CHRIS JOHNSTON’S ALARMING SIDNEY CROSBY & CONNOR MCDAVID UPDATE…

CHRIS JOHNSTON’S ALARMING SIDNEY CROSBY & CONNOR MCDAVID UPDATE…

Haha. So, everybody is going to love this talking point and everybody is going to love dissecting the futures of these two generational NHL superstars. Today, we’re going to be talking about Sid the Kid Crosby and Conor McDavid. Because as we had discussed a few days ago on the SDPN YouTube channel on the Steve Dangle podcast, not the recent episode from earlier Thursday, but earlier on in the show, they had themselves the CJ Special. former Sports Net and current TSN analyst Chris Johnston going out there and spreading the love, spreading the info, spreading the newest and latest scoops in the NHL as to what could be going on with a lot of these people. Now, of course, Chris Johnston does a lot of work elsewhere outside of SDP. He has his own CJ show. So, I will leave a link in the description to the audio or the video on YouTube if you want to watch the CJ special, but there were some comments made by Johnston in regards to Sid the Kid and Conor McDavid. So, I wanted to dive into all that in this video here, just kind of read, react, and respond to what was said by Johnston. And to help us out, we’re going over onto Spectre’s hockey from July 17th, 2025. L. Richardson uses the Specters hockey platform to summarize and paraphrase different pieces of NHL news and rumors. So, it’s a very useful tool for us to go out there and just kind of get the scoop as to what’s being said around the league. Links will be in the description to both the STP episode as well as Spectre’s hockey. You can read, listen to, and respond to all of this on your own time. But let’s dive into what L. Richardson and Chris Johnston go out there and say on Monday, TSN insider Chris Johnson was a guest on the Steve Dangle podcast network. Among the topics discussed was possible landing spots for Conor McDavid if he tests the open market next summer if he tests the open market. Now, I’m doing a very dangerous thing here. I am pre-recording this audio and if by the time this video is uploaded on YouTube and Conor McDavid has a contract, then I will look like the ultimate fool. But I’m going to assume that heading into this July weekend, Conor McDavid does not have a contract and thus I feel somewhat comfortable recording and uploading this video at a later time. Johnston, however, believes Conor McDavid will most likely resign with the Oilers. Nevertheless, he thinks there could be 10 teams in the running to sign the 28-year-old superstar if he becomes a UFA. The quote from Johnston says, “I’m sure it’s occurred to the Kings. I’m sure it’s occurred to the Rangers. You don’t think Julian Breeze down in Tampa Bay is looking at his long-term roster?” Said CJ. Oh boy. This is all on the precipice of Conor McDavid becoming a UFA, which is by no means guaranteed. I’d say it’s like a 0.5% chance that Conor McDavid ends up becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2026. I think it’s a lot more likely that he resigns. By the time this video is uploaded, maybe he is already resigned in Edmonton. Who really knows? But CJ labeling LA, the Rangers, and the Lightning as potential McDavid destinations, or at least teams that will try to target him next summer, should he be available. That’s big. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Okay, Lego, what the hell are you talking about? Like, of course, all 31 teams in the NHL should be targeting McDavid if he becomes a free agent. That’s true. But let us fantasize one year removed. Would it not be interesting to think about Conor McDavid going to the LA Kings, going literally down the Wayne Gretzky route? Who knows? He’ll find himself in St. Louis and New York at some point, right? Tampa Bay is hilarious because replacing Steven Stamos with Conor McDavid alongside of Nikita Cucharov. I mean, he’d be going from playing with one top of the world European in Leyon to another in Cooerov in the span of a few months. That’d be ridiculous. and they could play on the same line every single shift, too. Spectre’s note goes out there and says this. If Conor McDavid goes to market next July, he will likely want to become the highest paid player in the league. The salary cap for 2627 will be 104 million. A team can invest no more than 20% of its salary cap payroll on one player. McDavid could seek between $18 million and $20 million a year on his next contract. Puckedia indicates the Rangers have a projected $29.6 million in space for 2627. The Kings have a $37.8 million cap space mark and the Lightning 27.7. All have the cap space to sign McDavid. However, the New York Rangers would be bidding farewell to our Timmy Paneran as they cannot afford to retain him and still sign McDavid. The Kings could afford to retain agent captain Kopitar on a cheaper contract. I don’t think that’s going to happen. And I think the guy might retire soon, but could have a difficult time keeping a UFA eligible Adrien Kempe and Brandt Clark, who he himself will be an RFA. The Lightning could be the most enticing. All their core players are under contract for 2627 with JJ Moser an RFA with arbitration