Trade For Nazem Kadri🎉🎉🎉🎉 calgary has no leverage…..
We'll get a great deal
I hate how the media is always bitching about no quebecers playing for the Canadiens, then can't wait to trade away not only a quebecer, but a Montrealer who wants to stay and performs more than adequately.
demigod and hutson gonna cost infinite, we need room
I would add Carrier to the same situation that Matheson is in. I don't like either of those guys at 5th or 6th D man, and I don't want anyone taking minutes from the sheriff. Though, this does assume Reinbacher is ready to make the leap to the NHL this year. If he isn't we will need to keep one of them for at least another season or so.
I wanted to trade down and somehow get Cooley and Geeky.
That way we would end up with Guhle, Cooley and Geeky. 😃
They will let Reinbacker start in Laval and if doing good , they will trade Maty /dead line and bring him up , no need to rush anything at this point ☝️
I prefer Slaf over Cooley, for is physicality and is defensive side. On top of that, he didn’t reach is sealing on the attack yet. Cooley is good too though
Anyone shitting on the Habs for picking Slaf over Cooley. You can shut up already. Because there is a 99.9% chance you wanted Wright over either of them.
Honestly 1 thing the Habs need to do is trade prices contract. That gives us so much pressure of the Habs shoulders and two keep looking at the center market but at this point don’t give up the farm for one pls
We need to be patient with the next Hutson contract . No need to turn a big contract into a big overpay . Don’t forget 60% of his assists were secondary not primary & how will the rest of the league adjust to his moves now that they have a years worth of tape to watch. Not trying to be negative, just realistic. Patience is a virtue.
Cooley is a level above Slaf in talent. Total homer take, Slaf is still a project…Cooley could be your #2 Centre.
Matheson is a good value for his cap hit, but is a good trading chip at this point. It's not addition by subtraction, but a case of converting his value into a different useful piece.
To say Matheson didn’t have a good last season is completely wrong and shows a lack of understanding of what St Louis says about raising players’ floors. In fact Matheson had a fantastic season and became a MUCH better defenseman. Why? Because he became very strong defensively for the first time in his life, accepted his role on the team which meant his points went down, but he still put up good offensive numbers. Of course NHL people know this so his trade value is likely about as high as it ever has been. By the way, expect Dobson to also become MUCH stronger defensively this year, thus becoming a much better all around defenseman, even though his point totals will not be somewhat subdued.
Bye bye Bogdan
Who's the grinning idiot?
Don't forget Matheson's responsibilities were changed and that's got to account for some of his point production decrease.
Bogdan staying in Russia is absolutely fine imo. He isn't going to get a spot in Montreal and I'm sure he's not hyped about playing in Laval.
If we're patient with guys like this, we'll be able to use him when we're in dire need of a dman. He might be able to step right into an NHL role after more years in Russia.
There may not even be any room for him and Laval doesn't have a lack of dmen to develop. We'll be fine, I think for Bogdan specifically the KHL is fine. Zharovsky for now too.
Regarding Slafzilla being a winner, I agree with Jesse 100%. Keep putting him at 3rd on lists and he'll slowly start proving you wrong.
Can't wait until he's in his prime, either way Habs pulled off a highway robbery with Hutson, so even if Slaf ends up 3rd, #3 in a draft is usually still a damn good player. I think it could go either way still but I think NJD would have taken Slaf had we not and I still think they would now also.
Lmao if Matheson is playing to good he’ll fetch a haul. If he’s playing poor why extend him. Why not just keep him for the playoff run especially if we’re playing well. That’s not someone you trade. It’s almost like trading danault in the SCF run because he was going to UFA. absolutely not
com on dudes…. look where its coming from/ Scott Wheeler writes now for the American Athletic. Since owned by NYTimes its a heavy leaned American bias . Plus hes a Leafs nation boy. Born there. Wrote a book on Leafs draft picks. Wheeler placing Hutson behind Cooley let alone Slaf is laughable. Its like Tony Marinaro redoing the 2022 draft and thinking he would be unbias towards the Habs????NOT A CHANCE!!!!
I would keep Matheson.. My reasoning is this.. You can't go on youth only. You need veteran presence. I understand he's well liked and respected on the team. Young guys need mentors. Also.. Playing a guy like Math on the 3rd pairing is depth to the point of luxury. Finally you have to consider injuries to the top 4.. Hello Kaiden Guhle!!! Matheson can step right in and fill a top 4 role.
Do you think that a contract that would increase each year would be good?
Like 82m/8y but starting from 8.5m with a 500k increase each year, last year would be at 12m.
Just a thought i had thinking about Hutson's contract.
Just think, if Montreal would have taken Cooley, there would be no endless talk of the need for a #2 center.. fortunately, we have Hage who will be better than Cooley.
As for Matheson, trading him would undermine Montreal’s greatest strength: a mobile defence. Unless the offer is off the charts Hughes is not trading away one of the most sought after assets a highly mobile defenceman who plays big minutes and is a player who wants to play in Montreal. With Gallagher, Laine, Price and Anderson’s contracts off the books in the next few years, there’s more than enough cap space to sign this team leader.
Matheson is going nowhere.
Konyushkov isn't close to NHL ready yet. Ideally he would've played in the NCAA to gain muscle.
your nuts marty st louie kisses the veterans asses. mathison will play top minutes & stink up the ice again till msl smartins up like he did with savard!!! but he still hurt the team by playing them two on the pk
We need a 2C. Matheson could be a valuable trade chip in a trade to get one. Same situation as Struble, Newhook, Xhekaj, Dach and Anderson being possible parts of a trade package for an established young centre. hope Hughes doesn't spend any more value in trades that do not involve a 2C.
