Matheson would be acceptable ….. except, we should not trade Benoit he's only getting better and more physical. Robertson could be a one for one trade…..but that's my opinion.
Use Matheson on a trade for a top 6 player. including either Kampf, Jarnkrok in the deal.

Ya, I don't see this happening fellas. First of all, I'm not suggesting Benois is untouchable but look how this young tough player has evolved and look what he did in the playoffs! I love Benois and so do a LOT of other Leaf fans and I think it's safe to say the coach and GM both love him too.
The only way I see Benois being traded is if some team with not making the playoffs, going into a rebuild with a great top 6 player who would LOVE a player like Benois, young but experienced and could easily be seen as a veteran leader on a team like that.
Trading Benois for another defenceman, offensive or not just does not make any sense to me.
I would rather try and trade Riley, and that's not to say I don't like him, I love him!! But, the reality of the NHL or most any pro sports org is you do need to make tough decisions, but those decisions MUST make sense!
Riley is still a very good player but not the player he was, in fact, I would honestly say he has slowed down significantly and wasn't a threat in the past playoffs.
The team need two more pieces and you cannot, and I seriously doubt Treliving will, go after these two final pieces with any mindset less than we're after an elite, or semi elite top six, and really we need an elite winger on Matthews/Knies top line.
We also need a defenceman who can be an elite or semi elite offensive quarterback, someone who runs playoffs and is a threat to score every shift.
A tall order for sure and the task is made even harder because of the stinking rotting corpse, the horrific ghost of "Kyle Von Dubahan" who similar to count Dracula, sucked the life's blood out of the Maple Leafs after they foolishly invited him in, and neglected to hang garlic over the *picks 'n' prospects cabinet*!! You may as well have left a sigh over that door "HEY, VON DUBAHAN, HELP YOURSCALP, NO REALLY, ENJOY"!!
The damage count Kyle Von Dubahan did will haunt the hallowed halls of MLSE & $$$$ Arena for years to come!!

As if that wasn't a HUGE enough RED FLAG for the team to realise they made a terrible, terrible mistake signing a young (youngest Leaf GM ever) inexperienced home wrecker, and he had to go, then I really have to believe heavy alcohol consumption was involved…and a few redheads…redheads are nothing but freaking trouble!!
He went further and depleted our picks and prospects cupboard for rentals he couldn't keep because he blew the budget day one (figure of speech) he blew the budget with his inability or outright lack of knowledge of negotiating skills, the NUMBER ONE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF ANY PRO GM OR AGENT!!
If you can't negotiate you have no business being an NHL GM and I cannot imagine the reason he was hired in the first place, but NOT IMMEDIATELY FIRED!!

The trading of Benoit is utterly absurd; if Tree proceeds with this trade, he should be FIRED immediately. The foremost priority for Tree and the entire Leafs management should be Morgan Morgan and Morgan because is a matter of time this issue need to be resolved sooner rather then later,an ill-conceived signing by Dumb Ass Dubas. While Morgan possesses commendable character and personality traits, the day Dumb. ass Dubas re-signed him was a monumental error. If Morgan insists on remaining with the team, buying him out may be the only viable option. I hope he will act with dignity and accept a trade, rather than shamelessly clinging to his position, especially when the majority of fans wish to see him depart.
Moreover, it is widely acknowledged among hockey aficionados that a $7.5 million cap hit for a player not on the power play and arguably the least defensively proficient among the seven defenders is simply untenable for the Leafs to afford in cap room being tight. Is Tree's priority to persuade Morgan to submit a list of five teams for a potential trade? The situation has become increasingly untenable, largely due to Dumb Ass Dubas's mismanagement.
Additionally, Dumb Ass Dubas's signing of Calle Järnkrok has proven to be futile, and Tree needs to part ways with him. The same applies to David Kampf, whose deal was finalized prior to Dubas's termination, and Robertson, a player Dubas selected with an early pick, whose contributions have not justified even a fourth-round selection now from other GM. These four players—44, 19, 64, and 89—should be bundled and traded back to Dubas, offering him an opportunity to demonstrate that he is not among the most inept general managers of the past three decades who mistakenly perceives himself as a genius.

One free agent I think the Tree should look into is Victor Olofsson. He is a free agent and he has the best +/- of the current free agents plus 17 and had 29 points in 56 games. We could probably get him for 1 million. That was his last cap hit.
A GM's job is to improve the team. If Treliving thinks this will make the Leafs better he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't look at it. I'm all for getting rid of Robertson, but not sure I want to move Benoit. Is Matheson better than Benoit is the main question? Does Benoit intend to resign with the Leafs at a reasonable rate when his contract is up? You don't want another Marner situation.
Benoit was one of the few leafs that showed up last playoffs run. He was gritty, big hitting etc. he’s also a big dude. Size and grit is what the leafs need for playoffs. Yes I understand the insurance policy on offensive support from defence but I’d look at OEL or Riley before benoit to either chip in more or move.

Leafs require more size and toughness to compete with the Panthers! Toronto must move on from Kampf, Jarnkrok, Robertson, and Reilly. Character, impact players who know how to "WIN", imperative in the Leafs locker room, in the Fall.
