So, could the Pittsburgh Penguins be trading away Brian Rust to the Buffalo Sabres this 2025 NHL off season? Well, here on the screen is a news item or a news I guess update from Pug Empire on Instagram which says the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Buffalo Sabres have been linked to Brian Rust per David Peg not. Now, just for this video, I want to talk about the Buffalo Sabres and the reported interest in Brian Rust. Now, from Buffalo’s perspective, there’s no way but up. Like, this team has been a disaster the last couple of years. I will say the future doesn’t look super bright either uh for this team. They do have they have done a pretty good job at stockpiling high-end prospects. Like, they have Rasmine, they have Owen Power, uh they had GJ Purka, but then they flipped him to Buffalo, getting back Don and Castle Ring. So, Alex Tuck needs a new contract as well. So, it’s been a little disastrous in Buffalo. I’m not going to lie. So, if they kind of want to solidify this team as heading in the right direction, at least improving, showing to the fan base, they’re willing to make some moves. Uh, for Craig Adams, it might not be a terrible idea to get somewhat aggressive and add to this team. I think Brian Russ makes a lot of sense. He’s only a two-year commitment. I believe he only has two years left on his contract, sort of around that $5 million per year mark. So, a very digestible, affordable contract for Buffalo, uh, who does have a lot of cap space at their disposal as well. and he can add some offense to this group like adding a top six, adding a top three uh right wing to maybe this first or second line, a good power play presence, a good veteran, which is very important uh for this young group in Buffalo uh with Stanley Cup experience. This makes a lot of sense if you ask me. Like I think Brian Russ going to Buffalo would be a good fit uh for Brian Russ at this point. It’s only a two-year commitment. The dollar value is pretty fair. Buffalo does have the young prospects and draft capital to make a trade of this magnitude work. So, I would imagine that if Pittsburgh were to trade Brian Rust, it would sort of be in more of a rebuilding or a retooling, I guess, outlook. So, maybe some draft capital, maybe some young prospects, just basically getting rid of this contract. Uh, might be might be of interest to the Pittsburgh Penguins, right? If it makes them financially more flexible, uh, they get back some draft picks so that when maybe Crosby retires or asks for a trade, they’re in a better spot to rebuild and kind of go through the next era of Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.
