  1. Quay's PFF rating last year was virtually the same as McDuffie's, both scoring as below average off ball linebackers. Andy's weekly rankings have said the same about Walker, for three seasons. Andy's Packers Pointillism is what I value most about him, each dot of data and observation, each play grade, creating a composite. But with Quay, instead of looking at the entire picture, he's zoomed-in on a couple of dots. In the SF game, the week following Andy throwing up his hands with the Quay experiment, Walker scored a 91 on PFF by mugging the A-gap successfully a couple times against…Brandon Allen in a blow-out. Two games later, he's out with an injury. In the Eagles playoff game, he was back to his old self, and the Eagles knew they didn't need to block him on some plays because Quay would just get lost in the trash, which he did. If not for Walker's 91 grade vs SF, his PFF seasonal rating would have been lower than McDuffie's. Justis and Nagler are vocal Quay defenders; Justis last week even floated Quay getting $20 mil a year. I don't think that will happen. I think the GBP are giving Quay the Josh Myers Treatment, and the Nagler/Justis/Conventional Wisdom about Quay flipping the switch late season is comparable to the Packers declaring throughout 2024 that Myers was playing the best football of his career. Incidentally, Myers and Quay in 2024 had about the same PFF rating, mid-50s, below average. Gutes has surrounded Quay with guys who can do his job at about the same level or potentially higher, but for a lot less money. Simmons has had higher PFF seasonal ratings than Quay. Tyler Dunn did a nice long form-piece on Hopper's off-season work to make a jump, and Andy has noted Hopper as someone to watch in camp. Hafley even talked of giving Oliver snaps at OBLB. McDuffie's 2-year deal happened right after the end of the season, while Quay doesn't have a deal, and then didn't participate in either OTAs or mini camp. Unless Quay truly does flip the switch–consistently ball-out against top competition–I think GBP will look for a better Robin to Cooper's Batman. Andy was right the first time.

  2. Completely agree with Evan Williams at 14 and agree he likely won’t take a second year regression. He has an excellent teacher in X keeping him on his toes and locked in!
