OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the Montreal Canadiens lineup heading into next season… And discuss how difficult it is to acquire a 2nd line centermen right now. Personally, if the right deal comes along I’m in favour of the Habs making a move. However, at the same time, you NEVER.. Force a trade.. Let’s talk about it!

I agree. The Habs need to make the RIGHT move. Forcing a move would be a huge mistake.
IF Kaprizov becomes a URFA next year, give him what he wants. If not, go for Villardi.
In Kent I trust
Pump the brakes? No doubt. I thought after Demidov, they were a playoff guarantee. The Habs were already a scoring machine, with several “bundles of joy” taking care of business. Montreal is going to be a riot to watch in the upcoming season.
Another great video. Thank you!
A year ago I was discussing with a friend (Panthers fan so obviously he’s seen a winning team) and he said something along the lines of “Suzuki will never be a 1C, you need someone else to come in and fill that” obviously I thought he was wrong, and now after another season of Suzuki showing the league what he has to offer, my friend knows he was wrong. But considering we’re still at the tail end of a rebuild, the fact that we’re here saying “we really only need a reliable 2C and everyone else just keep progressing” when a year ago I thought we’d have to be searching for a 1C…I mean, shit man I’m happy
Junkie, you are making the GU11 stealth noises, not the white Gu11 aircraft noises. ha ha.
Give dach a chance. Pick up a rental at the deadline. Hage might turn into sonething. A caufkield gor mactavish would be interesting
no Kuznetsov please!
Not enough lefty at center
Kirby Dach + 2nd round pick + Mike Matheson for Jordan Kyrou. The noise is too loud for it to not happen!
Hockey Junkie, do you agree or disagree that they need a goalie?
So what do we think of Michael Hage ?
The rebuild is ahead of schedule! There’s lots of time to find a centre, this will be a good season but they become beasts next year! It’s a good time to be a Habs fan!
Many a rebuild has been ruined by a single impatient signing. Keep the powder dry until a great option manifests itself.
Instead of pushing for a 2C and taking a C or a D option, would you wait for crosby to be available?
Well said junkie , i totally agree we cant force it .
We must be patient. McJesus is only UFA next summer.😅
Damn. I'm no hockey savant. But, (Hockey Junkie is!😁)
I've been preaching exactly this mantra for the past few weeks now. One online journalist actually had the gall to imply, "It's OFFICIAL! The rebuild in Montreal is OVER!". A SPORTS BEAT WRITER actually said this, and they printed it! SMFH.
I went into it at length on Whiskylungs channel just 2 days ago, I think. But the overall thinking is that Hughes is still giving DACH a shot. It's the last year of his contract. And he knows it. And it's been said that management has basically lit a fire up his ass to take advantage of this opportunity. Granted, it would be a miraculous turnaround. Is his KNEES, FO%, +/– , ALL improve? It would be a great story.
But as you mentioned, when there's no deal to be made, there's no deal.
Hughes is gonna sit and wait for something to hopefully fall in his lap. All it takes is a contending team getting hit with a few injuries, and a major young stud could be pried away. OR, even if it's an older center, just someone who can help DEMI develop, cover on D for Laine, and hold the fort until HAGE hopefully becomes a bona fide 2C.
So, we fans, we need to pump the brakes on rushing into the second and third round of the playoffs.
Let's enjoy watching the youngest team in the league get better and develop into studs.
Heck, 4 of our most prized prospects have a combined 7 NHL games played.
I can't wait for this season to play out!
NO No No to Kusneskov
iamgine if Phillip Danault stayed
Awesome stuff man. Its such a hard role to fill right now
I heard Xhekaj has been practising to become our next 2c is that rumour true?
It's honestly not an urgent move tbh Hage can fill that hole in 2-3 years which is ideally when they become cup contenders
I have feeling that Kirby Dach is going to surprise a lot of people next season. The talent is there. Instill believe.
Yeah, Junkie, I guess it’s fair to be patient. It’s still a young team, and there’s plenty of time before we can realistically expect to be contenders.
Too late. HuGo's off-season is a complete failure without getting a 2C. Lost their entire PK unit, brought in a soft "top-pairing D"…and gave up so much depth it's mind-boggling. If we even come close to making the playoffs this year I'll be shocked.
Most likely the 2-3 weeks before the trade deadline will be a MUCH better time to pick up a proven 2C
Rn ~28 teams think they can make the playoffs. Once 6-8 of those teams know they cannot they'll be looking to offload players for futures
The Habs just need to be in the mix so that we're "buyers" rather than "sellers" at the deadline
That was no Seagull, that was a Crow😂
Getting a 2nd line center without overpaying is pretty much impossible. But I disagree that the Habs shouldn't force a trade. They absolutely cannot go with Dach and Newhook as their middle six centers. You can get away with Newhook as 3C in a non-scoring line. But you need to give your top6 wingers a chance at least. Putting Demidov/Slafkovsky/Caufield/Laine on Dach's wings is just setting them up for failure and possibly even derailing their development or recovery in Laine's case.
It doesn't make sense to overpay for a 2C, but the Habs can easily afford to overpay for a 3C caliber veteran guy, who plays a defensively responsible, simple game and can take faceoffs. I'm sure you can acquire a player like that by just stacking redundant assets like 2nd/3rd round picks and B-tier prospects. And it would most certainly pay dividends in the long run in terms of player development, and also because you can always slot a guy like that on the third line in place of Newhook once you find a bona fide 2C.
Kutnetzov ça veut tu dire mouette en rustre? 😀
Habs should aim for top 20, there’s a lot to improve on and we’re ahead of schedule
i understand why people are freaking out about the ''2nd line center'' but i think at that point we should just trust kent hughes and the process hes following also im tired of hearing about Kuznetsov the dude is washed, wasnt even a point per game player in the khl while playing with demidov so dumb to even consider hes still nhl caliber
It's important that Dach is fully healed to avoid re-injury. Also he has to be fully rehabbed after prolonged immobility. They can get by if he has to take time. If he is OK – fully healed, I think he comes back with a vengeance. Coming back to soon is a big risk for re-injury.
Jean Beliveau lost a lot of face offs –almost like he expected them. Because he'd lose the face off knowing where the puck was headed and followed it right in for a take away. Many times I watched Jean lose the face-off and immediately get it back and come out from behind the net with the puck. Losing a face-off isn't the end of the play as long as the player is prepared to follow the puck and get it back. Newhook is definitely fast enough to do this.
I'll do it, I'll be the second line center.
Seagull is. Party guy. That's why he had to go to Russia. Montreal is a party city so not a good fit. Too much temptation and bad influence. Maybe a sign and trade with Columbus lol.
The real 2nd line centre were the friends we made along the way
