YOU’RE WRONG ABOUT PASTA! Why David Pastrnak Is a TOP 5 NHL Player You Underestimate!
David Posternok is underrated. Still somehow after all this time, David Posterno is underrated because he’s not talked about in that Conor McDavid, Austin Matthews, Leon Dryidle, Nathan McKinnon kind of conversation. And he’s right there. He really is. And when you look past the numbers a little bit, it’s even more impressive what he’s been able to do in his tenure with the Bruins, specifically the last three seasons. In those last three seasons, since he signed that big um, you know, 8 10year deal, whatever it was, largest contract in Bruins history since signing that deal, 329 points in the last three seasons, 60 goals in 2023. And then to one up it to become more of a playmaker. He’s had 60 plus assists in each of the last two years. This year in particular was incredible what he was able to do with the support that he had around him or lack thereof. 106 points on 43 goals and 63 assists in playing all 82 games. For a team that finished in 15th place in the Eastern Conference, he still eclipsed a 100 points and 34 even strength goals, which is more than anybody in the National Hockey League. Even strength goals for one of the worst even strength teams in all of hockey. Like brutal in five on five throughout the whole season. Only 28th in goals for per game in the entire season. and he had 43 and he was playing alongside by the way it’s the second time in three years he’s been tied for or led the league in even strength goals he also did it in 2223 and on his line most of the season Pavo Zaka at center who’s a middle six winger and Morgan Geeki in his time the last couple of years he has turned Pavle Zaka into a 60point scorer and and he turned Morgan Geeki into a 30goal scorer who’s going to be making $5.5 million next year. Morgan Geeki, like Seattle, the newest team in the league that can’t get anything right. Seattle gave up on Morgan Geeki as one of the worst teams in hockey. He plays on the line with David Posterno and all of a sudden he’s a 30 goal scorer and 65% of his point total this past year came from David Posterno directly either on a primary assist or him assisting for a David Posternok goal. He’s underrated as a playmaker and he is underrated as a postseason performer. I’m not going to sit here and say he’s the best 200 foot winger in all of hockey. Um I don’t think that’s the case. I think he’s he he he was better defensively a few years ago and I think he probably still gets too much heat for the turning the puck over and not being an elite defensive winger. He’s not that. He’s never going to be that. It would be stupid to ask him to be that. It would be taking away from his greatest strengths to go ahead and try to be one of the best defensive wingers in hockey. It’s like it’s not that. No one asked Yarmmer Joagger to do that. You know what I mean? And speaking of which, in this brutal season that the Bruins had, at one point he factored in on 13 straight Bruins goals, which is a team record, a 100-year-old team, that was their record. Okay? And nobody in the NHL had done that since 1999. No one in this century had factored in on 13 straight goals for their team. And the last guy to do it, Yarmir Jagger. the NHL’s what? Second all-time leading scorer. That’s the kind of company that he’s keeping right now. And he is probably going to be the Bruins all-time leading scorer when it’s all said and done. Unless the Bruins mess this up to such a degree that in his early 30s, he’s saying, “I got to go out and get a Stanley Cup and I need to leave.” That would be the only way that I think would keep him, prevent him from being the Bruins all-time leading scorer when it’s all said and done for one of the great franchises in the history of this league. He’s dominant, man. He is dominant and he’s doing it even he did it with 113 points two years ago on the best team in the best regular season team in the history of the NHL. Like this is the dichotomy of of David Posternok and really the consistency of David Posterno. He got 113 points on the greatest regular season team in NHL history and then for a team that finished 15th in their conference, he still got 106 points. How many other guys in the league can you say that about? There’s only a handful you can say it about. Those kind of guys that could do what David Posternok just did are guys like Nathan McKinnon, Conor McDavid, Nikita Cooerov, maybe Sydney Crosby. Like that’s the kind of company we’re talking about with this kid. And yet there’s still people all over this game that are just trying to find ways to discredit David Post. Oh, he’s not a playmaker. Oh, he’s not a defensive forward. Oh, he’s just got a lethal shot. That’s it. Yeah, that lethal shot that led him to 60 plus assists in each of the last two seasons. That led him to 63 assists when he’s playing with Geeky and Pavle Saka and Elias Lindholm. Give me a break, man. Like, could could any of those five guys I just named do that with with lesser talent around them? Maybe. But we don’t even know that. Crosby, we do. Obviously, Crosby’s one of the six or seven greatest players ever to play the sport. Like David Posternok is holding himself in true like MVP conversation. And I thought he really should have got more of a look this past year for when you take in the context of what the Bruins have done or what the Bruins did last year and what David Posternok was able to do. And then there’s the