightning could come out of nowhere if Vasilaski and that’s the wild card because he’s been injured a lot lately. If he has a healthy season, the Tampa Bay Lightning are crazy good. Like they’re they’re good and I know I’m saying veterans, but the Bruins technically the Boston Bruins are a young team. But we’ll see. I I think the Bruins have a lot in front of them that’s going to hinder them from making the playoffs, but it’s not a bad thing. I’m not saying play and tank for McKenna. I I never believe and I truly believe it’s very hard to make a player tank. They’re going to give their all. Whether you think they do or not, it reminds me a lot of Tukaras. Everybody used to say doesn’t try. It’s just because he was I’ve talked to many of his former coaches. They’ll say it’s just he was that good. He was so good at his positioning. It looked like he wasn’t trying. But I think the Bruins are going to be competitive this year, but we’re going to know who they are by the end of November. So, we’ll watch October, November. And if you remember last year when I was doing my videos, I was calling for Montgomery to be fired in November. Um, you could see it if you, we all watch hockey. Everybody watching this video, you watch hockey. You can see it. You can tell when teams are closer to the end than they are to the beginning. So, with the Boston Bruins right now, yes, I think they are retooling, but if they come out of the gate and say they’re the worst team in the NHL by the end of November, the rebuild’s on and they’re going to they’re going to see if they can move players because I don’t see how a guy like Macka Boy or Pastor Nak going to want to stick around on a team that’s going to be that bad for that long. But, I think there was a light at the end of the tunnel. They did great at the draft this year. And that doesn’t mean these players are going to be around right away, but I think a guy like Hagens, we’re going to see him at the end of the year. And I hope and I truly hope he has a phenomenal year at BC. He plays great at the World Junior Championship. And you know, we’re going to have a bunch of players on this Bruins roster that are going to play for their country this year, and we’ve seen what that’s happened in previous seasons with an Olympics. These guys come back and they’re gang busters. So, we’ll see. Again, thank you. Thank you to all of you in this past year. I I truly appreciate all of you watching the videos. Um, thank you to everybody in the Discord that took the time to say some great things about enjoying my vacation. I truly appreciate it and and trust me, let me know in the comments. I I enjoy talking to you everybody in the comments and regardless whether I agree with you or not, if you notice, I still talk to you. I It doesn’t bother me. Heck, I’ve got a guy in my comments that he puts more comments than any of you and all he does on a regular basis is tell me how terrible I am. Totally fine. He can say whatever he wants. I’m okay with it. I’m not going to push anybody away. I just want to I’m just here to talk hockey. And am I right all the time? 100% incorrect. There’s no one that’s right all the time. Maybe Dom, maybe Michalagio. They’re kind of right a lot. So, if you follow those guys, you’ll see. But I want to thank you all. Um, and again, if you want to ask me questions, hop into our Discord and let me know about the whole comments thing. If you want me to answer those questions in the next video, let me know.
