Sabres Extend Levi, Chara Runs a Triathlon, Marchand’s Day with the Cup

Welcome back. All right, news of the day video for all you fine people on the internet for your Friday, August the 1st. Uh, starting off at the top of the board. That’s how these usually work. Uh, Nick Robertson, uh, he has an arbitration case on Sunday. It is the only case going to arbitration. And of course, Toronto and Robertson can avoid arbitration by coming to a deal between now and when the arbitration case is set to be heard on Sunday. Uh, and seeing the numbers, I don’t think this is unrealistic for Robertson to ask this. His ask is 2.25 million. The Leafs offering 1.2 million. Uh, I think for Robertson, I think if they can sign him to a 2-year extension at two and a 2.25 million, even 2.5 million, I think that’s a pretty good pretty good bet. Robertson has a lot of talent. It’s just a matter of him putting it together consistently at the NHL level. And so, yeah, uh we’ll see if that gets dealt with before we reach Sunday, uh or if it is actually going to need the arbitrator, which nobody has thus far. Uh Devin Levi has signed a 2-year extension with the Buffalo Sabres. It carries a cap hit of $812,500. U so Levi, who is still waivers exempt, very likely to end up starting the year at the AHL level. Uh he is, according to Puck Pedia, 21 games away from not being waivers exempt. So, that’s something to keep an eye on this coming season and see if he plays that amount of games. And then, of course, if he doesn’t have waiverss exempt status, it means he’s a National Hockey League goalender because you’re not going to wave Levi. Uh, I don’t see him passing through waiverss unless he has a terrible time of it, but if he has a terrible time of it, he’s probably not going to play 21 games for them either. Uh, Zado continues to show that the aging process does not interest him. He has completed a triathlon in France. Um, triathlons are not easy on any level. So, kudos to Charara for doing so, you know, and I get proud of myself for doing the treadmill almost every day. But, yeah, I’m not doing triathlons. It’s not happening. Um, I mean, if it was jogging and and and bike riding, I might be able to do a bathlon that way, but yeah. Anyways, and and even then, it’s just a might. I I would probably just say I’ll pass. I’m fine. Thanks. But anyways, all the best to Shara and and nice to see him still um in shape and and proving it. Uh so, uh there’s a lot of hockey camps going on right now. I did see one on social media involving uh the Florida Panthers, for instance, a lot where they’re teaching these kids to play and and getting kids into hockey. And I think it’s great. I think even if these kids don’t end up, you know, having careers in hockey, you’re at least getting them interested in the sport. You’re teaching them the basics. And I think it makes them more likely to be a fan of the sport once they realize how difficult it is. And ice hockey is very difficult to play. So Jack Eel in Vegas has completed his third J9 hockey camp in Las Vegas. So he coaches youth hockey players through um the the process of summer camp that they’re doing there. Um I’m sure there’s a way I could have said that a little bit more eloquently, but we’ll stay with what I got there. So, I think that’s great that that Eel does that and that a lot of players do this during the summer. I mean, these guys make a lot of money. They could go and spend their whole summer somewhere else or uh just, you know, stay home, hang out with buddies and whatever. I think it’s great when they give back to the community like this. And while I’s on the board, as I mentioned, Florida does it. There are numerous other hockey camps that take place during the summer, and it’s it’s something fun for the kids to do during the summer as well. Uh, speaking of kids, during the summer, the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase uh, runs until tomorrow. So, it’s been running since I think it’s July 25th. Uh, today Canada is against Sweden and Finland’s against the Americans and tomorrow it wraps with Finland against Sweden and the Americans against the Canadians because that’s how you wrap up a tournament, right? So, this is taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Minnesota is hosting the uh, World Juniors. Let me just go ahead and fix that. Hosing, not hosers. They’re hosting. They’re hosting. Very Canadian there. Hosing uh hosting the World Juniors from December 6th, December 26th, I should say, Boxing Day through until January 5th. So, that’ll be St. St. Paul and Minneapolis hosting the World Juniors. When we get there, summer showcase is kind of a nice thing. Uh at this summer summer showcase, I’ll get there. uh Michael Misa who is motivated to make the World Junior squad this year because he was snubbed last year. He didn’t get an invite to the summer showcase, nor did he get an invite to training camp and and the allowance to to make it onto the World Junior team. What’s interesting with Misa is he may very well be with the San Jose Sharks in October. There is the possibility he’s got that contract signed and they get him in the lineup. Uh then the question I would have would be so if Misa is signed by the Sharks, do we see them making him available to go and play at the World Juniors? There are cases where teams have allowed it and there are cases where teams haven’t. So uh Mis is doing his best to make it onto the roster. Um I know that I’ve seen James Haggins of the Bruins is at this as well. There’s there’s various really top-notch prospects that are playing at this and it’s kind of fun. Again, it’s summer, but for for a lot of these hockey players, it’s hockey 12 months a year. I know for me, and I’m no hockey player, it’s 12 months a year for me as well. Uh Marshon had his day with the cup in Halifax. So, this is part of the reason why I don’t make a big deal about, oh, Canadian teams don’t win the Stanley Cup. Canadian players do and they bring it home to Canada. So, he had his picture taken with Crosby and McKinnon and his photo with the cup. Uh he was also seen going through a Tim Horton’s drive-thru and decided against a Boston cream. Said, “No, maybe I shouldn’t.” So, the Boston thing is still still the the butt of the joke for Marshon. Uh which is understandable. And yeah, he just seems overjoyed right now. I think him getting his picture with Crosby and McKinnon, I think that’s great. And so, let’s go ahead and start that rumor that Crosby, Marshon, and McKinnon are all going to play together somewhere. Fine. They’ll play together at the Olympics. You guys are boring. But at any rate, uh yeah, nice to see this the Stanley Cup making its rounds and it’s nice to see it in Canada. Um I’m always appreciative of players bringing it up, bring it to their hometown and uh and and sharing that experience with people. I think it’s fantastic. I have never seen the Stanley Cup in person. Um so I I I do hope at some point in time I can go to uh to see it in person at the Hockey Hall of Fame. I do get that question here and there of whether or not I’ve ever been to the Hockey Hall of Fame and the answer is no. I have never been to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I have I have thought about going there. There’s the possibility this winter during the Olympic break uh if we decide to to take a trip. Uh we we’re debating about maybe going to Toronto. Yeah, we’re that’s that’s one of the places that I’m thinking, you know, uh maybe Toronto would work and maybe maybe I get a day with the cup. I can just go into the hockey hall of fame and go, “Hey, I’m the hockey guy. Can I just borrow this?” And of course they’ll be like, “Well, yeah, hold the door open, guys. Walking through with the It’s fine. It’s no big deal.” Um, probably not. But anyways, there you go. So, there’s been a lot of these articles on the NHL’s website, and I I figured I would I would put this on the board, but this is a discussion that we see a lot during the summer, the young players. So, mentioning Misa for instance, a lot of young players that are looking forward to this coming season. But Callum Richie with the New York Islanders is an interesting one. if Richie’s able to show that his offense is, you know, going to be potentially top six level this year in the NHL and if he can defend well and he says in the article on the NHL website that is he’s defending well and he’s he’s really brought his game up to that next level, he feels like he’s ready to play now for the New York Islanders and the Islanders could really use a gifted young forward in their lineup. One thing that I do like that Matthew Dar is doing, you can see that he is kind of pivoting towards younger players, uh, he did honor contracts that Lou had negotiated. Uh, the not signed, but negotiated. He did honor those agreements and sign them. Um, Paul Mary comes to mind as one of them. But it does feel like the New York Islanders are moving towards a younger roster. So, Callum Richie might be one to keep an eye on and see if he had if he does win a chance to show what he can do and if the Islanders are going to get more younger players in there or if we’re going to see a lineup that’s that’s got a lot of veterans there instead. So, I do think the New York Islanders are going to pivot a little bit here and guys like Richie will be ones to watch in training camp and especially preseason and see what kind of offer what kind of opportunities they get. But uh it should be an interesting upcoming season. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. As always, happy August everybody. Uh this is generally the month where people do not watch hockey videos. So I will do my best to provide content that at least gets people talking. So I did like the goalending video yesterday. Look forward to some some some lists. And for people who’ve noticed, I I really don’t get involved in the comment section anymore. I’m well aware of, you know, the opinions are going to be what the opinions are. I am much better now than I was, say, five, six, seven years ago at understanding people are just going to have a difference of opinion on things and it’s okay. And sometimes people are just going to be kind of nasty about the things they say about my opinions on things, and that’s okay, too. So, I just just let it all go. Uh, it’s definitely been a big part of my my evolution as a YouTuber this year is just to kind of let things go. That’s why I’m not doing as many videos during the summer as I normally do. So, let me know your thoughts. Hit like and subscribe if you haven’t done so already. Thank you guys so much for those of you who are still watching the videos during the summer. I will keep making them. And now we’re up to that part of the summer, too, where I’m going to start have to start pre-recording videos. Uh, in that we’re we’re going to go to Europe. And I don’t think when I’m in Europe, I should be in a hotel room for 5 six hours a day recording videos. That doesn’t make any sense. So, uh, and and whiteboards and everything else I’d have to bring. It just it gets ridiculous. So, I don’t do that anymore. Thank you guys so much for all your support. Hit like and subscribe if you haven’t done so already. But thank you guys so much for everything. I will talk to you again soon.

