Well everyone… It’s official. Mitch Marner will NOT be returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Arguably the most polarizing player in the franchise’s history, Mitch will be remembered for both the accomplishments he achieved, and didn’t achieve during his time in the Big Smoke. With the superstar heading out of town, we asked fans to share some last words for him and while some were wholesome… Others were not. All the peole who say we are hard on him. I sort of agree. We sre bc he doesn't show up in games 5,6,7. He has the least amount of points ehich i think is 7pts in 20 games like you cant have one of ur best play like that. Matthews also deserves some blame, but Mitch wants to make more than Matthews when Matthews imo shows up a little more than Marner. Like tell me a big Marner moment that happened in gam 5,6,7. You can't.
Imagine if he wins the Cup in his first year in Vegas…
The CORE 4 took over 50 % of the cap and were given every one of their demands and pampered by MLSE the Leafs had to try to fill out a roster with throw away players because there was no money left and fans still defend them , GET RID OF ALL OF THE CORE
Mitch with the most points as an active leaf in playoffs and regular season, out of the core 4, was the one to win the 4 nations. Losing a gem, such a shame.
I don’t care if he wins in Vegas I don’t wanna hear about Mitch anymore no accountability for 9 years is the problem! Admit you couldn’t get the job done inside of blaming the media and fans. And saying your teammates get treated like Gods. Leafs had a management that was to loyal and it bit them in the ass! Should have never been a sign and trade period. That Montreal series should have been the day they pulled the trigger! And I seen players leave and still donate and keep there charity’s for the community you must be in your feelings to cancel it, so the fans will cancel you out of their memories!

All I’d like to do is say that all the haters were the NPC’s of the leaf nation. He consistently outperformed every Leaf in the playoffs and they blame him for not performing in the playoffs. Well scoring in general goes down in the playoffs. You can’t look for the same wizardry in the playoffs it’s not realistic. He was an incredible player. Pleasure to watch him ply his skills. I’d take Mitchy over Mathews, or Nylander. But ultimately if he doesn’t want to stay —it’s best he goes. Honestly though the haters were an embarrassment and a stain on the overall reputation of Leaf fans in general as per our understanding of the game. But I guess when there’s so many fans you’re going to have to accept there will be an increased number of Cheeto stained underwear sporting keyboard warriors among us. Good luck #16.
When will they add his statue to Legends Row? If there's no space they can remove Wendel Clark and replace him with Mitch "Wendel" Marner and retire his #16.
As much as us Leafs fans are sad about Marner leaving the Leafs, let's be cool about it. Let's not be like the Islanders fans who booed Tavares whenever the Leafs played in Long Island. Remember how we thought about those Islanders fans that did that?

Always sad to see people in abusive relationships blame people for other's problems. Marner was at worst the 4th biggest problem; Dubas/Shanahan were absolute idiots when it came to team building, Tavares's contract was one of the worst in recent league history (he's 40TH among active players in playoff points/game… behind Reilly Smith). Matthews also produces fewer points than Marner while making significantly more.
But yea, blame the guy who wants out of the toxic relationship.

There’s no question that Mitch is one of the most skilled players in the league, in the regular season when the plate isn’t as rough. But in the playoffs, especially in the last half of any round, when most NHLers are playing tough and desperate, he doesn’t have the stuff to penetrate the perimeter. It’s just a fact, so far.
It’s not about making the playoffs for the leafs anymore. It’s about getting to the final round and winning a cup.
The past nine years 15 other teams get to the playoffs without Mitch Marner’s help. Sure, it’s nice to finish first in your division but the Florida Panthers of proven it’s not necessary to win it all, you just have to get into the playoffs.

Anyway you look at it that was the first Toronto maple leafs with most talented players they ever had ever since original 6.. and it wasn’t about winning it was about who got the $$$ from the beginning and became a cancer in the room who deserved what and you can tell there was a divide between them Mathews and marner hence nylander calling them whining bitches.. a team that could have been dynasty turned into a laughingstock

It's funny because as someone who loved Marner on the Leafs the last bunch of years I really wanted to blame this whole thing on his Dad and his agent who are both KNOWN dickheads. At some point though I have to look at this guy, a grown man in his late 20s, multi-millionaire, letting other people manipulate him to maximize a few more dollars. He could have been a top 5 ALL-TIME Leaf, jersey retired, statue out front, the whole nine – a Leaf's legend. And instead he gave it all up because daddy said so? Because his agent wanted a bigger commission cheque? Because his wife wanted to eat at fancy restaurants without having to sign autographs? So few people are blessed with the talent to play professional sports, and only a tiny fraction of those are able to be franchise legends – Mitch just walked away from it all and there is no one to blame but Mitch. He should have been a man, gave his balls a tug, set his sights on Leaf's immortality, and told EVERYONE around him to get on board or get lost. But I guess he didn't have the stomach for it, so now he's just another talented hired gun playing for the team that offers the most. F#$% you Mitch, I defended you for years and obviously I was wrong.
