Who’s bypassing who? The Russians get excluded from international tournaments. By the same standards, the Americans should be excluded.
I wouldn't compare Ferland and Kane. If we're complaining every time the Canucks bring in "toughness" and "grit," we're back at square one. I think in today's NHL, that sort of thing can be overblown, but it's never a bad idea to have a guy who can score AND bring a physical edge to his game – as long as he's not taking stupid penalties in the process. As for concussions, that's not a problem yet. If anything, I would think Kane was partly brought in to help protect Chytil from getting another one.

They don't HAVE to do anything. They can bring up some Abby Canucks see whst they got coming up. Reward some Abby Canucks for their Calder Cup win. Grow their talent, they are not a contender this year and that is OK. Stop selling picks and prospects or they never will.

If players stay healthy, and some of the farm team players transition to the big team, our goalies stay good, the Defence are hard to deal with, and EP40 gets back to being at least 80% of what he's been in the past, we'll make the playoffs.
Half the team was injured for half the season plus drama, players slumping and they made out with 90 points. If a fraction of things go right next season they make the playoffs
