ELLIOTTE FRIEDMAN’S OILERS UPDATE: DARNELL NURSE, CONNOR MCDAVID + ERIK KARLSSON TRADE?
So, if you had seen the most recent video uploaded on this channel, you would have seen the conversation that we had about Elliot Freriedman and the 32 thoughts podcast. That’s relevant to this video. Because while it’s true we’re going to be looking at some tweets that were posted in regards to what Freriedman said on 32 Thoughts, we do have to put a disclaimer at the beginning and say that the 32 Thoughts podcast episode that these tweets are from was actually from July 6th. It was the last episode of the season and 32 Thoughts has been on a break ever since then. It’s kind of par for the territory with the off season and the NHL schedule, etc., etc. With that said though, the most recent 32 thoughts podcast episode from July 6th is 3 plus hours long. And so it’s not like folks like NHL Rumor Report have the time to sit down, listen to everything, and tweet about every single thing that’s said on the podcast as it said on the same day that it said. So I do not really fault NHL Rumor Report for going out there and making tweets weeks later in regards to things that Freriedman said because honestly, it’s like what’s changed from then until now, right? like especially in regards to this stuff, the Edmonton Oilers. I don’t think any of this material has really changed. So, without further ado, let’s get into these comments by Elliot Freriedman. We’re going to talk about some players on the Oilers. And then I also wanted to talk about a Travis Yoast piece from TSN that talks about a name that potentially could head over to the Edmonton Oilers. That is all coming up here in this video. So, let’s start off by reading Elliot’s thoughts on the Edmonton Oilers trade pieces. I think basically Edmonton checked in with all their guys with no trade clauses. How many of you are willing to go places? Arvidson said he was, which is why he is no longer an Oiler. Darnell, nurse, I don’t think he wants to go anywhere. Henrik not convinced. 32 thoughts. And uh one of the top replies says, “Henrik going to hate Bakersfield or the press box. They’re literally signing players to move these guys out. Putting a strong hand to anybody not named Nurse for some reason.” And uh yeah, this is where everybody goes out there and starts talking smack about the folks that made the tweet because oh yeah, this was said 3 weeks ago. This podcast is going to end before the season starts. Old news. You guys suck. Quick rehashing old 32 thought stuff. It’s not relevant or current. Be better. This is what I mean, man. Like, I do still think it is reasonable to talk about what is talked about because these ideas still make sense for content. It’s like, yeah, we have to discuss what’s going on with these teams. Sure, if it’s from a week ago versus today, what’s changed? Nothing’s changed. The Oilers are still the same team that they were. Maybe they had an extra signing or a depth guy in there once in a while. But hearing that Darnell Nurse, they might have asked him, “Hey, are you interested in getting moved?” And he’s like, “Yeah, no, sorry. I’m here to stay, baby.” That is kind of significant there. The fact that the Oilers are willing to go that extra mile and start talking to no trade clause guys and say, “Hey, would you be willing to wave? Would you be willing to help us free up some money? We got to resign Bard. There’s an offer sheet threat from Carolina. So, we’re not going to alleviate any stress on that. We’re going to go balls to the wall making sure we give him all the money that he needs. So, please, are you willing to go? Arvidson’s like, “Yeah, okay, sure. I’m out.” Nurse is like, “Nah, I don’t want to go anywhere. I’ll stay here.” And now we’re thinking about this Oilers team that still has that 9 something million contract albatross in Darnell Nurse. Speaking about big heavy contracts, let’s talk about what Freriedman said on Conor McDavid. This is what he said that he’s not worried about the McDavid extension situation. I think he extends. I just don’t know what the term is going to be on that. There will be no fight. What do you want? Fine. 32 thoughts. And yeah, I agree with that. I think that the Oilers are just literally going to give McDavid whatever it is that he wants. Connor has all the control here. It’s Conor McDavid. There is no reason to bargain. There is no reason to negotiate. If you’re Edmonton, unless McDavid is asking for something that’s literally not allowed, you have no reason to go out there and doubt the best player in the world. You have no reason to deny him anything that he wants. It’s Conor McDavid. Whatever he says goes. You do what he wants. That’s the bottom line. No fight. What do you want? Fine. Easy. But if it was Matthews, that tone would change. Yeah. Okay. This quote is like two weeks old. Nice. It was from July 6, folks. Come on. Now, just because everybody’s all crapping about in regards to old stuff, let’s