Today let’s delve into the Colorado Avalanche, a team that once was on the cusp of a potential dynasty, but ultimately never got there. The Avalanche were far and away the best team in the NHL following their dominant cup run, but because of injuries, contract drama, and lackluster playoff exits, their championship was left window wide open, and their hopes of a dynasty a thing of the past. So today let’s breakdown and analyze the Colorado Avalanche and their playoff runs over the years, to see if their dream of dominance is a distance memory or still a possibility. Bros won a cup I don’t wanna hear it
I wish we would have seen an Avalanche dynasty instead of the fucking Panthers one
What’s injuries and the salary cap does….
Dang, as a huge Avs fan I gotta say… This was a very good breakdown of the situation. The Denver sports media debated if this was the worst post-season loss in Colorado sports history and a lot of them said yes. A sentiment I disagree with, at least in my lifetime… the record breaking Broncos getting blown out in SB 48 was much much worse…
Regardless… I am excited to see what happens next year. There is something special about the fact that the FO doubled down on Brock Nelson under these circumstances. Same reason they gave Landy so much room to recover as well as Nichuskin… vastly different circumstances obviously. Point being, they really thought this top 6 and the top 4 defensive pairings were perfectly well equipped to go the distance. But the Rantenen situation in addition to a remarkably awful PP killed them.
I think the Avs can win the next 2 or 2 in the next 3, but that's about it for this chapter of the core based on their dwindling prospect pool. But Makar is only 26 and Mack 29… Maybe they can get to that dynasty status after all. Maybe they get something great from Mack and Makar in their 30's with a couple bad years in between to inject youth and talent back in? You have to think losing with the team they built this last year probably killed that possibility though but you never know given how dominant Florida has been in the playoffs…
Laughs in Rantanen
2023: injuries and the disappearance of valeri nichushkin
2024: horrific lineup and inconsistent goaltending + suspension of valeri nichushkin
2025: fell short
Mikko needed to go with wanting that bloated contract. He is too streaky and a Mackinnon merchant. I hope he fails in Dallas.
Colorado could've won 3 straight. 2020-2021 and 2022
The real failure were the 2 seasons before the cup win. They had what they needed to see tampa in all 3 cups. Post cup they needed to retool. Last year stung, but the moves could lead to a rebuilt team ready to compete for several more years. Gonna have to keep dealing with the jets and stars as well as the up and coming squads
Well at least MacKinnon has one Cup.
WSH, STL, LV also fell short of dynasties. But yeh past few years we have some dynasties starting with Hawks, then Kings, then Penns, then Bolts, and now Cats.
Crap goaltending won't cut it.
2 words: Chris MacFarland
The avs have multiple cups I don't want to hear shit
Hockey is a strange sport, you would think when the A's had rantanen, makar & Nathan they would get more than one cup
This guys totally using chat gbt for his script. Unsubscribed
As a Stars fan, He's better than McDavid for my money. An absolute bulldog
As an oilers fan it’s even worse because they haven’t won a Stanley cup while being in the cup finals back to back. At least the avs did finally win a cup for Mackinnon
Game 7 was the most heartbreaking game I have ever watched as a fan of any sport
The avs will continue to be a cup contender but they don't have the assets to build the depth needed to be a cup contender again. What they build last season was amazing and it's unfortunate the playoff system forced them to play Dallas so early
Sports conversation is cooked when we start criticizing champions for "only winning one" and not just winning 4 because its so easy apparently.
Love the video man!
Colorado could just as well have won the 7th game against Dallas, being up 2-0 with 12 minutes left of the game.
Not sure why you keep referring to them as a dynasty. They won one cup four years ago. They've never got past the second round other then the cup year. How is that a dynasty or potential dynasty?
With the roster Colorado had they should have won at least one more cup to go along with the 2022 cup. That falls on Jared Bednar who is a below average coach.
This past season was theater. Chris MacFarlane trades Mikko Rantanen, his second best forward and a huge playoff performer, and Rantanen beats them in the playoffs. Rantanen single-handedly won two games in that series. Dallas has been doing this to Colorado for years going back to the Joe Sakic / Ray Borque era, but this year MacFarlane did it to himself.
This is all self-inflicted. Joe Sakic put together a great roster but the coach wasn't up to the level of his players. Now MacFarlane is screwing up the roster.
Avs really need Kadri back so they can injure the opposing team. Haven’t won anything since the other team isn’t decimated anymore
At least our team got a cup where’s Dallas and Edmontons
Crosby just join the aves for f sakes
This loss was basically 2021 again, they're going to win next summer and possibly repeat. The 2 years after the Cup win were injury carousel years after the roster imploded in 2022. Bad goaltending, bad center depth, and no captain. They finally fixed the first two problems a few months ago, and Landeskog JUST came back halfway into that Dallas series. Just like when they lost to Vegas in 2021, all the pieces are there but some of those pieces have only just arrived. They just need a full season to build chemistry, tighten the systems, and they'll be the monster they were a few years ago. Honestly reminds me a lot of the Penguins in 2015.
Their core should win at least 1 more cup or else it'll be disappointing.
You look like Tristan Casas
he should have more then 1 cup (as a canuck fan i hate the avs lol) but as a canadian i love Mack hes one of canadas finest but he fell short in Top accolades for whatever reasons…
The Avs are just getting started. First time they're healthy since winning the Cup. No huge contracts anchoring the roster down. It's go time! The favorites to win the West.
I just don’t know how you keep Jared bednar after that disaster
