[Applause] Center post set to dig on in and we are about ready to go. You can feel the intensity of this one. Total playoff atmosphere. We’re underway. Penalty coming up here. This is certainly not how you want to start a game. You’re behind the eightball. You got to kill off a penalty and you got to find a way to gain some momentum. The Bulldogs will have a chance to get on the power play for the first time this evening. First power play of the game and an opportunity to go up by one. And analytics will tell you when you score first, chances are you win the game. Oh, he’s caught him. Oh, that’s a thunderous hit along the boards. It’s bone crushing James. You feel that one right from your toes all the way up to your shoulders. Talk about finishing a check. Baltimore’s got a hold of it along the wall. Denise him here in the corner. He grabs the puck. Another stop by the goalender. They are really starting to apply the pressure here in the offensive end. Oh, thunderous collision there. That’s picked up by the knee move back to the neutral zone. steps across the line and on the attack down the right side. Great heads up play with the stick by Buork. Receives the pass. Getting a little too physical to maintain possession. They move the puck out of harm’s way. Well, if they’re going to do something with this man advantage, now’s the time. They don’t have the luxury of time, James, they have to be urgent and get the puck up ice. Moves it quickly over to M. He scores off the pipe and baling the twine. Well, it’s a game of inches, isn’t it? And this time, those inches, they work in his favor. They go right into the net. You don’t get many oddman rushes throughout a game, James. You have to capitalize on your opportunity. I thought they executed perfectly. They didn’t over pass. The right player took the right shot. After that power play goal, the coach is pleased with the unit because he knows and recognizes the importance of specialty teams. It’s a reason why they spend so much time on them in practice. Baltimore’s got to be pleased with the way they’ve started tonight. Look at this. Already the first goal of the game and just try to take that crowd out of it. Well, yeah, and that’s exactly what they’ve done. And that would have been the message from the coach earlier today, James, because you want to make sure that you set the tone, you control the pace of play, and you find a way to get on the board first. Jones has the puck and holds on for a whistle. Lots of time left in this period. The Bulldogs have taken a one- nothing lead. Baltimore’s won the draw and they’ll go to work. Quick pass to Grant. Takes a snap shot from the point. Sacrifices the body to block that in front. Moves it around along the half wall into the corner of the attacking area. Rhib’s got the puck along the wall. Fires it on net and that’s broken up. Slides it across. Shuts him down. Quick feed to Davies. Right up the gut into the offensive end. Oh, that goes wide. Hockey is a game of inches and you know these athletes take so many shots on net in practice and in this one just over rotate under rotate but nonetheless misses the net. [Music] Baltimore still got time here in this first period to increase this lead. Brownies won the faceoff here in the offensive zone. And here’s a shot. Still has possession. San Diego’s got the puck at center. Quick shot. Oh, look by McIntyre. [Music] [Applause] Entering closer to the midway mark of this period. We got a one- nothing game at this point. [Music] Off the face off, they take the puck. Great pressure with the stick into the offensive end now. Josh for the puck and it’s knocked away. Taking it off the wall by stopped by the goalender. Reaction time is so critical for goalenders because the way the players shoot in this game today, man, it is so tough to stop. So this one, instincts, glove goes up, makes the save. Official signals for the players to get into position and we’re about ready to drop the puck and they win the draw on their own end. gets the puck over to Ellis driving right to the front and that’s a smart heads up play by Espazito. Here’s a short pass to Domigo. Stopped by the goender getting a piece of that one. [Applause] Baltimore’s run the defensive zone draw. Takes it across the blue line. Takes the puck. Handles the puck at the point and he sacrifices his body to block the shot. [Applause] Puck is dropped and he wins the draw here in the defensive zone. Down the right wing and into the offensive zone. Shot. Oh, what a cliff save by [Music] [Applause] plenty of playing time left on the screen. We got one nothing hockey game on the wall. San Diego’s won the face off. Oh, stops it with a glove. Great reflexes there. Nice solry from the left. Tries it to the crease and officials right on top of that one calling for a slashing penalty. It looks like Lose is simply wanting an explanation as to why his team keeps getting penalized and just a reasonable explanation. That’s all it takes. It’s composed though. The Bulldogs once again send out their power play unit. They’ve already scored on the power play tonight, James. And if it ain’t broke, you don’t fix it. The coach has got them all ready to go, fired up. They’ve worked endlessly on this setup and man is it working tonight. Puck is cleared out of the defensive zone. Beats it over and that’s tipped away by Mur. Moves it to Davies from the right side. He goes to the middle of the neutral zone. Takes a knock, but he