Very Very Interesting Shaun & Marco…another great topic today
Wonder if the fact that the Habs fame team is so close to Montréal an advantage? I mean having to report to Laval, 20 minutes away, is a heck of a lot less annoying than having to report to a city 3 or 4 hours away for cap reasons.:)
Marco
If Montreal retains the 2.0m of real money on Price
Montreal gains 8.5m of cap on his contract
Team acquiring the 10.5m cap hit to hit cap floor does not need to pay any real money
Should be cheaper in asset / sweetener cost to Habs to move his contract would it not?
Rather than send a 2nd or 3rd rounder
I love that the biggest sell on Matheson is
1 He’s from Montreal
2 Is great in the room
3 Plays a lot of minutes
1 so what
2 the room is fine
3 played way too many
Can’t wait for him to go
Rather see
Reinbacher
Xhekaj
Strubble
Engstrom
Trudeau
All get a opportunity over Matheson, sorry not sorry
Suzuki, Ghule, Carrier, Andersson, Gallagher all great leaders that don’t produce primary assists on opposition goals
With all the Crosby talk, who do you think we’d be willing to part with? CC, Slaf, prospects??
MTL needs to get into a three team trade deal
Hi guys. I would like to know your pov on Laine? 1) He plays all year in mtl and get a new contract 2) he is getting trade at the dead line 3) he is getting trade before the begining on the season 4) buyout
Finaly, what is the value of the player on the market?
A team in a rebuild already over the cap is actually really sad. This is what you would expect from a stanley cup contender that is trying to keep it's team together. So long story short MTL has to give away more assets to get a team to take price's contract lol..good job by management../not.Nobody is going to take Laine unless you give them more AND retain some of that contract.
Savard retiring was a god send.
Matheson will be better than Reinbacher 5 years from now but no worries he is going nowhere.Byram already singed for 2 years at a cheap 6 mil per.
1. Matheson don't fit anymore, 2. Laine is in Bolduc's chair.
3. No room for Dach.
4. Can Newhook play 3C?
I really liked the conversation about Matheson. Habs fans are awesome, but we definitely aren't perfect, because sometimes, alot of the fans are so quick to jump on somebody. Sometimes it's easy to forget the positive impact that Matheson has as a whole in comparison to the negative. So I just wish the fans can relax a bit. Now I'm not saying not to trade Matheson, I just want the fans to stop the negativity towards players like Matheson and Laine. As for Laine, completely agree with Marco's take on the PP. Moving Laine in PP2 only improves the Habs PP as a whole. Laine just needs that one shot, and combining Gally in front of net might just be the recipe we need for PP2. We have a good idea of what the first minute/minute and a half will look like. But those last 30 seconds of PP with PP2 could be very dangerous with those guys as long as we have possession.
They have one move to make. Price on LTIR. Done!
Honestly I’m someone who was bashing Matheson since day one even when he got 62 pts that one season he’d get on my nerves but to be fair if he just wasn’t playing 25 min a game taking in such a heavy workload he was honestly a great top 4D and I strong believe he’d be a top 4 d on any team. I think trading him would be a win win for the Habs and him. Because as we see it right now Dobson and Ghule r paired together and Hutson SHOULD play with carrier because that will get him used to playing with a potential Reinbacher who has the same 2 way ish game carrier has which then means Matheson plays on the 3 rd pair. No chance. Matheson deserves ice time and I feel like keeping him honestly will ruin his value if he plays 3rd pair then moving him off at the deadline would be for a bag of pucks.
The price contract explanation lost me
Matheson playing a number 4 or extra D man role makes no sense. He will be top or 2nd line with Dobson or Struble.
I don't know if I'm crazy, would Arber ever be considered as a forward on 4th line? Not that he's a Tom Wilson however him bearing down on a opposing Dman might create havoc on the forecheck.
There has to be a team out there who is looking for a powerplay sniper like Laine. He doesn't fit anywhere on the Habs and he's on his final year. I don't see management offering him another contract. We got paid to take him and he raised his value. I'd like to see him moved.
For Matheson, it's a bit different. Guy went from #1D to a bottom pair in 2 years. He's also on his last year and unless he's willing to accept a lesser role (and less money) I don't think he wants to stick around. As far as the team is concerned, there's no rush to move him. Our D is objectively better with him on the team.
Hutson made a mistake early in the season when he lost the puck trying to dangle out of his own zone with no one covering behind him, which led to a goal. He also got burned on that trick play in overtime. But despite those moments, fans still love him…every defenceman gets scored on.
Matheson, on the other hand, doesn’t get the same leeway. When he makes a mistake, it's unforgivable. The truth is, Martin St. Louis leaned on Matheson not because he's from Montreal or a great guy, but because he was the best option against top lines: a smart, experienced veteran with the speed and stamina to handle heavy minutes.
He was clearly overworked and when you're logging that many minutes, mistakes are bound to happen. Scale back his ice time and you'll get a sharper, more efficient player. Plus, he's still a strong asset on the penalty kill. With Savard, Armia, and Dvorak gone, experienced penalty killers like him are even more critical.
People often overlook the value of veteran presence, but it's crucial for a young team like this. Just look at the Carrier trade… that move says it all.
No deal yet with Hutson yet…wonder why
Could Price retire after his bonus is paid? Would that alleviate the cap issue?
Not that it’s easy for him forego 2 million bucks.
Trade Laine et keep matheson, that my move
Buh bye price
