Not happening. Crosby will want a shot at a Cup. He won’t get that in Canada. If anything, he’ll go to an American contender.

I hate summer we always get the dumbest rumors and slop articles until pre-season start.. Kent Hughes wouldn't even pick up the phone for this unless Dubas was so desperate to tank he'd gift them to us for "free".
They're 37 and 38 and we're planning long term. There's at least 400 players in that league that are more likely to land in Montreal before camp and it's even more likely that Kent doesn't make any moves until trade deadline.

Those two are the last thing the Habs need, unless the come for free. Both are in the twilight of their careers and are overpaid, it would be a grave mistake to disrupt what Gorton and Hughes have focused on for the last 3 years. If they were on the cusp of winning a Stanley Cup maybe, but that’s not the case. This would be a bad bad deal. 😢

As for any trade that includes letang, Pens would have to eat at last half of letangs entire contract . His full contract doesn’t work with our roster. And I don’t think we even need him. They would also have to take prices ltir contract then its their job to pawn it off if they need to. And Matheson back or they can flip him.
I saw a documentary once about guys trying to bring back dinosaurs. They spared no expense.

This would be the worst thing MTL could possibly do. Even if Sid were to come here at the bargain basement price of $4 mill é year, we do not need him here. A) Nick Suzuki is just coming into his own as captain, he would naturally defer to crosby and that would be no good for the dynamics of team at all. B) MTL needs to get rid of Price contract, not take on others. We have no need for Letang either. The Habs are on the right track with their youth and prospects.

I dont see any reason why MTL would give up “important” prospects to get end of career players, no matter if its Crosby. It they can acquire them from free agency or to help Pittsburgh tank for Mackenna, but without giving up too much in return. I’m sure these two players would be great mentors for the kids. Similar to Price and Weber have been to Suzuki and Caufield.
Trading Price and Laine for their contracts and Laine’s potential trade value at the end of this season if he gets scoring again. plus a few picks and a few prospects that might be log-jammed because of similar other prosepects in MTL to Pittsburgh could help both teams. Most of the drafted players in the last 2-3 seasons will probably never play in MTL. Maybe players like Mesar, Roy, Farrel, Kidney are all similar type players MTL can spare and Pittsburgh use and give real chances to them in the NHL.
Lets face it, Crosby is not winning in Pittsburgh, and if they dont move him, its hard to tank with him in the roster. And they need to tank for their furure. Its just the way it is (they tanked for Crosby and Malkin back in the day)
