BOMBSHELL: Brad Marchand STUNS NHL With SHOCKING 6-Year Deal, Did Bruins DODGE A BULLET Here?

BOMBSHELL: Brad Marchand STUNS NHL With SHOCKING 6-Year Deal, Did Bruins DODGE A BULLET Here?

The biggest, most shocking, the most shocking free agency contract so far has to belong to the Florida Panthers and it’s Brad Marshand. There were rumors about the Bruins and the Leafs and maybe even Utah trying to get Brad Marshian. Bruins trying to get him back after denying a three-year deal before the trade deadline and sending him down to Florida. that wasn’t going to happen because he signed a sixyear deal worth $32 million. When I saw that come across, I was literally taking a swig of water and almost choked. That’s got to be one of the most shocking free agent deals of all time. Brad Marshian’s a terrific player. Brad Marshian’s a great player. He’s coming off a great postseason. He just won the Stanley Cup. He fits the Florida Panthers perfectly. I get that. Brad Marshian’s also 37 years old and they signed him to a six-year contract. And I know people are saying, “Oh, well, you know, in a couple years with the way the cap’s going up, 5.5 million for a guy who’s not playing, not that big a deal.” It’s not a big money. It’s not big money. Five and a half million in four or five years. But if he’s not playing, that’s huge money for someone who’s not on your team. I hope Marshian does make it the life of the contract just because I’m a Brad Marshian fan. But you’re banking on him playing in the postseason at age 43. Run it out there. I mean, let’s less we forget this dude did have three surgeries going into this past season. All right. It’s not like he is a spring chicken here even at age 37. This is not Tom Brady pliability. I truly cannot believe someone gave him a six-year contract. And it’s once again Bill Zto being an absolute wizard by getting this done. Like say all you want about the Panthers, man, credit to him. They got this done. The Bruins 1,000% dodged a bullet on this Brad Marian deal. I didn’t want them to give him a third year to go through age 39 or in this case age 40. I didn’t want them to do that in March. There’s no chance I would want them to do a six-year deal in July. That just doesn’t benefit anybody for the Bruins and where they’re at right now. And not just a a money standpoint or a year standpoint, but let’s be honest here. This is not the Bruins of 2011. These are not the Bruins of 2019. It’s not even the Bruins of two years ago, okay? They need to be done with that era. They need to clean break from their Stanley Cup window because it’s not there anymore. And you would just be spinning your wheels if you just said, “Yeah, Brad Marshian, bring him back. Let’s make him the third or fourth highest play paid player on the team and just put the captainc back on his sweater.” That would be a move in reverse. Even though I think Marshian has some good hockey left in him. the Bruins did the right thing by trading him when they did and moving on. They’ll say it’s a retool. It’s a rebuild and they need to move on. And that’s what they’re doing by doing this. This was a good thing that Don Sweeney did to get a first round pick for him. I think they probably should have got a little bit more. But the alternative now was not making the playoffs anyway with Brad Marshand on your roster and him taking a four or fiveear deal somewhere else and losing him for nothing. Okay, this was a good thing that the Bruins did not go and try to resign him for the years, for the money, and for the just mental capacity of moving on. It sucks. It sucks that he’s going to be in your division and you’re going to play against him a lot. And no doubt there’s going to be some incident, right? There’s going to be some incident that he does against a Bruin. He and Sam Bennett just cheapshotting people. Like that’s probably going to happen and that stinks. And he’s going to retire a Florida Panther, but it’s good to move on here. Doesn’t mean you don’t look in the mirror. Doesn’t mean you don’t try to get better. doesn’t mean you reevaluate and look at why Brad Marshian certainly wouldn’t want to come back here in free agency even if it were a three-year deal because I don’t think he would have. But it’s probably best to just move on. Okay? It’s a good thing to do. I’ll tell you what though. I’ll tell you what, for those of you who don’t buy into the no state income tax argument, maybe check what the Florida Panthers have done this summer. Maybe check what the Vegas Golden Knights just did with Mitch Martyr. Maybe check what the Dallas Stars did with Miko Rantin. Okay, somehow someway the Panthers fit into their books. Aaron Eblad, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marshant in this off season. Bennett and Marshand combined for what 29 goals in the postseason and the Panthers were able to keep them with minimal cap room. Bennett 8 million, Marian 5 a.5 million, Eblad 5 a.5 million. You think they were getting more than that on the open market? Of course they were. Those were three of the biggest free agents in the class and Florida brought them all back at a discount. If you want to say it’s an unfair advantage, whatever. But it’s definitely an advantage. Okay. Mitch Mner is a 100point guy in his prime with a new increased salary cap. Leon Dryid is getting paid 14 million. Mitch Mner gets 12. Colorado had a 100 point score in Miko Rantin and didn’t think they were going to be able to resign him because they thought they’d have to go to 14 or 15 million. He goes to a state with no income tax and bam 8 by 12 just like Mitch Martner’s contract. Huh? And you really don’t think this has to this factors in at all. You really don’t. Again, this is not me saying that that’s the only reason those teams are good. Okay, Vegas always pulls money out of their ass, but Dallas and Florida have two of the best GMs in the sport. Don’t get me wrong, but it’s pretty dumb to say that’s not an advantage at this point. I don’t think any team that has income tax would have been able to do what the Florida Panthers just did. No team. I don’t think the Oilers would be able to. And I get it. They’ve lost the last two Stanley Cup finals, but they’ve been in the last two Stanley Cup finals. They wouldn’t be able to pull that off. They just signed Evan Bushard for 10 and a half. They’re not going to be able to pull off, hey, why don’t you take why don’t you take eight? Why don’t you take seven? Florida be able to do that. It’s again, I don’t think there’s a ton of people, this is a huge misconception that hockey fans think that some hockey fans are saying that Florida’s only good because they have that tax benefit. No, but you’re also stupid to think that’s not an advantage. Of course, that’s an advantage. They’re well-run organizations. Nashville, for example, is not and doesn’t have a state income tax. But that’s a huge advantage. There’s no way the Bruins or the Leafs could have taken Brad Marshian at 5 a.5 million. There’s no way the Seattle Kraken could have got Narin Neckblad at 5.5 million. And there’s no way Montreal could have got Sam Bennett at 8 million. There’s just no way. You’re lying to yourself if you think that’s true. So, this is a win for the Boston Bruins in some ways to not get Brad Marshand, but the things the Florida Panthers are doing this summer with Aaron Ecklad, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marshand is a huge win for the state income tax argument people. Huge win. Because no team outside of those ones that don’t have state income tax would be able to pull that off. Nobody. But let me know what you think in the comments section below. Bruins fans, the Brad Marchand free agency saga has taken a wild turn! After winning the Stanley Cup with Florida, Marchand has officially signed a SIX-YEAR, $31.5 million contract to stay with the Panthers. At 37 years old, this long-term commitment has the hockey world buzzing – and not necessarily in a good way!

