The Sheet’s Jeff Marek also stops by for a chat about the road ahead for Pettersson and whether he might be among the more interesting storylines of the entire league this season. Marek also gets into the dry NHL market right now, even with some unsigned RFA’s still out there, plus, he gets into the messy aftermath of the World Juniors trial.

I'm also rooting for them, but I know plenty of people in this fan base aren't. This definitely isn't the 90s. Maybe it's the state of our world, but the fact that so many people in this market want everyone who isn't North American shipped out of town is gross. The Canucks had and have bigger problems than a struggling EP40, and if they're expecting him to suddenly be a physical presence or else he's useless, maybe they shouldn't watch hockey.
I expect a decent bounce back from Petey. I'd love to hope for another 100pts, but I think I'd be happy if he gets back to a pt/gm and keeps his solid D. At his best, he can be a more offensively dangerous Barkov
imo, Toronto's starting lineup is better than last season. MM is a high-end player, but that money spread to 3 others (and the style 2 of them play), plus a playmaker, makes that roster better overall, imo. No team got closer to taking Fla down last playoffs, I think GM Tre is doing an excellent job under difficult circumstances. Also, I'm no Leaf's fan, lol, GoUtahGo
Petey is gonna be great. I said it here first. He’s going to be the feel good story of the NhL in ‘26
Potentiality and actuality, actualized, reversion, back to potentiality. Poor EP40 lol. The whole province is trying to analyze his brain.
Petey 120 points
THIS PETY GUY BETTER GET HIS SHIT TOGETHER FANS LIKE ME ARE GETTING TIRED OF THE BULL EXCUSES
Weak…
Petey is NOT an easy guy to cheer for this season.
1. He makes 11.6 million, which I believe is the 5th highest paid in the league. If you don’t produce, you’ll see how tolerant a Canadian Market will be. Ask Toronto. 11.6 means you’re expected to be the best player on the ice RVERY GAME.
2. He ran JT Miller, our best forward making less money out of town. AND WE STILL DONT KNOW WHAT WAS DONE. All we know is they didn’t get along. Well if that is, people aren’t going to have sympathy. I work with some people I don’t like right now. Get over it Mr. 11.6. Especially if JT plays well and he doesn’t?? Oh boy.
3. He’s been in a slump for like a year and a half. If he starts the season out slow, there is NO MORE grace period. The tolerance is gone. He needs to be a PPG player by game 2. And I don’t want a hear no, ‘the fans need to be patient’ nonsense. We’ve been patient for 18+ months. He better be top 5 in scoring because that’s what he gets paid to be. Top 10 at the LEAST.
Even if he ends the season with 82 points, that’s going to be baaaaad news.
So no. Elias Petterson has until about November before the entire city turns on him.
I hope he’s working out in this offseason.
Paterson & Price has a nice ring to it…🤔
Glad Marek is back doing hockey. He got jobbed by Sportsnet imo.
Canucks have one of the best defence in the league at this point, and one of the best goalchie tandem.
Miller is 32, his prime years are behind him now so trading at value was a good move. Petey is only 26 so he hasn't entered his prime yet at all. With 0.97 points per game he has a better average than any player from the 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2020 draft class and only 2 players of the 2016 class have higher. That puts him top 3 out of 5 combined draft years for total points per game average and top 2 for even strength points per game average. All this while having linemates like Mikeyvev, a coach that didnt trust him, and a powerplay that was run through Miller/Hughes for most of his career.
What the hell is Jeff talking about. What about Petterssons personality and playing ability makes his easy to like? I find him easy to dislike
