On one side, Ritchie exploded into skull of Kris Russell. So that was a bit foolish, he could've run him over all the same hitting him should to shoulder. Probably gets a game in the playoffs for that. On the other side, how many more times am i going to see Russell getting crunched while watching a pass in close proximity to the boards. People finish checks all the time on defensemen behind the net on both forechecks and loose puck battles, but the message has somehow eluded Kris Russell as he ignores the potential for collisions in favor of watching the puck. Going to be the end of his career one of these days.
There was no elbow and I have clue what Simpson is watching but you cannot leave the ice to deliver a hit. That's an instant penalty. He could have made this hit just as hard and clean if he doesn't launch. They haven't been calling players leaving the ice to deliver hits consistently enough these playoffs. Ala Kassian!
You gotta take the circumstances into consideration. A hard hit from behind plus a charge on a guy five inches shorter than you "shouldn't be a penalty". What a joke
Game doesn't have players that allow for Ritchie types to exist. Bunch of soft players who don't brace for hits and admire passes. Ritchie will need to adapt and change his style. Finish checks on the fore check and battle in front. Stop taking runs at guys who aren't going to protect themselves . Even if the hit is clean , the league will favor the guy who got hit

wow
Still happy we didn't pick this piece of crap. Don Cherry is a fool, but that's not news to anyone.
I've seen worse, wasn't nearly as bad as other hits in the postseason.

Of course this happens to the only Oiler I like. If only that was McDavid…

Well that was all to the head maybe a game suspension but probably just a major penalty if he was actually hurt in the play.
"An absolute charge" are you kidding? Ritchie was gliding when before he hit Russell.
Russell was selling it a bit c'mon
Clean hockey hit!
just a hockey play if niskanin wasnt suspended this should even be looked at by the league
ehhh pretty clean IMO it's only bad because he was kinda crouched low putting himself in a bad spot.
Ritchie is a big boy lmao

Should have been given 2:00 for diving.
Take Richie out side and settle the score ,once and for all.