still got the puck and a great save and another stop. Man, is he ever quick on his feet, anticipating the play. Excellent reflexes. He’s saving his team right now. Here’s a shot and just got a piece of it to keep it out. They’ve really got him on their heels here now. Oh, what a save under pressure. And there’s the whistle. We’ve got a penalty coming up as the defenders look absolutely exhausted. Baltimore’s ready to go to work with a twoman advantage. Oh, the five on three opportunity. Sometimes you can move the puck around the perimeter looking for the perfect play. You got to shoot the puck. Snaps it on. Oh, he just got it. Look at that to keep it out. [Applause] tries will take the face off here as this man advantage is about to resume. [Applause] Whites gained possession and is great work inside the faceoff circle pays off again. Puck cleared from the defensive end. The Bulldogs scoop it up along the boards. They’ve got numbers in on the attack. Dishes it off. Oh my goodness. What a save there. almost freezes the puck and opts for the whistle. Gany side still short-handed here as they slide in for the faceoff. [Applause] San Diego’s won the draw. Big on the board. Well, he was so aggressive on this one, James. He recognizes that he’s got to close and then shoulder on shoulder. This is a clean hit and disrupts the player from the puck. That’s a beauty. moves it to Davies. He says, “Let’s get physical on that play.” Moves it quickly over to Pocket Pis scores. And that’s his first goal of this season ever. And he’ll take it. It’s much needed to James. You get to the playoffs, you want to make sure that your teammates have trust in you and you have trust in yourself because you want to be an impact player. That’s a nice start. Carpenters at the faceoff dot ready to win this draw the man advantage. Puck is dropped and we are back underway. Merc is going to play it against the half wall. They score. Situation critical and clutch. Well, they take advantage of the player advantage here, James. I love that it’s not static. There’s a ton of motion. They decide not just to stay on the perimeter. They attack and they’re rewarded for their efforts. Well, he certainly looks frustrated after letting that go in. James, it’s almost like a fielder in baseball. If you touch it, you should be able to stop it. And he gets a big chunk of that one. Unfortunately, it goes in the netting. The Bulldogs must be feeling good about their game right now. Up by one here in the late going to the first. Well, in their practices, they’ve been working on getting shots through to the net. And mission accomplished. They have been firing pucks from all areas of the ice, dominating in that area. steps across the blue line. RIP’s got control of it now from their own end. Didn’t mean to step on you like that, James, but look at that hit and it just took me off guard. Keeps a hold of it on the play. Quick pass to Nardella. Both sides mixed up for that battle for the puck along the wall. Great pass from the left wing up the middle now. Gets in front of it. Picked up along the boards by Grant. Great use of the stick in the defensive end by Wennon. He grabs the puck here at the point. Rib times trying to make something happen in the offensive zone. McIntyre is going to hang on for a whistle. O’Neal’s playing with such confidence right now and he’s got this point streak going. And when that’s happening for you, you’re having a ton of fun putting up the points. More than half the frame has been played here. Baltimore’s been the better looking team over the last few minutes. They’d love to build on this one goal lead. along the right side into the offensive zone and he makes the save. Quick feed to Gier. Sends a pass over. Great use of the twig as he pokes that one away. Curry’s got it in the offensive zone. Oh, what a tough save by Jones. Goenders work so much on their reaction time and man, this is just a clinic right now as he flashes the glove and makes the save here in the late going of the period. It’s a 2-1 game. Baltimore’s got it in the offensive zone. Loses possession after he takes a little hit. Scoops up the puck here from the open ice. They gain the line. Baltimore’s got him along the wall. Here’s a short pass to Little. Oh, great glove saved by Jones. Baltimore’s been the better team here in this first period. More shots and more goals, just a better all-around execution. [Applause] San Diego’s got the puck after winning the defensive zone faceoff. Now a quick pass to Mau back to the blue line. Here’s the chance to the middle. Another pass and that’s stopped. Davies plays it now down the left wing across into the offensive end. San Diego’s got a hold of the puck now. Moves it to Sanford and he coughs it up with the pass. Hammers the shot. makes the save, but barely with that one. [Applause] The officials are in position and both teams are getting ready as they get set for another face off here inside the final minute of the first here. Nice zone entry from the middle. Great defensive effort with the stick. The Bulldogs move it ahead. Browny’s got it in the corner. Blocked in traffic. Here’s a chance. First period is in the books. The next 20 minutes is on deck next here on EA Sports. Don’t forget to pick up your team calendars. They’re available in section 144 at the team. Well, a fun start for the night so far and still plenty of action as we get ready for period number two. Second period underway. We’ll see if