Boston Bruins Were NOT WRONG Trading Brad Marchand to Florida Panthers! #shorts #nhl #bradmarchand

even after seeing Brad Marshian do this and win the cup again and how it might just sting a little bit especially with how good he was in the final I don’t think Don Sweeney made a bad move by trading him do I think the return could have been better yes i said that at the time it makes even more sense now with how valuable he was in the postseason but in a vacuum the Bruins trading Brad Marshian where they were in this season was not the wrong move it wasn’t

While painful for fans, the Bruins’ decision to trade Brad Marchand was not wrong, given the circumstances surrounding the 2025 NHL trade deadline.

Firstly, contract negotiations had stalled significantly. Despite Marchand’s desire to stay and the Bruins’ efforts, a “term gap” on a potential extension meant they were far apart on annual salary, with Marchand reportedly feeling the offer wasn’t what he was worth. Facing Marchand potentially walking for nothing as an unrestricted free agent in the summer, the Bruins prioritized recouping assets.

Secondly, the team’s performance was subpar. Hovering around .500 and five points out of a playoff spot, the Bruins determined they weren’t Cup contenders in 2025. Trading Marchand, along with other veterans, signaled a retooling rather than continued mediocrity.

Finally, the trade to Florida gave Marchand an immediate chance to win another Stanley Cup, which he ultimately did. This “classy move” allowed a franchise legend to pursue a championship while Boston gained a conditional 2027 second-round pick (which could convert to a first-rounder if certain conditions are met). While emotionally difficult, it was a practical decision for the franchise’s future.

  1. It was completely the wrong move!! You admitted it should’ve been more in return. Plus he was your captain. Marchand deserved better from the bruins

  2. Marchand played better due to lack of pressure. No Captaincy, lack of offense from others relying on main guys. March hasn't been himself without Bergy, but he showed he's still got it with other stars around him

  3. Honestly if he’s smart, he’ll stay over there. He’s got a pretty good chance at winning more cups over the next 4 years, and knowing him he’ll either come back for his last season or he’ll at least sign a 1 day contract. B’s need a serious rebuild. They definitely need to sign someone as elite as Marchy, but far younger. Maybe grab Bedard next year or something, idk… and you’re right the return could have been better. if they took a decent younger panthers player with that conventional pick, I would even go as far as saying the Bs won the trade.

  4. Keep telling yourself it wasn’t the wrong move instead of learning from your mistakes ….lying to yourself won’t build a stronger team

  5. You can’t say ā€œin a vacuumā€ when none of us live ā€œin a vacuumā€ and you ADMIT that the return was inadequate. Was trading Marchand the wrong move? Debatable. Was it a bad trade given the destination and the return? Not debatable… the answer is yes.

  6. I’m sorry, but after what we have seen from Brad Marchand, the Boston Bruins absolutely made the wrong choice. Not only Boston should’ve paid Brad what he asked but also make sure he remain a Bruin for the rest of his career. Who are you trying to fool?
Who trades their captain like a garbage player? Florida will never do that to Barkov because they respect them too much