myth that he’s not a playoff performer. I would have thought we’d put that to bed by now, but apparently not because people still look at the 2019 Stanley Cup final where he scored one goal in a sevengame series that the Bruins lost that they had no business losing. And so still people point to that and say, well, David Posternog’s not a good playoff performer. He was 22 in that series playing on a line with Brad Marshand and Patrice Berseron who you can say on one hand are two pretty great playmakers so maybe he should have been scoring more but on the other hand those were guys who had already played in two Stanley Cup finals and he’s probably deferring to them a little bit in their third cup final and his first at age 22. So yeah, he got all kinds of for that for one goal in seven games. I would also point to Leon Dryidle in the 2024 Stanley Cup final in his first cup final in his prime. What was he 27 28? He had zero goals in a sevengame series. Clicketity clackety. I can hear it right now. Leon Dryidle was hurt. So was David Posternok. So on an even playing field, David Posterno still got more goals in his first Stanley Cup final than Leon Dryidle did. And you never hear any of this about Leon Dryidle. He’s firmly in that top five player category. You don’t talk about him being a playoff choker even though he has also lost two Stanley Cup finals. Dave Post only lost one, but the point remains. So that one I’m not really hearing right now. He’s 22 years old. And then the people talk about the 2023 series when they lost to Florida. He had five goals in that series. He had a third period game-tying goal in game six and had the go-ahead goal in the third period of game seven because the Bruins can’t clear the puck when they when they’re down six on five. That all of a sudden means David Poster can’t perform in the postseason. He’s still got 87 points in 90 playoff games and has six game-winning goals in his playoff career, including a game seven overtime winner when Jim Montgomery, his coach, said Pasta’s got to step up. Pasta stepped up, but yet it’s still h you can’t perform in the postseason. And that narrative is not going to go away in the next couple years because people aren’t going to be looking at the stats. They’re not going to be watching videos like this. and the Bruins aren’t going to be making playoff runs. They probably won’t even be in the postseason in the next year or two. So, you’re going to continue to hear this, but just so you know, that’s a myth. That’s not real. David Posnock is a playoff performer, and he is one of the top five offensive players in this league. Yeah, he’s right there. Is he Conor McDavid or Austin Matthews? Not quite, but he’s right there in that conversation. And by the way, he had a better year than Austin Matthews did. No if ends or buts. He had a better year than Austin Matthews did. Like not particularly close, but like you want to put Matthews and McDavid and McKinnon over him? Sure. I’d hesitate at Leon Dryidle. I think they’re both probably about the same. And that’s not a knock on Leon Dryidle. That’s a compliment to David Posnock. So, like at worst, he’s the fifth or sixth best player in the league, offensive player in the league right now. And yet, do you hear David Posternok thrown about in those conversations? I bet you don’t. Do you ever hear about David Posternok carrying the load for this team? I mean, they would have been picking number one or two this year. They would have been the Blackhawks or the Sharks if they didn’t have David Posternok on this team. Did it make them all that much better? No. But he had a team that completely crumbled around him. Like I mean the performance before the trade deadline was pretty bad anyway. And then they trade any semblance of good talent that they had outside of David Posternok at the trade deadline. And he continued to produce that stretch where he factored in on 13 straight goals. That thing that nobody had seen in the NHL in 25 years. That was after the trade deadline. That was when he had nothing around him. He was still carrying this team. So for those of you who still think David Posterno isn’t clutch and isn’t one of the top five or six offensive talents in the NHL, you’re wrong. You’re part of the myth. You’re on the wrong side of history here. And it’s really too bad that the Bruins are probably gonna waste David Posox’s prime here because we are talking about prime. Okay, he just went through his age 28 season. Like he’s still firmly in the prime right now. And it does go to show that you get a a draft steel and a guy who’s going to be one of the greats in Bruins history and it’s the year before Don Sweeney takes over. That’s a Peter Sharelli draft pick at 25th overall at the end of the first round in 2014. Let me know what you guys think in the comments section below. Is David Posnock still underrated? I think so because I think he’s one of the very best players in this entire league. Let me know in the comments section below. Top 5 in Turnovers maybe !
I would say top 5 Offensive talent. He dragged the Bruins last season. Defensively he isn’t great but that’s not his job. That’s Zacha, Lindholm, and Bergys job
Also look at who’s playing with the other players, who’s on their line. Knies/ Mathew’s/Marner. Mackinnon/Rantanen or Nacas…. In comparison Pasta truly carried the load last year and might be closer to a top 3 Offensive talent
I think his game will age well since he doesn’t rely on speed