that first period action carries over here. Well, Cheryl, how do you sum this one up to the first 20 minutes? San Diego’s had a slow start to this game, James. They’re going to have to pick it up in terms of possession time. They’re giving their opponent way too many opportunities and a lot of time with the puck. Here they come on the attack down the left side. Oh, what a save in front. And he maintains possession of the puck here. And the officials are calling a delayed penalty here. Looks like a trip. And let’s see what the definitive call is on the ice. Well, it’s been a one-way ticket for his team to the penalty box here, and he’s had enough of it. But you can see that he’s trying to hold in the emotion even though he’s seething because he recognizes that he has to maintain control. So, his team does. I won’t be surprised to see the 131 again. They had success on it earlier, James. And listen, I love this. I coached this with my team because I love the bumper spot and I love the net front player. You’re taking away the eyes of the goalender, but you can also pop out below the goal line and present as an option. So, multiple variations that can strike. And that’s out of reach and out of the offensive zone. O’Neal’s got it against the boards. Huge play in his own end to come up with the puck. Dishes it off. San Diego’s got a chance to work the transition game now. Shorthanded puck clears the zone. Moa quickly over to Nerdella. Comes up with the block. Absolutely fearless. Pumped off the puck. Here’s an opportunity to clear the zone. Quick pass to Grant. O’Neal’s been feeling it, James. He got the go ahead goal and now the puck’s on his stick and the puck has moved to a safer spot on the ice. Baltimore’s got the puck. They try to maintain possession inside the defensive zone. Quick feed to Carpenter. Oh, love the defensive stick work there to poke that one away. And they get the puck out of the defensive end. Works it across to Sanford. Baltimore’s in transition. He get all of that one. San Diego the horrible. It was that close. Oh, what a chance here. And that rush is broken up with a great defensive effort there. Sanford’s got it along the wing. Puts it on net and that calls off someone in front and doesn’t reach the net. Good hit to knock the puck loose. Great heads up play to punch it away in the offensive end. slides the puck over, sends it into the offensive zone, handles the pass, and he slides it quickly to Davies. Baltimore’s moving the puck through center ice. The Bulldogs played along the wing. What a steal in his own end. Steps inside the line, takes a shot. Oh, and that’s trying to shake loose. and he missed the net. San Diego’s looking to break out down the left wing. They gain the zone. Rip time. He’s going to play it from the corner. Here’s a short pass to that shot gets blocked by one of his own teammates. Dumps it in. San Diego’s got the puck along the wall. Let’s get the call. Well, it’s kind of hard to protect a onegoal lead when you’re sitting in the box and your team short-handed. James, the BK is going to have to find a way to save off the power play here and get the job done. Rip their power play in and out for the first time tonight. Power play that can even the score here, James. It is massively important that they create some kind of momentum in their favor on this one. trying to dump it out and he moves the puck across the blue line out of the defensive zone. Passes it over. Gets a piece of it with the glove. Pucks slid down the ice. Slides it to Espazito. San Diego’s got the puck inside the defensive zone. Takes the feed at center and moves forward. Oh, stop it. What a save on the play. And there’s nothing technical about that. That is all about the will to find a way to make that save. Incredible, James. Sends the pass over and they get that puck down the ice. Tries to get this man advantage going from their own end now. And that was read perfectly. What a play by Stman. Blacks it into the offensive zone and he takes the dish shot and that’s stopped by McIntyre. [Applause] [Music] again for the draw. This man advantage. [Music] Both of those taking possession in their own end. And they clear that puck. Little penalty is almost fired. Man advantage unit comes up emptyhanded and they’re still trailing by a goal. That’s a missed opportunity, James. An opportunity to get the equalizer on the power play. Now down by one at even strength. They’re going to have to find a way to muster up some energy. That one was deflating. Picked off by Rooney trying to shake the defender. He’s clear. Pass it across. Great save. Takes the feet at the back end. Right in front and off target as it hits the body. San Diego’s in on the offensive attack now. broken up by Witchow. Toss up the puck after that hit. He looks deep to M. with the goalender. Big time save. He was dialed in there. Well, he has the benefit of seeing it coming here, James. So, he gets himself set to position he anticipated. I think he has a book on the shooter to be truthful. And he makes a save. The Bulldogs gain possession along the wall. And now it’s grabbed by Carpenter. And somehow he hangs on. Demigo’s got it in the defensive zone. Skips to the crease and he gets a chunk of that to keep it out. Moves it to Russo. Scooped up along the wall by Grant. Moves it quickly over to Merch. Oh, excellent use of the stick as he knocks that one away. And now it’s over to bleed. Great poke check on the reach. Baltimore’s