Carter Hart walked free from court on July 24, 2025, as a judge ruled he and four others were not guilty in a high-profile sexual assault case. But what followed shocked many: despite the verdict, the NHL kept its ban in place. Now Hart, a former Flyers goalie, remains unsigned—his future in the league uncertain.
The league’s ongoing internal review prevents Hart from playing or being signed, even as legal experts and players’ unions push back. The ruling cleared him of all charges, yet the NHL holds its own ground. With public reaction split, Carter Hart’s career is suspended in a cloud of controversy.

GOOD
He should never have a career again.
Players will need to be Elite to have a team overlook this.
Carter Hart realistically may never play again. The league may be very cautious and careful about letting any of the players return. The NHLPA may feel the same.
Europe…..
Carter Hart will pin his hopes on Marc Bergevin or the Oilers and Stan Bowman… also London, Ontario has really turned into a mega metropolis from the looks of that aerial shot (13:56) lol
Another NHL disgrace under Bateman. An NHL assumption of guilt is more powerful than a court of law. Bateman and is workerism can't leave fast enough. Just another black eye for the NHL. They proudly parade Craig MacTavish around the year we are morning Johnny hockey. Yet MacTavish did the same thing as the driver yet he is a superstar. Shame on the NHL and Sportsnet for supporting him especially this year.. I bet that family love seeing MacTavish on TV.
Another case of hoe regret.
