How Does This Affect McDavid’s Legacy

Connor McDavid is the most talented player of his generation, but still hasn’t won a Stanley Cup. Two straight Final losses now hang over his legacy, and the clock is ticking. Is he on the path to greatness or to becoming the biggest what if in NHL history?

  1. I think the Panthers will be remembered for doing it more than McDavid not doing it. He has lots of time left. Ovi only has 1 cup and he wasn't in his prime anymore when he finally did it and nobody thinks of his youth and prime as being wasted.

  2. That's a heck of team in Florida. The Oilers got beat and out-coached by a better team and veteran NHL coach. As a lifetime Oiler fan I hope they can make it to the final again.

  3. Why he failed? Because he's human. Also because the rest of the team did like him – 2 years in a row. Something must have happened and those players are under NDA and can't speak it out. I do not believe that a team, like last year that comes back to a 7th game just dropped the gloves at the finish line when tempo is on your side. Exactly what we saw between Panthers and Leafs after game 3. Like there is "a call made by someone" who says "that's enough boys, you have to let the other team win" somehow.
But the real problem with Edmonton was between the posts. To manu "easy" goals got it, thx to Skinner not being focused. On the other side, Bobro won 2 Cups by himself.

  4. Story as old as the NHL. Team defence and spread offence beats single focus superstar centred offence every time. The reality is that if you contain the superstar(s) the rest of their team isn't offensively talented enough to pick up the slack. To a lesser degree, Edmonton has the same problem as Toronto.

In the playoffs, Florida had 9 players with 15+ points vs Edmonton's 4. RIP McDavid, unless he gets a better supporting cast.

  5. Oilers GM Bowman should be fired for not acquiring a better goalie in the 2024 off season. I like Skinner but come on. They needed a better tandem then Skinner and Pickard.

  6. Florida a deeper team, oilers cant afford depth like florida because of oilers two or three top players taking up to much of of the cap. They have the same problem as the leafs, not enough depth because to much money on to few players

  8. I remember when Edmonton drafted him, and I swear he was crying after they took him. Oilers take players who should be stars, and kills them.

This year I heard what he had to say to his team at the end of game 6 … I knew they were going to lose. If you talked to me like that, I'd quit too. Then kick you ass. He's a jerk.

  9. He's a great player but until he wins a Cup, he has no legacy among the greats that have several. I'm sorry, that's just how it is. You're either a Stanley Cut Champion or you're not.

  10. McDavid's legacy is still be written. But if he doesn't want to be known as "the greatest player to never win a cup" he needs to get out of Edmonton.

  11. McDavid won't win a cup until he joins a winning squad. TORONTO & EDMONTON are Canada's "darling" franchises but it DOESN'T mean that they're the best Canadian teams 🤷🏼 Jets consistently get more regular season points than Edmonton but unfortunately have had bad playoff luck (just one example of many)

  12. If you lose crucial games, you will have shit stats in those games, like c'mon this is simple logic and I am anything but a fanboy of this guy. Flordia did what they do perfectly, and no one player is greater than the team they are on. Edmonton lost as a team, because it lacks the depth of the team they played. End of story.

  13. He won a conn smythe two seasons ago for playoff MVP on the losing team. Very very rare occurrence. He really can’t do much more. Goaltending and a mediocre defense is why they haven’t won a Cup.

  14. 5:02 I do slightly disagree here, the 2018 Caps ring is very much held in high respect and across other sports, rings like the 2011 Mavs ring for Dirk, the 09 UCL title for Henry and the 2021 Rams ring for Stafford helped save legacies extensively that may have been very much hindered otherwise

  15. This isn't about McDavid failing to show up when it most matters. It's about how great the Panthers really are.
