What people don't get that it isnt blocking anyone out. If anything itl make those players work harder to make the roster. There isnt any risk in this deal
Competition. It is good. Let the best depth win. Injuries occur.
Montreal Canadiens are waiting for sydney Crosby to announce that he wants out. Then Montreal will be financially able to take on his contract , making since why they signed him for 900k sid the kid coming to town… what do you guys think? Is this realistic , or is this a pipe dream .
Montreal Canadiens Receive:
Mason McTavish (C, 22, RFA)
Anaheim Ducks Receive:
Owen Beck (C, 21) – Two-way center prospect
Filip Mesar (RW, 20) – Skilled winger prospect
2027 1st Round Pick (Unprotected, MTL)
Let's make sure we have good chance to WIN Mckenna !!!
It is last chance he will have to perform to get a contract next season 2026/2027
A depth signing with experience is a good thing. Injuries happen.
There was talk of Montreal drafting local boy Joe Veleno with their second round pick at 35 (they picked Kotkaniemi in the first round). But Detroit jumped ahead of them and took him at 30.
There is almost no opportunity cost to this move so I don’t see any risk here. Another banger by Kent Hughes.
I agree.. this is cheap for a first round center that may fit nicely in the Habs lineup. Speed, size and elite potential. Better than an 8 million a season winger/sort of center. Go Habs, stay positive, we are in good hands.
He was also a client of Hughes when he was an agent … so Kent knows him well
🟦 Montreal Canadiens Receive:
Sidney Crosby (C, 37, 1 year at $8.7M AAV)
🟥 Pittsburgh Penguins Receive:
Adam Engström (LD, 21) – Mobile, puck-moving defenseman with top-four upside
Owen Beck (C, 21) – Two-way center prospect
2027 1st Round Pick (Unprotected)
He hits ?
Below 47% on the dot he’s depth that will most likely be waived
I was waiting for this video "Game breaking signing incoming "
Yes Detroit and Chicago isn't what it was. Sure if you give him good teammates he can clinched up.
Montréal will be a good team for so many aspects for him and solve a problem at no risk for the Habs.
the signing is so low cost and low commitment, I like it. I think he'll be very suitable 4th line center so that we can keep Newhook on the wing. The big question with this team is what will the middle 6 look like? I get that some fans don't care about this signing because Velano isn't a middle 6 player, but simply by adding a center so that Newhook can stay on the wing, Veleno does make the middle 6 of this team better. Still a lot of questions to be answered with this team, but Veleno is a depth center that makes this team slightly better than it was yesterday.
What if Owen Beck has a great camp
The bottom 6 is getting crowded, does this mean Beck is on a trade? Or even the young Xhejac, I think he’s knocking at the door, Kappanen we keep, he needs confidents
I still think that Newhook will be 3C.
what a waste, Veleno is terrible, still have to shed salary to get under the cap
The Habs are filling out a solid bottom 6. The younger guys will get chances with call ups while they progress and get NHL ready in Laval for 1 more season. But keep in mind what Marty has been able to do with guys who have the potential but cant seem to put it together. At worst, he goes to Laval to help them win.
At that salary he will be a good back up if Dach goes back to sleep and Bolduc cant play centre until Hage arrives in 2 years
Idk i feel like we have better nhl rdy in laval
Tone it down🙄
I think he's going to surprise some people. Gorton's team are psychologists, lol – he's picking up players that have all the motivation in the world and checking their history – coaches, mothers, uncles, everything and everyone.
17 back to back games next year. Will need to rest players. Will need everyone
1st line is a lock
Cole-Nick-Juraj
Then I can’t tell what the 2nd to 4th gonna be
I assume we letting Dach earn his next contract and he is 2C barring some trade to get a 2C
Demidov-Dach-Bolduc
Then 3/4 th lines …
Laine-Evans-Newhook
Anderson-Veleno-Gallagher
Maybe it’s 2-4th lines very even/situational specific minutes else the money is spent in such a weird way
Dach gets injured, it be crappy to have to move up newhook as 2C
Laine doesn’t make much sense anymore or he is really needs to get healthy to deserve minutes on 2nd and demidov
Demidov-Dach-Laine …
Anderson-Evans-Gallagher (he did score 20g)
Bolduc – Veleno – Newhook???
I can’t figure it out , MSL /Hughes still have some work to do
Veleno is BFF with Matheson and Suzuki and just signed for league minim at 25…
This is either a favor to our captain, or just Nick vouching for a guy who deserves an NHL spot.
Either way – At 900K what can we say, gives us a guy with experience.
