Struble
Matheson’s time in MTL is up , he’s turning 32 , will want a 4 to 5 year deal and is projected to be worth 6.5M per year .
Too old , too long and too expensive for the direction the Habs are taking .
Also keep in mind they need cap space for Hutson , Demidov , renewing or replacing Laine and same for Dach . Bolduc is also on the last year of his contract .
I see Struble as the more well-rounded player who gives you a bit of everything. Xhekaj is the big tree you have to get around to get where you want to go, if you can. And he sticks up for teammates more than the other two. Matheson is older, a good puckmover, and quick. But he makes too many mistakes for someone his age. I honestly believe Matheson will be the odd man out so long as Xhekaj can up his game. Besides, Montreal historically has had many pairs of brothers (Florian) on the team.

I would give Struble and Xhekaj another year and trade Matheson when you get a decent deal.
For Habs brain trust, you trade Matheson, you have Dobson and Hutson. You trade Struble you have Guhle, Carrier, Reinbacher even Xhekaj. You trade Xhekaj, who fights the league’s heavyweighs?!?! Anderson? Struble? Could come back to haunt you in any playoff run! You seem to marginalize Xhekaj’s importance on the team. Which league heavyweight has Struble stood up to? When have you heard the players talk of them feeling safer and therefore able to play bigger with Struble in the line up and Xhekaj out? Don’t get me wrong, I love Struble, but the Xhekaj’s of the league help win playoff games and championships! There is probably 40, 50, 60 defensemen like Struble in the league! There is probably only around 5 Xhekaj’s in the league currently! Just a thought!
Well obviously within the next year, one of those 3 will be gone. They're not gonna carry 5 LHD after Reinbacher eventually makes the team and you actually have 3 right handed RHD
Put arber 4th line offense
He wants to be in Montreal. So take a deep discount. Thats the only way there is a chance. Something like 3 yr at 3.5 M a season. I’d rather arber improves and is kept.
I've been predicting a Guhle for McTavish trade for weeks. Not that I want to give up Guhle, but would be the price to pay, Guhle plus Dach, maybe a draft pick for McTavish
