Heading into this offseason it was quite evident there was going to be some massive change with the New York Rangers. They decided to switch up the coaching staff and some of the players but a big question is, are they good enough to be a true cup contender?

Slide out Kreider, K'andre, and Laviolette. Slide in Gavrikov, Sullivan, and a bunch of no names. Yup that should fix everything! š
No chance. Not until panarin and z ban are moved at trade deadline, open up cap space, add grit and scoring punch after they leave. Still need more on defense, gavrikov doesnt solve their issues on his own. If you dont, shesty will wear down to a shell of himself.
This organization has difficulty drafting/developing the necessary cogs so theyāre not manhandled in the post season. Theyāre simply not big or fast enough to handle Florida or any of the teams right behind them. Zibanejad contract will haunt the Rangers for decades after. The Front office overrates their roster and wonāt trade them for bigger pieces.

Rangers should make the playoffs in a transition year, but are not a cup contender. Apparently the Rangers are still in the running for Bowen Byram, but the Sabres don't want picks, they want guys who can play in the NHL right now. Getting Byram would give Rangers a very good defense in front of Igor. Might happen, might not, because Flames can likely offer a better package likely.

Last year all the 'experts' picked Nashville to be Cup contenders. Teams play on the ice- not on paper. Last season- they had better forecheck analytics than the year prior, were HORRIBLE on the power play, and were abysmal in their own zone. Drury has made a conscious effort to have a LARGER D corps, and brought in the coach (with 2 stanley cup rings) he always wanted. This league is very even. I would be surprised if they aren't 15 points better than last year
Will they contend for a cup run…with Shesterkin playing his A game they make a PLAYOFF RUN, CUP RUN, no way. This roster is in a shambles after being disassembled by Drury. The Rangers will be mediocre for years to come.
