Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico ask this question: Who is on the Habs 2nd line next season?

How much patience will the Montreal Canadiens show with forward, Kirby Dach?

Where does Patrik Laine and Zach Bolduc factor in when it comes to line two?

What about Alex Newhook and his role?

Or…do the Habs make another MASSIVE trade and go and get Mason McTavish out of Anaheim?

Lots to discuss. Let us know what you think!

  1. I have no doubt that Mactavish is not available but even if he was, it would difficult to make a trade with Anaheim because they will want to make a hockey trade, not a future one. They already have good young player in their roster and excellent prospects in Sennecke, Colangelo, McQueen, Nilson, Luneau, Soldber, etc.

I have said this many times in recent months on this channel but the player who may soon be available and who has the best profile for what Montreal would want is Pavel Zacha in Boston. I know it’s unlikely that they would trade with Montreal but the Gorton connection to the organization may make it possible.

  2. Hey last year Dach was saddled with

    One Knee Laine

    &

    No Hands Newhook

I am looking forward to what he can do with

Demidov – a play driving dynamo

Bolduc – a forechecking , hitting and shooting machine

    With all 3 cycling through F1 – F2 – F3

Bolduc and Dach working the boards, Demidov roving all over

Can be a heavy, skilled, playmaking balanced line

I think Dach was not ready physically last year and certainly was not ready mentally coming off injury

He needs to come ready both body and mind and Hungry for that 2C cuz he’ll have competition

  3. Great podcast as always guys! I also see Laine as playing on the 3rd line and 2nd PP unit. Therefore, will he be in a position to succeed ie score 30 goals? If not, then how about trading him now using a retention slot or go buyout route which would save Habs this season $4.7M which would put them under the CAP, excluding Struble's contract. My point, if he is not part of the future why not make a move now? Then, after Price's bonus is paid, he can be traded and Habs would have approximately $8.5M in CAP, after Struble is signed, to acquire a legit 2C. Can throw in a prospect and / or roster player. IMO it is crucial Demidov has a legit 2C as it is too soon to expect him to carry a line given his limited NHL experience.

  4. I don't get it ,if we get McTavish then the center position is full, what do you do then with Hage and Paupanekis,Beck. Stay the course let these players fill the spots.

  5. mctavish will cost reinbacher plus. he's not coming.

i sat, offer matheson, dach, and a 2nd for utah's barrett hayton. it's the kind of move hughes would make, if he can in fact make it.

btw, we're not getting kadri either.

  6. Anaheim doesn’t have all the cap space in the world. They have like 5-6 guys that are going to get big raises next season.

  7. A healthy Dach is the key to the cup. We're not drafting high anymore and Chicago, San Jose and Anaheim tank ever year.
    Dach is a 3rd OA 6'4" 220lbs he's what we need.

  8. The key for success is to unlock Dach, Laine and Demidov, but they can't play together. Crazy thought: play Laine-Suzuki-Demidov, then you got Caulfield -Dach-Slaf. This gives Dach every chance to succeed. It puts a lot on the Captain's plate, but if he connects with Demidov, they will also free up space for Laine. If it works, it would make the first 2 lines much more balanced.

  9. I don't want to play the false prophet but tell me why the Canadiens won't finish ahead of the Leafs this year (and don't tell me injuries ok)
If both teams starts the season with no major changes to their current lineup, I don't see why Toronto has a better overall lineup than Mtl. We are programmed to think otherwise because of previous years but it don't seems to be the case anymore. The only caveat I can see is if Marner was bringing the whole team down with his energy and now they're gonna be set free and hungrier

  10. Look we don't hold on to the farm waiting for Crosby for the next year or two and then never get him. Lets be serious here, if we have an opportunity to get a true #2 center you get him for the Love of All that is Holy. Crosby is a PIPE DREAM and if you did get him it would be for what 1-2 years. You all risking that he becomes available and pass on whoever it may be as a true #2 center for a long term deal 🤣😂

Also to have a $6.5 million dollar winger and a $5.5 million winger on line 4 is SAD in every way you can think. Waste of money and I hope Montreal can move one of them soon.