talk about something that’s actually new, shall we? Let’s avoid Darnell Nurse and Conor McDavid and talk about yet another player who has a really big beefy contract. Could Eric Carlson potentially head over to Edmonton? Now, this article says, “Could a potential Carlson trade land back in Canada?” But that is not what the piece says. Travis Yoast posted this earlier this morning. Toronto, Edmonton, Ottawa is Eric Carlson’s next and perhaps final career stop again north of the 49th parallel. The article talks about the Pittsburgh Penguins. By the way, we’ve been making a lot of Penguins content the past few days. From all the Sydney Crosby talk to the Artur Sheilobs trade, there’s a lot going on there in Pittsburgh, but Eric Carlson still continues to be a pretty impressive trade ship in being relevant in all these conversations. The article goes out there and talks about how Carlson has put on some grim defensive play on tape in the last few years with San Jose and Pittsburgh. However, his offensive contributions are so significant, he is still a valuable contributor. Using goals above replacement as a unit measure for total production, Carlson is still a big-time contributor measured to his peers. He has been in the 100 percentile territory multiple seasons throughout the past few years. That’s not surprising. His current contract and the $1.5 million cap hit are a major problem. But if the Penguins are willing to retain a chunk of that, Carlson becomes an intriguing idea for a team looking for some offensive pop in the blue line. That brings us to the triumvirate to fit in Canada. Starting with the Maple. Let’s not go over to the Maple Leafs. Let’s skip over to Edmonton. Why Edmonton? Jo goes out there and writes about adding more offensive firepower to this Western Conference juggernaut would seem silly at first blush, but there are two compelling reasons to consider it. One, the Oilers might be able to solve a contract issue of their own as part of a bigger trade. 30-year-old Darnell Nurse and his $9.2 million cap hit have limited Edmonton’s cap flexibility, and his on ice struggles remain an issue. Two, McDavid and Dryidle still benefit from another playmaker on the ice, especially from the blue line. Using Evan Bousard as a comparable, McDavid sees a 5% bump in rate scoring when playing with Edmonton’s best puck mover. Dryidle a whopping 24%. If the financial numbers can be fleshed out, Edmonton has close to zero cap space. Unlike Toronto, Carlson could prove to be a fantastic redundancy for a Stanley Cup contender. Now, I’m just thinking about it like this. The Oilers made the gosh darn finals with John Clingberg on their decor. What more if they got Eric Carlson. Not to say necessarily that Darnell Nurse for Carlson is a move that goes through. We already learned that Nurse doesn’t really want to go anywhere. But if Eric Carlson somehow someway is an available option for the Edmonton Oilers, then we might just be on the cusp of watching Edmonton versus Florida part three in the Stanley Cup finals in 2026. I honestly do think that’s a possibility based off of how crazy this idea proposed by Travis Yoast could be, but the fact that it was written and talked about on tsn.ca gives us a reason to talk about it. So, I will leave a link in the description to this article if you want to go out there and read it yourself. It is a very, very intriguing piece that goes over Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton. Of course, there’s a lot of extra stuff here, so if you want to read it yourself, you can. Pittsburgh may elect to push this trade decision towards the inseason trade deadline or even as late as next season as the remaining years fall off of Carlson’s contract. He becomes a more attractable option leaguewide. So with that being said, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Eric Carlson. Is he a realistic trade target for the Edmonton Oilers? And also, what are your thoughts on the Elliot Freriedman commentary on Edmonton as well? Conor McDavid’s contract doesn’t seem to be a big deal. Whatever he wants, he’ll get it. And what are your thoughts on Darnell Nurse not waving his no move clause? Obviously, that’s not surprising. He wants to be a part of the Oilers. It’s kind of reasonable to see why he would want to do that. But the Edmonton Oilers are in a pretty tough spot salary capwise, especially if they want to go out there and add a piece like Eric Carlson. So, thoughts in the comments section below. I hope you enjoyed this British Ash 999 and bye.

Can't even buyout Nurse either… It's such a a bad contract.
Trade McSelfish… He's a liability on any team.
Darnell. Unless you're a hall of famer…..you don't get to stay in town and grow old…. not during prime time Conner and Leon ! We'll take you back later on…right now you need to start packing please!
Nurse is over payed, but you’d have to retain more than his actual value. Do we get someone for 5 mil that’s better
