Where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire, right? The Sidney Crosby storyline of will he stay or will he accept to be moved is not going away. Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico go over the chances that Crosby gets moved and if he does want to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins, where do the Montreal Canadiens come in and what would it even take to get him here?

What do you think?

  1. Crosby & Letang are coming boys

Letang full cap hit could drop Crosby’s trade cost

    Price contract needs to go

One of Matheson or Laine as well possibly in other move (s)

    Ghule – Dobson
    Hutson – Reinbacher
    Xhekaj – Carrier

Strubble – Letang rotation / injury relief

Letang coming off heart surgery won’t be playing 82 games & he may have more value in the room & practice with the young D than playing in line up every night during season

Crosby would help team get into Playoffs 💯 so they can trade the 2026 1st

where Crosby & Letang would both have most value would be playoffs

    Would

Matheson 8 team no trade or

    Laine 10 team no trade

    waive to go Pittsburgh?

Would these prospects be enough ?

Kapanen or Roy Engstrom or Strubble
Volohkin ( or another Goalie prospect not named Fowler )

    2026 1st ( top 10 protected )

    – would a 1st be required if taking on Letang at full cap ? Or would Pittsburgh retain 30-50% ?

  2. I think the situation in NYI also helps push the notion of the rebuild. The NYR rebuilt fast. The Habs are rebuilding fast. The NYI, despite everyone knowing they are about to suck, well, their fan base is excited.

Owners are probably getting sweeter on the idea of getting young talent, and cash in on hope rather than drag a half dead corpse to 9th or 10th in the division.

  3. a guy like sid would be invaluable for leadership purposes, he's good at faceoffs, and of course he scores. the problem is he's turning 38 this year and won't be around long term. and while it's fine if we get a stopgap to when hage is ready to take the spot, the acquisition cost would be enormous, still, for crosby. i can't see the pens accepting for less than hage/reinbacher, a pick, and a roster player. and if sid retires at the end of his current contract (2027), he wouldn't be around for when we are ready to win. this is not a move to be made now.

all assuming this is realistic at all, which i don't believe it is. sid wants to play his whole career in pittsburgh, imo. and instead of wasting our picks and/or prospects on a short term band-aid, we can keep them and have them help us in the future. we're not winning the cup this year, and we're not winning the cup next year. beyond that depends largely on how quickly fowler develops.

    he's not coming.

  4. I know its interesting and exciting but, even if he's available, do we really think Crosby in Montreal is a good idea? How much would you give away to get a guy who has two years left and won't be on the team when it comes time to contend. I understand Crosby's intangibles and that he can help the young players learn how to win, but what is that really worth – especially when you consider the parameters of the Canbadiens' rebuild.

How much of the future would you sacrifice?

Also, do you have any thoughts on Barrett Hayton?

  5. Tank God Marco. I'm so on the same page as you for the value of Sid the kid. Never Mtl will give a top prospect and a first round pick in 2026. For the same price, imagine what you can get?

  6. IMO Necas would be a better fit with Montreal than Crosby & Letang. Necas is the fastest forward in the NHL … I repeat, Necas is the fastest forward in the NHL …. He would be deadly playing with Hutson and Dobson feeding him on breakaways. All that is required is for Necas wanting out, or to be a vocal disgruntled player over their in Colorado.

  7. Bringing in Crosby and Letang 50 percent contract is a great idea. Filip Mesar Owen Beck, the Carey Price Contract Montreals 1st round pick in 26 CBJs 2nd round pick in 26 and Carolinas 4th round pick in 26 are all prime assests to make the deal happen. Good luck, Montreal. 2026 is your year to flourish. 🧩

  8. Hey D’Amico, are you going to fact check Alexandre Gascon who said that Montreal stole Zharovsky under the nose of the Nashville Predators? We all know at the draft that the Flyers had the 35th pick and wanted Zharovsky and Montreal traded to 34 to get him. Even the commentators said that the Flyers wanted Zharovsky. After the Habs pick, Flyers traded the pick to Nashville who then picked Rombach. Why is nobody in the Quebec media calling out Gascon’s lazy journalism?

  9. Picture a power play with Crosby, Suzuki, Dobson, Hutson, and Caufield. Opposing teams wouldn’t know who to cover first! And the absolute best role model for Demidov to learn from. A 1st pick and Hage? I'd consider it.

  10. Hi 👋 aa usual, great thoughtfull show, for the cost = $$ and prospect, the window etc i pass on sid and especially letang

  11. Shaun's trade offers come out directly out of NHL2k.
    1st 2006 + Hage/Reinbacher/Slafkovsky for 1-3 years of 38 years old NTC Crosby is I N S A N E. Georges Laraque type of trade offers lol!

  12. is it a completely crazy idea to think maybe Malkin would be a better target for us to come over as a 2C? this lets Crosby finish guys carreer as a pen and gets a russian 2c to come help Demidov aclimatize to the nhl? is that completely crazy?

  13. Obv it will be Sid’s choice, but Dubas would love to get back at the Leafs too if he had any input

  14. If Pens are loading up for the next first round pick, give them a first round pick and a potential "diamond in the rough" prospect. Sid will be valuable to the Habs for at least three years.

  15. Logically it doesn’t make sense with the Habs timeline. However, it’s Sidney effing Crosby. He instantly becomes our top offensive player, he’s a lefty, brings leadership, great on draws, prints money for the Molsons etc, we all know what he brings. I would trade anything that doesn’t include any of our core, hage or reinbacher – does that get it done ? Doubtful…. But my fantasy brain would love too see it. Throw Malkin in too Dubas, do the habs a solid

  16. Send 1st, roy and matheson back for Crosby. Or 2nds plus roy for Gino or
1st in 26 2nds roy and Matheson crosby and malkin. My ea sports trade.. lol
