WHO’S SCORING FOR THE RED WINGS? – Winged Wheel Podcast – July 20th, 2025

The Detroit Red Wings struggled at 5v5 last season offensively…has Steve Yzerman done enough to fix it?

Tune in as we discuss the topic and whether Detroit’s foward core can improve its offensive output around Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Marco Kasper, Patrick Kane, James van Riemsdyk, Mason Appleton, Jonatan Berggren, Elmer Soderblom, & others, whether Nate Danielson or Carter Mazur can factor in, how John Gibson and Cam Talbot can help the goal differential, whether Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, Jacob Bernard-Docker, and the defense can help alleviate the pressure, & plenty more.

Next, a note on Carter Bear’s newly signed ELC and what his path to Hockeytown is (by way of the WHL then the Grand Rapids Griffins) as well as the Detroit Red Wings schedule release, thoughts on trade rumors surrounding Mason McTavish, Yegor Chinakov, Jordan Kyrou, & other potential target for Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings, Bowen Byram’s deal, and more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

  1. We have effectively avoided major injuries for a couple of years. If we get hit by the injury bug this year, we will see exactly what depth we have.
Seider hasn't missed a game yet. And that scares the hell out of me.

  2. I wonder if the fix at 1st line LW isn't someone nobody is talking about. I hear Copp or Kasper. I thought why not try Berggren or Soderblom bc they could thrive? What if you put Compher there, rebuild his confidence, give him a place with talent around him like he had with Colorado. He could surprise, maybe if he does well you put him back in a center spot down the lineup after a while to boost a line that needs a shakeup, idk. At least worth a thought.

  3. The 1:03:00 convo about how old you need to be to remember the wings being good. I was born late 96’.

I grew up with them being good. But as a grown adult where I could pay to go to games with my dad or myself I’ve never seen them good 😭😭. The last memories I have of them being good is elementary/middle school

  4. I see Compher being off the roster by trade deadline. RW position seems to be shored up by Raymond, Kane, Appleton, Berggren, Cat if needed as well as Soderblom, Mazur and Watson. I think/hope Danielson is on the team by the end of the year; Down the middle of Larkin, Kasper, Copp and Nate with Ras if needed. This can make the C/RW Compher expendable as Shine or Lombardi can come up and be 4th line C if needed as well. The trick is to get it done and not have to attach a 2nd round pick.

  5. Hell not even the divisional games. The wings went 0-3 on the California road trip. Imagine if Detroit last year beats San Jose and Anaheim, suddenly that’s a 4 point jump.

Last season especially was littered with games Detroit on paper shouldn’t have lost against statistically much worse teams.
