Casey Desmith didn’t seem like that reliable of a backup in my opinion I felt like his predecessor was stronger. Jake Oettinger is great in the regular season I wish he could elevate his game another level against higher competition like the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner out dueled him in a couple of games. I’d like Oettinger to be more consistent in terms of playing at a high level so he could break into the top 5 in the league. To be fair the defense in front of him has not been very good. Oettinger to me is a top 10 goaltender in the NHL. Wedgewood was well liked and loved in the locker room.
For the advanced stats, were those numbers per 60 minutes?
Pete gets a D? Im not saying he shouldn't have been let go for the comments, but he got the team back to the conference finals 3 years in a row. Yes it sucks to lose all of them, but guy deserves better than a D. Especially if you look at the seeding they have gotten. Compare the Stars team draws the last 3 years to Edmonton. Much tougher road! Edmonton essentially gets a bye week by facing the Kings every year. We get Colorado or Vegas
They were soft dude. And I don't really blame them, when you have a coach like Pete. How does nobody remember the other season when he threatened the ice time of players who retaliated because Pete didn't want to worry about possible penalty minutes? Pete held this team back with comments like his, I never saw a lack of fight from our guys, I know they're built for it. Hell, even Robo was getting after guys early on, but what happened to that as the playoffs went on? Why did guys stop getting justifiably upset when it mattered? There's a certain guy in that locker room who told them they shouldn't.. His name is Pete, and he's gone now.
Coach should have higher than a D for the Colorado series alone.
I'm good with a B for Jake too. All season, other fans would find a way to say he was top 2 or top 5. Other than wins, I just don't see how the numbers stack up. Some even have argued that the players voted him as top 5, not true either when you look at the votes. He has a lot to prove this year. DeSmith was excellent, and numbers way better than his salary. I'd give him an A. DeBoer gets a B+ from me. Would have been an A without the late season collapse, which is why I wanted him potentially gone. The Jake decision should have been made far earlier with him being yanked far more often so it wasn't so shocking for him when the time eventually came. That's my only complaint. When Jake stinks, he stinks and gives you almost no chance to win. Gotta yank him earlier until, or if he develops a spine. One of the mentally weakest goalies in the game. Tough to be a fan of, always smiling back there and blaming everyone for every goal that goes in.
B for Otter. He just didn’t look “right” all season. He managed to still be a damn good goalie, though, especially with very little effective D in front of him.
