Does Treliving need to take a big swing on the trade market?

With the Leafs having a relatively quiet offseason so far, TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SportsCentre to discuss if he thinks Brad Treliving needs to take a big swing on the trade market to improve the team’s roster, how much more offensive upside Matthew Knies has, and if he expects Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll to build on their career years last season.

  1. He does not have to make a big swing but definitely make a deal or two way before the deadline like Dec/Jan. And then maybe add a piece or two at the deadline depending on where the team sits.

  2. I don't know if they can do this or not… but the Leafs should move Rielly to Wing. He can be a 2 way forward for them, filling in that vacuum left by Marner's departure… if not they could think about having their RW play Defense every night… and just having Rielly play RW unofficially. Rielly has more offensive capabilities but he can't do anything when the blue line isn't covered for him. They need someone that can play the line on the wings for their top forward line.

The next thing is that they need to be better a forechecking if they're going to keep dumping and chasing the puck like they're doing. As well the whole dropping the puck back to split the defensive posturing of the opponents doesn't work when the other coach is wise to it… it needs to be used more sparingly… in fact that might be the biggest reason why the Leafs keep losing is their plays are exactly the same throughout the season.

  3. looks to me like the only plan was trade for maccelli to replace marner , sign marchand as a free agent , out side of that it was to sign fridge players to fill in the holes , they currently have 7 right wingers maccelli , nylander, domi, jarnkrok, cowen, robertson and pezzetta this forward group makes no sense to me , as it sits right now they will be fighting for a wild card spot

  4. Tree needs to wait until next summer with lots of cap available. This year should be a step back to take a massive step forward next summer.

  5. We need 10 players that score 15 to 20 goals on the team. Marner was only one player and we couldn’t get past the best teams in the playoffs. We need the bottom six players to be hard to play against and score some goals.

  6. Mr Treliving not only needs to take a big swing in the trade market, he needs to be successful. It is getting tiresome hearing how close he was to landing a big fish. Lets see what you have in your bag of skills Mr Treliving you have received the patience you sought. Now it is time to pull the trigger on a reputation scorer. Talent does not always equal victories as we just lived through for the past decade. The fans became so frustrated because these guys never met anyone's expectations or effort level. Mitch Marner never met anyone's leadership or effort level. This team now belongs to the two guys it should belong two. The two best players, leaders and scorers in Matthews and Nylander. Personally I feel like a preverbal fridge has been taken off this teams shoulders. From day one there has been a competition and jealously hiding in the corner of that dressing room. It was always I am as good as Auston and yet I didn't get considered for the captain. I didn't get considered for the highest paid player. Everyone talks about Auston and not me. It has been there and it was obvious. It was likely as much the Marner family as Mitch himself. The way he left the franchise was exactly the same way he played for this franchise. In the dark and selfishly. This team will be better in the long run. I cant imagine Roberts back biting Sundin or Clark being jealousy of Gilmour. But that is what that team was dealing with since 2016. I wish you the best Mitch, but it was tiem for everyone. Npw it is time to replace him Brad.

  7. If Tre, can acquire impact players via a trade, that will help the team next season, I say "go for it!" Bottom 6 players and 1-2 d-man, should be the focus. More size, physicality, and a winning attitude a must, to compete with Florida!

  8. 0:33 The Leafs from the 2010s to last season, under GM Kyle Dubas, with the blessing of President Brendan Shanahan, allocated disproportionately big bucks to each of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and John Tavares but relatively few good free agents to go after.

  9. Leafs should consider trading one of their middle 6 defence for a top 6 winger. Defense are hard to come by and they can probably get more than just a top 6 winger in return.
