The naysayers forget that in a couple years the cap will start going up again year by year. Once the signed long term young core is fully blooded we will be able to use that cap to get the final pieces for our cup run. Yes I think we are a couple years and some UFA/ELC contracts away from a true run.
So does Riley need to talk to Marner and explain that this is how you take a discounted contract cause you love and believe in a place?

Obviously the term could become an issue but that's the price you pay for a lower cap hit.

Its a good contract for Morgan Rielly. Its a fair contract. But the leafs as a team cant afford it cause of the terrible contracts Dubas has handed out since he took over

How is everyone ignoring the fact that Rielly is the Leafs' #1 PP dman? And the Leafs' PP#1 is an absolute disaster? 7.5 million, in this current league, NEEDS to buy you a #1 PP dman. And the Leafs still don't have one. Is Sandin the internal answer? Unlikely. (Dougie Hamilton should've been the answer over the summer, with some creativity used to be able to keep Hyman). But Dubas was too stubborn to see that path forward. But yeah: sure: Rielly's a great guy. He also can't run a PP. So let's just be honest about that.
That's a very reasonable price for Morgan Rielly.
