  1. I know Andersen is coming back but they still need more goaltending. Kochetkov isn't cutting it. Burns and Orlov are likely gone, good riddance to the latter. At this point, I'd trade Kotkaniemi for some late-round picks and a bag of pucks, or buy him out.

  2. The 5th goal Florida, Bennett got was one of those cheap goals that because the Canes in the power play couldn't take care of business that the Panthers really benefitted from timing and lucky bounce, that was just enough to not be offsides.
Think overall the Canes exceeded expectations from what I expected after Neccas and Drury were traded.

  3. Canes made one big mistake… if they hadn't done that they could have won the cup. That mistake was letting Trocheck go and signing KK. There are few players with character and skills like Trocheck in the league. And they won't find such a good 2nd center for a long time

  4. Kk doesn't help us but more importantly he hurts us. All season he was the one constant turnovers, a lot of mistakes. He doesn't even bring any offense really. Like wtf does he do?

  5. It was a great season. The best thing is we hit on Stankoven so the Necas trade is going to be an upgrade for us. Especially since Hall is a good vet. Nikishin looks awesome and will be a star player for sure. We have a great core of guys in their early primes now or even younger. I think we are at a place now where we really are only a couple players away and the great thing is we have the cap space.

  6. I will never understand why Jarvis did not get the surgery last off season. It was a re-tool year. Could have re-signed Guentzel. LTIR Jarvis for the year.

  7. Chatty not being in there was a BIG DEAL imo. He constantly improved all season long. I’m still proud of my boys. Progress was made after some good players left, mid season drama and injuries hit unfortunately.Hope I never see Chat throw someone like that again though. He could’ve cracked his head open.

  8. The core of our team is under contract for a few years. There should be tweaks that can be made, particularly on the defensive side. Brent Burns wants to come back. Maybe, but on a reduced money contract. He's not the player he once was. Neither is Dimitry Orlov. Alexander Nikishin is ready to take over. In free agency, I would sign LA Kings free agent defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. He doesn't offer much offensively, but he is a shutdown defenseman. Mitch Marner would be nice, but he disappears in the playoffs. Florida has half the cap space that Carolina has, so they can't maintain the same team that they had this season. Plus, with all the draft picks we received from Dallas in the Rantanen trade, we will be set for the future. I still feel that the future is bright.

  9. Carolina is currently 4th in the NHL in salary cap space $31,984,829 entering this offseason which for a team in the ECF is huge.

KK "numbers are not so bad ok see below"
    – he is currently the fifth highest paid player on the roster next year to the tune of $4.82 million 5.05% of the cap which is insane !!! Stank is in the last year of team control slotted to make $814 grand to put things into perspective. Don Waddell really made a bad deal here with Kk an we need to trade him for a used puck bag or just buy him out and spread out the cap hit over multiple seasons either way adios !!!

    Offseason Needs
#2 center / goalie of the immediate future if PK is moved/ vet RHD – cheaper deal in case Morrow is not ready.

    Goalie
-of the immediate Future which to me is not on the roster
Are we sold on PK or not ?? Anderson is not long for life regardless of his playoff run we all know it will be some injury keeping him out multiple games next year even in a reserve role and PK lacks consistency in his game which is concerning. However two goals both under contract for $4.75 million next year is a setup many teams entering the offseason would love to have.

    Defense-
I would let Burns & Orlov both walk in free agency Burns is just aging out his heart is there but the body is no longer especially with his legs etc… unless he wants to be on the second line with lesser mins / role adios to him it is a business.

    Number 2 Center / Offense –
I don't see us being big players on the open market this offseason , Marner of the Leafs, Bennett of the Panthers, Elhers LW Jets are about the cream of the crop that would fit our system and really we don't need another winger with Stank/ Blake/ Svech/ T. Hall already being resigned / Nadeau in the minors (see below stats) we need a number two if not number one big bodied center that we don't have.

Speaking of LW – Bradley Nadeau is ready at some point next year 32 goals 26 assists 58 pts in 64 games played would look nice in the top six rotation in Carolina next year.

A lot of decisions need to be made this offseason in Raleigh no doubt but we have talent deep roster on cheaper deals and we have a good amount of cap space should be interesting offseason loading Caniac Nation.

  10. I am shocked about some of comments i read here. Kk had a great season doing exactly what the coaches expected from him, skate, defense, no penalities. Kk made a mistake in game 5, 11 made some in game 1, orlov was a total loss in the first 3 games, aho a submarine the first 2 games, etc. Round 1 and 2 we played great. Reality is that the cats seem to have our number. This is not a player issue but reaches back to the coaching. I expect the coaching staff to figure it out and give the players a strategy how to play Florida. They did that for New Jersey and the caps but when FL came around we looked like Amateurs. As long as we do not have a concept how to beat FL on a regular basis, the outcome will be the same independent what players are playing.

  11. To Adam and Corey: for parasites benefitting from the effort the Carolina Hurricanes players invested, and as you are individuals that never played any type of serious hockey, you are very fast with blaming players openly. If you would talk about my players like that, I'd make sure you are no longer welcome to benefit from the team. If you have nothing positive to say, and there is a lot of positive to say and analyze, just shut up. The team did not fall short, ECF is an achievement – period. You gentlemen go back in time to beginning of the pre-season and revisit how you judge the team then.
I think you are a disgrace for your craft.

  12. “The panthers have that the canes have but you stack two superstars at the top of their lineup”. In theory we had the cap space for Gueztal and Rantennan. That would have changed the game. (but I doubt they would have gone for both).
