Is Nils Hoglander a SECRET WEAPON or trade chip for the Vancouver Canucks?

With the puck on his stick, there aren’t many guys that are as electric as Vancouver Canucks forward, Nils Hoglander.

So, after five NHL seasons, why hasn’t he put it together yet?

Is 2025-26 the year that he’ll do so for the Vancouver Canucks? Or will the Canucks trade him before he gets the chance to have a breakout season.

Beggsy and Bhawan dive deep into Hoglander’s outlook, talk about waiver wire fodder and more on the latest episode of Locked On Canucks.

  1. So something clicks with me on this episode. I did like Dakota, I thought he could’ve been more physical and a bigger presence up front and came in with more energy more consistently.

However, Hoglander, inconsistent yes. But I do feel the attitude and the effort are always there. The guy had blood on his jersey every single game. Which says he’s in the dirty areas taking a licking. Getting some calls not getting some calls. But the effort is there. I think it’s a mental thing with him as well as petey. I don’t think he should be quite as much Sherwood as himself. I don’t think he has the same discipline as Sherwood and not take penalties chasing hits. He just needs to bring the effort, hold onto pucks, ofc be physical and drive the net and bounce on rebounds. Success is right there for him I think. Even will all the stupid looks from Rick and being talked down at some media availability, Hoggy didn’t give up even despite being healthy scratch occasionally. He was one of the first Canucks skating weeks ago already. He just needs to shoot the puck. Create chances. I really think Tocchet sort of hindered his offensive ability at times.

  2. The Canucks have too much invested in their 4th line. No matter who it’s made up of, they should only cost 3.5 mil collectively.

  3. Hogs could be used to get a guy (with more of course) for McTavish, but no one else is worth it, not even Rossi
WE are better off letting him play with Petey/Boeser all year, and then he is a 5M player signed at 3M