  1. Idk who picks the world junior team for Canada but they suck lol. Left out a lot of good players from the WHL off the team. Some didn’t even get an invite

  2. At this point,I’m thinking Robertson is on his way out.The arbitration process can be brutal-the players get ripped apart by management.

  3. Love my time at hockey camps! From G-Boro/W-S, NC (1974), Haliburton 🇨🇦(1975) and Berkshire, MA (1976). A ways back, memorable nonetheless 🏒

  4. One of my favorite Buffalo jerseys 👍🏻. I’ll be watching to see where it shows up in the countdown

  5. Hey hockey guy, really appreciate your videos.
I realise you will be taking time off soon.
You mentioned not making as many vids during deep summer.
I have really liked your history vids. Not popular but geezers like me like them……just saying.

  6. There better be One Major trade while you are in paris because if we dont get a video with the Eiffel in the backround its gonna be a huge travesty on this channel!

  7. In Canada we don't play "ice" hockey. In Europe they play "ice" hockey. Since you love Europe so much you ever think of moving they?

  8. Blasphemy! I only watch hockey vids in Aug. Only THG vids! I love you more than my own father. Enjoy Paris. It’s the best city in the world.

  9. Shannon you absolutely have to visit the HHOF ; it is so worth the visit. BUT wait until the Cup comes back.
