Nashville Unlikely to Move Towards the Playoffs in 2026

The Preds had a pretty rough season, and have not been aggressive this off season, so they’re likely to stay near the bottom of the West for another year.

  1. If everyone that had down years last season get back to their average PPG per season and Barron plays like he did when he scored 7 goals in barely 40 games with the Habs when Montreal was switching dmen at mid-season due to their (on purpose) talented dmen glut that would become excellent money exchange once they settled on the ones they wanted, Barron didn't make it because Hutson stole his job as an offensive young dman and there wasn't much place for him anymore last season. I see Evangelista getting back on to his ever-climbing curve of success until that wall that was hit last season. Whatever it was (I think Josi and Saros playing when injured is a big factor why they were so awful defensively and giving away so many goals and the stabilizing effects of Hague and Perbix who are great defensive dmen who know how to win, it should have Skjel be as solid defensively as he always was before last season.

That's a bunch of ifs, but, I look at the lineup and to me they have to be able to do better than this, easily, realistically they could be a team that would be in the chase for the wildcard spots if all goes well, if that is what they want, but the many cup winners in the team might be new in the team, they surely know what it takes to win and have some pride that can boost the morale of the team in a way that can't be bought. Not particularly a fan, except when Subban was there, almost wanted my second favorite team (PIT) to lose, almost.

  2. Love you Shannon but you got our entire lineup wrong. Our lineup will be more like this

    Forsberg-O’Reilly-Marchessault
    Stamkos-Svechkov-Bunting/Evangelista
(This spot is up for grabs at training camp)-Haula-Bunting/Evangelista
    Smith-McCarron-L’Heureux

Kemell, Ozzy Weisblatt, Wood, Schaefer, & even L’Heureux all with chances to fill in that 3rd line spot.
Management has said many times this off season that they do not want Stamkos playing centre this year so I would very surprised if they started the year with him at centre.

    Josi-Hague
    Skjei-Perbix
    Wilsby-Barron

Blankenburg & Oesterle are probably our extra D even though I think Barron should be shot into the sun and Blankenburg should play regular minutes cause he is a million times better but Trotz has said size is something he wanted to get so that’s not gunna happen. Molendyk will definitely get games this year but he will probably play most of the year in Milwaukee unless Brunette can convince Trotz cause I heard Brunette loves Molendyk a ton.

  3. They are between a rock and a hard place. They have a lot of aging players on big contracts. Trotz has his work cut out for him.

  4. I don’t get the opening from the viewpoint this team went ALL IN last summer with three big UFA acquisitions (2 F & 1 Dmen). Trotz didn’t take this job to retool and rebuild. If those words aren’t acceptable for Vancouver team … I don’t see how Nashville can be any different

  5. As a preds fan, Cole smith is a 4th liner at best. He’s only good on the PK. Can’t score goals, can’t play PP, his 5 on 5, is mid at best. I guess we’ve gotta have a guy like that but I’d rather have 35 year old Matt Martin than Cole smith

  6. I can see Nashville making suprisingly to playoffs. They have good core. Elite winger Forsberg, elite goalie Saros, Elite/franchise defenceman Josi, all of these players at their prime. + Stamkos + good young players. All they need is nro 1 center.

Marco Rossi could have potential in Nashville? 😏

  7. Wife and I just moved to Knoxville TN which is about a 3 hour drive from Nashville. We'll be going to a few games this season. First one is Calgary on 11/1. Should be a lot of fun.

  8. If I was in Nashville, there’s no way stamkos doesn’t wave his clause, retain 1 million and get a first round pick, (I hope Tampa gets him) trade forsberg for a bag and then start the rebuild off that, Nashville has a good chunk of older veterans they can get good picks for to speed up the rebuild

  9. Is that the only jersey with that neck collar design? Its always jumps out at me. Moreso than that logo

  10. Trotz is continuing his mentor's (David Poile) strategy of "let's win AND rebuild simultaneously" which only ever ends up with making the playoffs, losing in Round 1, drafting in the middle, and never really aquiring franchise-altering talent or making a Stanley Cup push.

Prediction: Nashville wins more games this year, is in the playoff race, then Willie Daunic and the other Preds homers talk about "exceeding expectations" with the ever-present nod to the future in Milwaukee. Business as usual 😢

  11. as a preds fan i wish nashville would just go full rebuild theyre overdue for one same with boston i just wanna see Josi lift the cup

  12. Damn, just watched your CAR video and while still thinking CAR's 2nd center question, shifted to this video, and O'reilly popped in front of me. Would be an awesome addition to CAR, but NSH knows their need, so the price would probably be a bit too steep.

  13. Blues fan here…. and by default, I love seeing the Preds lose. However, I really like their structure (not sarcasm).

They have a great forward in Forsberg. As long as he is healthy, he's just a stud and can play w the best of them. Imagine him playing with Robert Thomas! … oh a Blues fan can dream, right?!?!?!

Saros is a great goalie when he is focused. His problem is that the players in front of him tend to play defense only 50 minutes of a game. For those 10 minutes, Saros moves in the crease about as much as his "no goals" commercial. Next thing you know, 3 goals in 90 seconds.

Their banger style is excellent. These guys are some of the biggest goons in the league and can bash w the best of them.

Josi leads this team and they reflect him 100%. If he sucks, the team sucks. If he is on, the team is on. This team needs more balance from their mid-pack players.

Forecheck is good with this team but their defense really isn't. They are susceptible to bonehead penalties, losing focus, and skating on their heals in their own zone. The coach can be blamed, but I put this one on the players. They skate like their mere presence will keep goals from going in. They dont roll up their sleeves and work for 60 minutes. This is why they lose.

Same type of players… this team didnt need Stamkos. What they need are some faster skates that can apply pressure and cause turnovers. The top line can pretty much do that, but it falls off dramatically on lines 2 and 3.

Age… this team is getting up there and it shows in average team speed. They are heavy but certainly not fast.

If this team can commit to playing for Saros on defense, slow the pace of the game down, and avoid the 10-minute brainfarts, they can push for a wild card spot. If not, the Preds front office needs to start cutting the fat and retooling before Forsberg gets too old.

  14. If we all saw this video 1 year ago tady we would have thought THG was playing an April Fools prank. The Preds are the epitomy of "looks good on paper"

  15. Lines and pairings don't mean a thing with Brunette as coach. He will change them before they even get a full first shift in. Marchessault called him out midseason for it. Who knows where we are headed, Trotz can't seem to make up his mind himself. We are all hoping Brunette gets canned early in the season, its the only real hope that roster has.
