  1. The advanced metrics paint a VERY nice picture of Struble (2:25)… Do you think he will reach those numbers again this year?

  2. Strubble too small and makes many mistakes on ice. Habs need more players like xhekaj. You can have all the speed but if your easily bumped off the puck like a fly what good is that. Players f opposite team intimidated when xhekaj on ice. St louis a clown for not playing him more.

  3. We cannot go wrong with all these choices and depth in the defense! There is a lot of room for experimentation. It is really too bad that we are not thinking about moving Arber Xhekaj to a fourth line wing who could play defense (say the way Plekanec did when needed). In that role, he could be awesome to shutdown another team's line and to provide the physical play more liberally, free from the defensive leash (hits, protecting the small guys, etc.)… Also, I agree that Veleno is a great depth add that will improve our center problem without necessarily being the silver bullet. It is more than just his experience, but what I see as a desire to come home and play in Montreal. I bet he works hard to try to keep that position as long as he can. I think the drive will make him perform better than expected, as long as he deals with the pressure of playing in a real hockey city… Bottom line, you don't have to be packed with stars as long as everyone understand their roles and performs it as expected.

  4. This is a 'prove it' bridge deal. He possesses the talent and desire to refine his game. The chip on his shoulder and his drive to thrive will prove his value. He will likely sign his next contract for 4 – 5 million.

  5. A wise former GM once said, “You can’t have too many defencemen.” I think we can officially add this to the list of other stuff he was wrong about. I’m all for organizational depth, but you gotta give the kids on the farm some daylight or they’ll start to get squirrelly…

  6. Struble reminds me of a bigger Frank Bouillon. He tilts the ice with his stellar defensive acumen and outsized physical play. He's an underrated complementary player who fits nicely on this team and I wouldn't be surprised to see him with Hutson again this season.

  7. Reinbacher is the 1st or 2nd pairing D….. Guhle/Dobson, Hutson/?…. This is where Montreal see Reinbacher, either this year or next…. If it happens to be out of training camp that he makes the team, you will see trades before the season starts, we all have to remember before that whatever we want to call injury in last year exhibition game, he was impressive and was penciled in to start the season in Montreal…since we have no idea how his summer is going… he could win the spot and force some trades

  8. Who is the better overall D … Struble or Xhekaj…if Struble uses his physical strength more consistently, the 3rd paring will be more formidable…but remember Engstrom, he is the wildcard in this puzzle 6’2 195lbs, better skater, more offensively gifted and 2 years younger than both Xhekaj and Struble

  9. He will be easy to move after this… He plays like a child… but perhaps he will come into his own!? Some team will pick him up… At this point he looks like a nursed trade piece. He is low IQ hockey. If Montreal loved him – could have been signed longer – and cheap.. At this point Montreal organization agrees with me! He should stop being a child, or you will packaged and sent out of town.

  10. I think that Hughes is making another big deal before the season starts…package of players to get 2C…

  11. Our Defense will work its self out in the first month or so into the season… granted everyone gets sufficient ice time to prove themselves. Arber hasn't had a fair go at it yet so far, in my opinion, but i hope he's working day and night on his game so we can have him on the ice more. I agree 100% the leauge is scared of him. We gotta have a couple guys that will stick up for the little guys we have, or we will never be a post season threat ! Matheson has to go and there is no better time than the present imo ! Make room haha

  12. Oh, and great job signing Struble to that contract, the guy is steady Eddy back there i think ! And if he doesn't work out, easy trade piece at that cap hit. Big year this year everybody, i think we gonna crush it !

  13. Let's move Xhekaj to the 4th line! It worked for Wendal Clark eh. Who wouldn't want to see Aurber on a line with his brother and but Thorpe as the third guy. Pretty sure getting pushed around in the playoffs will be a thing in the past. Be nice to be the bullies!

  14. Struble would be the most exciting developing defenceman on any team other than the Canadiens.
Some games he looked terrific but was invisible in other games. He needs to work on consistency. I like him but I think he is trade bait for a 2C.

  15. I like the signing and I like Struble but we have too many good LHD right now and with Dobson, Carrier and most likely Reinbacher (even if it is next year) on the right there is not enough room for all our LHD. Now that he is signed at a great deal with those metrics there are a lot of teams that will take him since he is a roster ready D man he should fetch a 3rd round pick or be coupled with others for something bigger. Preseason/training camp is going to be very interesting to watch the younger (other than Hutson) D-men fight for that last pairing. Keep the faith and Go Habs Go!