Join host Cam Stuart of “The Cam Show” as he unleashes his unfiltered take on why this deal for Marchand, extending through his age-43 season, is a massive gamble for Florida. Cam dives into the potential pitfalls of such a lengthy contract for an aging veteran, even one as productive as Marchand. We’ll analyze the cap implications for the Panthers in the coming years and, crucially, discuss why the Boston Bruins, who were rumored to be interested in a reunion, may have just dodged a significant bullet by not pursuing such an aggressive term. Was this a genius move by the Panthers, or a future albatross? Tune in for the full, honest breakdown!

  1. Florida was losing team nobody was bringing the tax bs now they are a winning team that's all you talk about stop wining 😂😂😂

  2. For the Bruins it didn’t make sense, but the Panthers right now are a top caliber team with the possibility of winning at least another cup. As to the no tax part Florida sucked many years and nobody mentioned the no sales tax then so that all BS

Also don’t compare living in Edmonton to living in the beach and walking in flip flops and shorts in the winter

  3. If no state income tax is an advantage, then you have to put a cap on how much a player can make in endorsements, subsidize property taxes where suitable, and reimburse variable insurance rates due to high risk areas. Fair is fair, right? Exactly. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

  4. The Bruins PR Department spin machine has been putting out the media talking point that they "Bruins dodged a bullet with Marchy". No…The Panthers actually did what the Bruins should've done after taking less money for years in Boston. Simping for Don Sweeney isn't a good luck for anyone!

  5. Boston fanbase starts to sound a lot like Toronto fanbase… Still few steps less away from insanity

  6. I do not understand how none of you get the fact that it will not affect answers when he stops playing two or three years in all the six years did keep us under the salary cap

  7. From formal Bruin fact at his age he better then what’s left wish you stop about injuries charlie macavoy been of almost every season for one reason or not . He laid the biggest hit I ever seen in 4 nations and been off ever since I get tired of hearing about injuries as an excuse when you got worse left organization has away of making excuses for political favouritism In organization

  8. But if tax is an advantage is a benefit only matters for winning teams only team s on this discussion is panthers and knights

  9. It's definitely not about the money, it's about taking care of a player who was the face of a franchise, took multiple team friendly deals to stay with the team, and when he asked for an increase at the end of his career to secure his future the team traded him for peanuts. He was instrumental on the Panthers run to the cup, so honestly he deserves every last dollar of this contract even if he doesn't play the last 2-3 years.

