  1. What helps is we didn’t lose Tavares as well – and Knies is signed up. Losing 100 points with Marner is one thing but it would have been impossible to navigate with JT going as well. We needed a culture change desperately and that involves facing these difficult decisions. I appreciate Chiefs work and Brad isn’t limited by Shanahan anymore, so I’m actually more hopeful now than I was last year 🤷‍♂️

  2. Before anything else they need to focus on having the grit to keep pushing for the win even if the score is 11-0 because unless that change's their never going to get anywhere. They can't crumble so easily when they face pressure that is how you end up an easy point for the other team.

  3. Top 6 have to play like it matters in the playoffs. Make the playoffs, then we'll see. If McKinnon, McDavid, Dasiatl, Kucherov, can do it, raise their play in the playoffs, so can Matthews and Nylander. Rielly can be a solid D on the PP and 2nd line.

  4. Leafs need a fraction of those "100pts" from elsewhere to maintain a playoff spot. What they don't need is 0 goals in games 5, 6, and 7.

Marner was offered 13.5m to put up 0 more goals in another set of elimination games. Denied. So instead…

    Knies – 7.75m
    Tavares – 4.389m
    Roy – 3m

Total for those three – 15.139m.

It's honestly incredible how for years the complaint was Toronto was a regular season team, and now that the regular season players are being weeded out, the narrative is about the regular season points and not the playoffs.

Did anybody care where the Panthers finished this season? How about next? Do they have to win the Atlantic to be a favourite? Weird. It's almost like the regular season doesn't matter and you just expect them to put up in the playoffs. But here people are talking about 100 regular season points for 13.5million just to win a division.

Marchand had more points against the Leafs as a Panther than Marner has had in all games 5 6 and 7s combined as a Leaf. Leafs have been to a lot of game 7s. Marchand was on the third line.

Good riddance. He can scrape 100 and then lose in the second while roleplaying as a ghost somewhere else.

  5. I think their bottom 6 has improved in the sense that they may give more support in the playoffs and chip in a few more goals. Hopefully that can go a long way

  6. Shannon you watched/reviewed the leafs series this year, and thought Riellys playing up to his contract? -3 in game 7 elimination this year, -5 across the florida series this year, -2 in game 7 elimination vs Bruins last year. In elimination games in last 2 years, he's legitimately been our biggest defensive liability on the ice while being paid 3 mill more than the 2nd highest paid d-man on our d-core – it's unacceptable. We haven't seen Morgan play to his market value since 22/23 playoffs (particularly since series vs Tampa). Give your head a shake for that one my friend, the rumor speculation around Rielly is warranted

  7. Everyone is talking about Marner on the PK…Leafs added Roy who will easily out shine Marner in that regard. 100 regular season points will be hard to come by but you can't keep doing the same thing in the playoffs and expect a different result. That is the definition of insanity. Someone of that core 4 needed to go and Tavares made the sacrifice in his wallet so that this wouldn't be him.

  8. The Leaf's fans in your comments section seem to think it will be all good. When they crash and burn the fans will still blame Marner lol.

  9. Matthews is not even close to the player he was even 2 years ago…………… this young man must have “ Cronic” back issues…………. Next season will tell a huge story……
Marner is NOT worth $12/ per,…………. Not even close!!!!!!
Toronto should have moved” Toepick” out while they had the chance……… Shanny fucked- up bigtime……..🤤

  10. With how the roster is built they need to move away from 2 huge scoring lines. They need to grind games out and wear opponents down. They have so many big, defensively responsible guys now that they could be hell to play against. Their big names can score timely goals to make the difference, but they can't rely on Matthews having another 69 goal season. I loved what I saw last season when Matthews was out. Everyone stepped up. You had 4 full lines of people who looked like they believed they could make the difference. They need to do that again, but this time for a full season (and potentially it won't just be Marner they're making up for, because Matthews just hasn't been able to stay healthy).

Defense not scoring is tough, but honestly I think playmaking is just as much if not more of an issue with them. They really struggle to move the puck. It's all fine and good if your D can maintain possession in their own zone during pressure, but breaking out has been a consistent problem.

Goaltending, no notes tbh. I don't know why so many Leafs fans want to stress about goaltending when more than half the league would absolutely kill to have Stolarz and Woll at those price tags. Most teams either have one guy, and if that guy has a slump or gets hurt, they're screwed, or they have several guys, none of whom can consistently start and put up good performances. Woll is an above average second, and Stolarz was undeniably one of the best goaltenders in the league last year. I can't see how you'd put him outside of the top 5 aside from games played (which was still not far off from average for starters, it was a rough year for goaltenders)

  11. I have a lot of faith in Tavares and his mighty amulet, but i can't see them do that well as a team without Marner. They were actually pretty mid during the Berube years, yes they became first in the Atlantic but it wasnt pretty. And that was wíth Marner, it'll be so much harder this year with Ottawa, Montreal and perhaps even one of Buffalo/Detroit knocking on the door. I think the Leafs are a wildcard team this year, unless Matthews has another Rocket Richard year.

  12. You suggest there’s some type of claim in Leafs Nation that we won’t miss Mariner’s point production & skill, no true fan says/believes that, we are well aware we will miss his offence, and have not come close to filling that void. When we say we won’t miss him, we mean we won’t miss his self entitled attitude, his agent & dads greed, his inability to rise to the occasion when it really counts etc. We’re ok with losing his production in order to get the right team mindset in order. It’s a few steps back, but the first step in the right direction.

  13. The Leafs have always used spare parts for their 3rd line under the shanaplan era. I'm excited to see Roy, Joshua lead the way, and grind down some opponents. Domi will be great on the 3rd line.

McMann Robertson Jarnkrok Kampf are all spare useless parts, hopefully Tre can recoop some draft capital and sign Roslovic in place of them

  14. The whole Leaf defence is a few years away from collecting CPP. Another year slower.
Tavares has to repeat a 30+ goal season and Matthews has to recover from what to appears to be a chronic injury or this team will be fighting for a playoff spot.
Leafs should remember what happened to the Rangers last season.

I can't believe Shannon is doing this video just to get clicks.

  15. Oof never realised that Stolarz + Woll played only 48 games total past season. That should scare the fans, they are bound to overplay of or the other and possibly not having gas for playoffs.

  16. Usually when you don't see points it's becuase a player doesn't shot enough doesn't take plays to the net often enough and simply doesn't have a high scoring IQ.I would like to say a good coach can teach these players to fix their mistakes but there is no such thing as good coaching in the NHL just suits.

  17. The problem with the Marner/Matthews/Tavares/Rielly/Nylander core is the playoff results

  18. As much as everyone craps on Mo, he should have been captain, not JT from the start. Mathews has not earned captain either.

I know Mo has slowed down, but he's never been in a position to succeed. He makes 2-3D money and that is what he is. He is no a 1D.

  19. Matthew's line is not playing 'shorthanded' . 70 assists means 70 goals were scored by the line Marner was on. If Domi gets the spot, his minutes go up to what Marner burned. More time on ice with Matthew's and Knies means more points. If Knies has a better year, Matthew's goals go down ( if goals above expected stay constant). The REAL win with Marner leaving, is being able to afford a more competitive and productive 3rd and 4th line. Also, playoff results. Good riddance.

  20. We thinking Toronto will keep running a strong goalie tandem this year or use either Woll/Storlarz as trade fodder come deadline?
