  1. Agreed. A lot of bullshit out there from people who have constant shiny new toy syndrome.

Laine is not being traded before the season anywhere and most likely not during either.
Unless he absolutely shoots off a cannon with production and someone wants him for the SC run, and the Habs would get an insane return.
Unlikely, though, because the return would most likely be picks or some such, which is not what the Habs are looking for.

  2. Its bad in that he is not much of a player, He has a great shot. Be nice if he did enough early on to stimulate a trade,
Montreal had the 21st best powerplay last year with laine and his 15 pp goals.

  3. he could easily start scoring on 5 vs 5. Ppl zero in on stats too much. He had a good year on the pp doesnt mean hes just only good at that. The reason id trade him is becuase we're over the cap and only if we cant get back into compliance with other deals such as moving Anderson, Gallagher, Price or Matheson

  4. Let’s not forget he missed almost all of the previous season, had no summer conditioning and had a devastating injury to start the year. Patience is the key to all situations. Nothing “must” happen with any of the questions this season. The Habs are not a contender YET, don’t make the wrong decision thinking they are and ruin the work they have done by being premature. For example Ottawa 2 seasons ago.

  5. Your posted power play lines one and two make no sense and will never happen. Line 1 start of the year: Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky. Line 2 start of the year Laine-Bolduc-Demidov. Within a month or two, St Louis will likely realise that interchanging Slav with DemiGod on line 1 PP makes sense.

  6. Lets consider these facts before being too harsh on Laine:

He finished 4th in goals on the team despite playing only 52 games.
He was on pace to score 32 goals in 82 games that would have made him second in goals on the team.
He played coming back from missing a season, and back from mental issues, and a knee injury.
He got a hand injury during the season that visibly reduced his ability to shoot the puck at the elite level he normally does, and he was clearly frustrated by that.

He might get his first chance to start the season healthy at the same time as the other players
He might be in a much better health and cardio that he was during the entire season last year
He might play with better players he did last season.

If it does not work, its his last contract year, so its not a problem to let him go.
If he does have a good season, and wants to stay, you might be able to have him sign a team friendly deal and term, say 5M for 3 years, and if he can score at a 30+ goal rhythm thats a good deal.

  7. Laine was not able to train last summer because of an injury and being in the program. Then in training camp he got in a knee injury. So I feel he did really good last season. If he still doesn't look good 5 on 5 this year then that's a different story but I feel he will do better if he can stay healthy the whole season.

  8. I like the guy and his spirit. But as they did with Suzuki, Cole, Slav even Lane some will denigrate a Montreal player based on bias instead of having an actual hockey IQ.

  9. that's what they do here in Montreal with players..if he was french Canadian? he would never be mentioned in trade rumors but since he is not? the fans have a much shorter fuse of patience..and I say this as a french Canadian living in Montreal

  10. Nah, he stays. And frankly I’m playing him with demidov, and def not newhook but rather dach on power play 2 as well as line 2. Let’s see what these three got together across the board the first month or so. and Dobson, along with Ghule pp2. Thus, I’m bumping Bolduc to power play one in the bumper. With line one and pp1 that ended the season. Gallagher goes to penalty kill time only this year and so does Matheson. No more power play time for either. Balance the minutes better.

  11. Laine is a bum 5 on 5 .
He had all the incentive in the world to step it up down the stretch but he tanked bad.
MTL was fighting for a playoff spot and in his last 9 game block he got 1 goal in 9 games no assists.Even his shots avg per game dropped a bit down the stretch so he is NOT a big time player .
Since leaving the safety combines of Wheeler and Scheifele Laine has been a minus every single year.

  12. Fans in Montreal need to relax. My god the guy missed so much time because he was hurt. hurt for along time. The fans are suppose to be one of the most knowable in the league blow way too many things out of the proportion. Everyone needs to chill. Thanks Kevin from Halifax NS

  13. I said this over a month ago when a lot of people were saying he should be on the pp2. Absolutely crazy talk, laine is a pp1 on any team in the league. Never mind talking about dumping him.

  14. Laine has quit on every team he's played for. He might have a good year this season because of a new contract. After his new deal he will go back to his regular self. He is a great trade deadline move to a true contender. Should get a first rounder in part of the package deal.