Also the way the cap is going up, $5.25M is nothing, and it truly shows him that the Panthers care for him and his investment. At this point it wouldn't surprise me if he started considering retiring his number with the Panthers should they win another cup in the next 2-3 years.

  10. Wake up, it's got nothing to do with taxes. There's only a 7% difference when you account for everything.
Plus Florida has road taxes, property taxes ,school taxes.
Wake up, quit being a putz. It's called good team management.

  11. I don’t understand what you don’t get about this whole signing. If Brad Marchand helps the Panthers the way he did this year and they win another one or two Stanley cups who cares what happens the last three years! The Panthers GM I think is a pretty bright guy so I’m gonna go with what he feels is the right thing to do.😂

  12. Did you watch any of the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Boston showed no loyalty. Good luck with the rebuild. He smashed it at the highest level. Don't know if we beat Edmington without this guy. I'll take his hockey IQ and positive attitude all day long. We got him for cheap. Totally worth the risk. Even if he doesn't play for 2 years we still win and another beautiful addition thanks to management and coaching staff. This dude sells tickets and is a dog.

  13. The whole state income tax is getting old because it is such a ridiculous statement. Is Florida a retirement state? Yes. But there are other states with no income tax that have not been able to keep their players. Just so you know, if you live in New York, your salary is much higher than if you live here in FL because of the state taxes in NY. That is why these franchises need to pay them more, to offset those state taxes. At the end of the day, after state and federal taxes, the salary difference is negligible. Simple math. There is more to them staying than the lack of state income tax. A lot more.

  14. You're a clown if you say that no state income is a huge advantage. Is it and advantage? yes. Is it huge? no It comes out to less than 7% and so it's tiny. They still get taxed on most of their road games my dude. Get real. Your take is stupid as f. There's taxes on other things to make up for the loss revenue on not having a state income tax.

  15. Lets go through this my guy. The Salary Cap is going up. If he plays 3-4 years and he retires its dead money and the Panthers are not going anywhere. Plus you don't have to play him 82 games to wear him out.

    What a bad take.

  16. This guy sounds like he's in middle school trying to figure out what the Panthers are up to. He don't get it.

  17. What are the Bruins going to do with a gamer like Marchand? Make him captain and frustrate him with a bunch of slaggers who hardly show up? Give that off to Pastrnak FYI: the word is out that other teams (eg Utah) offered Marchy more than $10M..he passed. He loves the real team thing in FLA and being in a room of professionals who take care of their came and prepare well. There was none of that in Boston last season! FYI: Marchand got term to offer him the total value of similar contracts. Sweeney didn't get a 1st round pick forya- Marchy got it forya…go back and look at the conditions (ie you got a 2nd rounder that Marchy converted). You're welcome, again, Marchy! Note: he also brought you the last SC you won in 50+ years. Players see this stuff. Maybe that's another reason why the FA signings were so poor this time, again…the only ones who are interested aren't worth the contract…like Lindholm. 😝

  18. If Brad can't play the last two years then he'll be scratched at no cap hit.

The extra years are basically differed payment from the years before it to keep them under the cap.

Payroll is nothing compared to their income, so outmaneuvering the cap like this is a huge win for the Cats.

  19. The no tax argument is just over talked about and not as big a contributing factor as people want to make it out to be. The USA average state tax come out to roughly 8%. Considering player pay jock tax wherever they play/go really half the time they would be paying those taxes anyways. So the advantage comes down to 4%. On a $10million player they save themselves $400k. And that’s the advantage for superstars. A 3 mill player would only save 120k. Yes it exists but it’s a positively tiny advantage compared to advantages others mention like endorsements where a player like Austin Mathew’s makes $5 million annually and Barkov making only $1 million.

  20. You’re shocked that a team that made it 3 years in a row to the finals, and already had 6 other core players locked through 2030. A WAGON. was able to get home town friendly deals????? Dude they left millions on the floor. Well beyond the benefits of a tax advantage. Players do this all the time. They take sweetheart deals so they can be on winning teams. You think Bennet, Ekblad, and Marchand care more about money than rings????

  21. I'd highly recommend watching any of the interviews post-extension of either Ekblad or Bennett. Both of them spoke about how they had no interest in leaving Florida because of the players in the room, how good the organization treats them, and that they understand that taking less money allows the team to stay competitive for Stanley Cups. For those two at least, staying has little to nothing to do with income taxes. I can't speak for Marchand because he didn't do any interviews after his extension was announced. Also Barkov makes 10 million, who in that locker room that's up for an extension can reasonably argue that they should be making more than the x3 Selke x2 Stanley Cup Champion Team Captain?