rights and winger Bjorkstread and Dman Ryan Mcdana as their only notable UFAS. However, signing McDavid even to a reduced rate of say 17 million because Tampa Bay are in a no tax state could make it difficult to resign Moser and resign or replace Borkstrand and Mcdana. Look man, I’m going to say this. The Lightning don’t care about Bork Strand and Mcdana if they end up getting Conor McDavid. They’ll just do whatever they need to do to work the rest of the team out outside of that. McDavid also stressed that winning the Stanley Cup means the most to him. Given their recent records, those three clubs might not be the best options to answer that need. Yeah. I mean, Tampa was so good a few years ago. LA was so good a decade ago, and then you have the New York Rangers who never did get past that hump in 2014, unfortunately. Sucks to suck. Meanwhile, the Oilers have been in the finals the past 2 years. So, I can totally understand if he just ends up staying. Let’s go over to Johnston’s update on Cydney Crosby. He joined the pundits who believe that Crosby probably will not finish his playing career with the Penguins. He acknowledged that no one knows Crosby’s intentions, but claimed the possibility of his availability is a topic of discussion around the league. Spectre’s note. Let’s go out there and read this over here. NHL analyst Pierre Maguire recently talked about the speculation linking Crosby to the Halves. He believes it would take a first round pick, a top prospect, and an NHL player. and a great one at that to land him. So, Habs fans, Suzuki for Crosby, Demi Dove, Hudson, how bad do you want to see Sid in a Canadian’s jersey? A Crosby trade is possible. As the old saying goes, if Wayne Gretzky could be traded, anyone could be traded. Whenever I mention his 2-year extension, some believe that it enhances his trade value because any playoff club acquiring him before March 2026 would have him for two postseason runs. Nevertheless, L. While Richardson of Specters hockey remains skeptical, there’s nothing to suggest Crosby wants out and most of the trade talk thus far sounds like wishful thinking. Unless something changes, he seems intent on finishing his career with the Penguins. Now, um, we can talk about this another day. I don’t want to dive into the entire Suzuki Demid Hudson trade price for Sid the Kid because that’s a little bit too much information for one video commentary. But Chris Johnston going out there and bringing both of these guys is up in the 30 not 32 thoughts, excuse me, SDPN podcast episode. I mean, it’s the dog days of summer, isn’t it? CJ’s going out there and digging some of the bigger and deeper topics and bringing them up to the forefront, talking about Conor McDavid with LA, New York, Tampa, and whether or not Crosby could end up leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ultimately, both of these guys are in situations where whatever happens to them, whichever teams they end up playing for in 2026, 2027, 2028, it’s going to be their choice. If Conor McDavid doesn’t feel like the Oilers are going to be capable of winning, then he won’t stick around. If Cydney Crosby has a change of heart, let’s say after the Olympics, after getting that super intense competitive gameplay, and he says, “Man, I want to go back to the playoffs, fam. We can’t do that in Pittsburgh. Send me away to a team like Montreal where they need a second line center, and they have this crazy bad schedule in the second half of the year.” We’ll talk about that more, by the way, too. Then maybe it goes down. Who really knows? But for now, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Chris Johnston’s updates in regards to Conor McDavid. Do you think the Kings, Lightning, and Rangers could be suitable options here? And what are your thoughts on Sydney Crosby potentially going over to a team like Montreal? How do you feel about these conversations brought up on SDPN? And what are your thoughts on the players at hand? Let me know in the comments all your opinions. I hope you enjoyed this British Ash roll 999 and bye.

  1. CJ isn't an insider just a plagiarist

Anytime a big trade happens Elliotte Fridemen tweets it and 3-5 minutes later CJ tweets it, CJ hasn't broken a story himself in his life, he's just cosplaying as an insider 😂

  2. Mcdavid is about as Red Hat as a Canadian can be. He’s not going anywhere near the garbage dump of America called California.

  3. Probably not the surest route to a Cup. Good luck putting a decent team around a guy who takes a fifth of the payroll. No thanks.

  4. people are nuts. Crosby is in his last years, Demidov, Suzuki or Hudson are not even in their prime. We rather wait 1 or 2 more years for a 2c Hage or next year free agency then trade 1 of our young guns. Anyone who think Kent would do this trade are plain stupid.

  5. Why dose no 1 listen to Sid? Like he has said over and over he’s not playing anywhere else even NateMac said Crosby won’t play anywhere else! Let’s all these people
Listening and reporting everything but what the man himself says lol

  6. Last challenge to you Sid , bring Stanley Cup to a Canadian city !!! Hint hint which one you should go to
