I was in the Halak camp.
To me….Price was too much a hot and cold goaltender
Halak was dependable, consistent and when everything was on the line he played very well.
Back then it became obvious to me that Price hated competition, he didn't like to have anyone show him up. I never thought Price was a team player, it was always about him.
Montreal could have had a great 2 goalie system but Price wouldn't have it.
I truly believe that Price was jealous of Halak's play in 2009-10 being a first round pick at number 5 and having some 'nobody' from Europe picked in the 9th round at number 271 outplay him all of that season as Price's back-up.
I always said that Price would never be on a Stanley Cup winner, in the playoffs he was always the losing goaltender. In 2020-21 Price only came up big in the last 3 games against Toronto. Against Winnipeg & Vegas the team in front of him were rock solid and any goalie in the NHL would have won those games. In the finals Price played extremely poorly stopping only 84% of the shots taken against him. He let by so many soft goals and tore the heart out of that team who played their hearts out in front of him. Price was selfish and wouldn't let Allen replace him to give the team a chance.
To me Halak was the anti-Price. He was a team player
Had Montreal kept Halak their team would have done much better. Price would never even think of given Montreal a home town discount to make the team better. He was too greedy. That 8 year $10.5 million contract was a complete bust since he never even played. Price was too much of a distraction, on another team Price would never win a cup either.
I think Had Montreal kept Halak and were able to get better players while not spending so much on a hot and cold goaltender they may have made the finals and won a Cup because I saw what Halak was able to do in 2009-10.
Enjoy your retirement Jaroslav
Nobody talks about this… but he is the all time NHL leader in goalies who had an assist and a shutout during the se game. Just above MA Fleury.
Keeping Price meant that down the road he would eat a huge chunk of the cap space making it hard for the gm to put a competitive in front of him. Plus Price's off ice antics proved to be detrimental to his game.
Habs should have stuck with Halak!!❤
Halak was a heck of a profesional. Wouldnt mind getting him on the coaching staff
Never forget the stop signs
point is we should have drafted kopitar. thats the real story
Le printemps HALAK 🛑🛑🔵⚪️🔴
