To clarify, kraken ownership was looking to solidify the team in the market before the NBA brings the Sonics back, which explains why they felt they needed to be aggressive with the Stephenson and Montour deals last summer. I don’t think that fans are actually losing interest in the team, there’s just concern that if the NBA comes back to town before the kraken have another shot at the playoffs it might make fans lose interest.
So, wild thought.
Why is no one talking about Ron Francis here? He’s the GM who makes hockey ops decisions and forms the roster.
From his time in Carolina from 2014-18, his teams went 137-138-53 with no playoff appearances.
And now a team that had him do the expansion draft and formulate another team isn’t good and had 1 fluke playoff appearance in the last 4 years.
Is anybody going to say Ron Francis isn’t good at being a GM????
I agree with the @adamfletcher22. This team has to be good before the NBA comes to Seattle, or they will quickly become the 5th most important team in their city.
Do you even watch the games? Kraken had the most comeback wins in the league last season.
Comparing to Vegas is just getting old since it’s really just based on they had the same expansion rules. However, it fails to address what Vegas did and how GM’s wisened up along with the fact they are the only team to form during a global pandemic. Therefore there is no comparison to know how, if any, affect this also had. For all NHL expansion teams, if you remove Vegas, Seattle’s actually been pretty successful in their first four years.
Owners appear fine with mediocrity. Islanders comp is far too apt. Need to take some big swings and jettison the time serving 30+ year olds. Play the kids
Still more upside than Canucks in next 5 years
The Golden Knights were an anomaly and I think the Kraken still being mid isn’t that big of a deal. That 2021 draft looks like it could be up there for worst ever with your top 3 being Power Beniers and Mctavish. An all star player at number 2 there would have been huge for them but that’s not how that draft is shaking out. Wright just had a promising year with 44 points in his first full season and they’ve got some solid names in the pipeline. I personally think they should be tanking this year with it being a stacked draft but they don’t seem to want to the way they’re acquiring players.
The problem is goal scoring – there’s 2 goal scorers on the entire team. You have a team filled with 2-way defensive players and playmakers and only 2 people to put the puck in the net. It’s why their power play was terrible, it’s why their offense is boring, and it will stay that way until they can bring in some high-end talent
Both Beniers and Wright are more 2-way guys – they need legitimate offensive threats. McCann and Tolvanen are the only ones on the team. If they can bring in more scoring it will help unlock a lot of the young guys
They seem to believe they’ve done some of that with Marchment – but they haven’t really done enough yet, and I don’t know that they will have the opportunity to any time soon
If I were running the team, I’d kick Wright out to RW to pair with Beniers and just let the young guys develop together. Schwartz, Eberle, Oleksiak, Tolvanen, Marchment, and potentially even McCann and/or Dunn will be gone after this season. Let the young guys cook and let the fans get excited about it
The draft is conducted by the accounting firm EY you’re kind of silly for thinking a company with the revenues of $60 billion would be willing to take a little under the table cut from the NHL to fix the draft lottery
vegas was an anomaly of an expansion team, seattle is more normal / expectedly mediocre. also ron francis is a shitty gm and botterill is no better
Sharks will and should NOT trade away Macklin Celebrini
I love my Seattle Kraken it’s been a very rocky road but Tank Baby Tank we this is the only way for them to build the team. We love Joey In Seattle. I miss hearing Hey Hey what do you say from John Forslund. Ron Francis fucked up like super fucked up but here my team is. Break the wall down keep Fater Canner and let the young bucks play and give them meaningful minutes
Thank you for your thoughts on the Kraken as outsiders looking in 🙏
Loved the Montour signing but the term on Chandler term had me and Seattle Kraken fans wondering what the hell were they thinking.
Y’all are driving me to drink I guess it’s a good thing I have a tall boy already open lol
