Habs Extend Struble, Hage, Mooney, Koivu, Invited to World Junior Showcase
Montreal Canadiens sign defenceman Jayden Struble to two year extension worth 1.41 million per season, Michael Hage, LJ Mooney, Aatos Koivu and Owen Protz invited to world junior summer showcase.
Yet another good contract for our last Hab needing to be signed in Struble. With 7 D signed, unless there are still deals to be made before the start of the season…I'm guessing Guhle-Dobson, Matheson-Hudson, Struble/Xhekaj-Carrier. I believe even if Reinbacher and/or Engstrom have a stellar camp, both will be the workhorses for Laval…with obvious call ups as injuries will occur during a long season OR that long awaited 2C deal happens. It will be fascinating to see how our D will look as we inch towards the post season..I don't want to get too ahead of myself but there are so many different scenarios that may happen before the season ends, specifically around Matheson (re-sign? trade? keep for post season?) AND the battle for that 5-6 spot between Struble & Xhekaj…with Engstrom and Reinbacher knocking on the NHL door. Great to see 4 players going to the Showcase…as much as I don't have much worries for Hage & Mooney, I hope Protz and Koivu are able to take a positive step in their development this season. Again. my biggest wildcard pre-golf tournament, pre-season is Kirby Dach. I just hope Kirby is ready to play and that he can remain healthy…he's had it tough and he deserves a good season. Will it be with the Habs or elsewhere, that is the biggie question. I'm still eagerly awaiting the Habs releasing their annual behind the scenes pre-and post 2025 NHL draft video…one of my fave vids to watch. Go Habs Go!
With the young play making defenseman they just aquired it's high time to trade Matheson in a package. I'd still take Arber over Strubble both I'd like to see then both on the roster. And in the limited views I've had of Rhinebacher I just haven't seen much that justifies all the hype. Again ; limited views of him playing. And it's do or die for Dach. He's had tough luck but time is running out.

Struble is the far superior player when compared to Arbor.