gained possession along the boards. Quick pass to Sanford. [Applause] Rib Tides got the puck in their own end. Quick feed to Blee and he loses control of the puck. Grabbed along the boards by Audet. Sends it deep inside the offensive zone. No quarter given here as they battle for the loose puck along the boards. slides the pass over to Sanford and some good footwork to kick it away. Tries to get the puck to Russo. Here’s a short pass to Espazito. The Bulldogs take it along the wall. Goender covers it up and we’ll get a reset here in the later stages of this period. It’s a 2-1 hockey game. And they win the offensive zone face off. Now let’s see if they can capitalize. Denied by the goalender. Cut battle along the boards. Puts it away in his own end. Slides it across. It over. There’s a solid collision. San Diego’s moving it up the ice. And the puck is scooped up here into the open ice by Squeezy. Fires it into the offensive zone. Through center along the wing. Baltimore’s got it along the wall. Beautiful read in the defensive end by Buork. Baltimore’s got the puck. Looking for space inside the D zone. Play is called for offside. [Applause] Baltimore’s been bringing the heat offensively all night long and they continue to lead here late in this middle frame. [Music] There it is. That’s a wrap for period number two. Both teams will get a chance to get a little breather here and we’ll come back. Third period action next. [Music] It’s a fun week full of memories. Call us for details or you can visit the team website. [Music] Hope you’re having a great night. Two periods down, one more to go and they’re ready to drop the puck here on period number three. And this one’s underway here in the third. Well, two periods down. Here we go with the third period. Cheryl, your assessment so far. San Diego’s got to stop giving the puck away, James. I mean, when it’s on their stick, it’s like a hot potato and they’re throwing it away. And I’m telling you, their opponent has really dominated possession because of it. They’ve been chasing the game. They got to do something when they get the puck and they got to be confident with it. Hangs on to the puck after taking a hit. moves it to the lead ahead of steam now towards the front. Takes a hit. He goes down to the ice and coughs up the puck. He got all of that hit. They got it on Matt Rush. Dips inside. Digging in defensively to stop that rush down the right side and into the zone. Dishes it off and that’s blocked in traffic. Josh to the puck. He loses control. and he takes the feed. Oh, what a move to get by there. Great save by Jones. San Diego’s across the blue line. Looks to set up at the point now. McIntyre’s going to give everyone a chance to breathe and hang on to the puck. Lots of time left in this period. The Bulldogs are clinging to a 2-1 lead. San Diego’s going to start with the puck inside the offensive zone. Great save. Knocked away in the offensive zone. Big time stop there. Just playing the squeeze here on the offensive end. The fans are all over it. Look really moving the P around with the title towards the Mish. Here’s the shot. Scores. It’s in the back of the net and it comes from an unlikely source because that’s his first career put off goal. He’s been relentless James in this playoffs and you know what? He’s found a way to find the back of the net. That’s going to be a huge confidence boost for himself and his teammates. San Diego’s hard work and tenacity has paid off with the equalizer. Yeah, James, they paw their way back into this one and it’s been a result of hard work, good positioning, and the ability to counterattack. And that’s a quite a punch to get them back at evens. The remainder of this period though, both teams going toe-to-toe. This is going to be a great one. Oh, how did he stop that? What a save by Jones through the neutral zone up along the wing and he takes the pass. Slides it back to the blue line and he takes the feed. Oh, and he just got enough of that one to keep it out. And that slides right out to center ice. Picked up along the wall by Paganski. Puck scooped up by Sheller. throws it to the middle, takes a shot just wide to the net. The Bulldogs will play it from the defensive zone. San Diego’s got a hold of it along the wall and he keeps possession. Moves it over to a Baltimore’s looking to break out at their own end along the wing up the neutral zone. Can’t keep a hold of the after that play. Taken along the wall by Matau to the most and that’s blocked. Rest arms in the air. We got a penalty coming up. Passes it over. There’s the whistle and here’s the call. This is an easy and obvious call to make and the officials right there. James, what are you doing? If you’re going to extend your arms away from your body, you’re going to sit for two minutes. [Music] Power play back to work. Power plays more time on the ice. The ability to get that clock moving. These players know exactly what they’re doing. They work on it. In fact, I spoke to some of them earlier today at the pregame and they talked about the execution and the precision in particular with their puck movement. Another [Music] [Music] face off looming here on this power play. Grants want it in their own end. More time off the clock as they grab the puck. San Diego’s got a hold of it against the wall. We got a penalty coming up here. Whistle blown stopping the play. The coach isn’t impressed with this call at all. It’s late in the third period. It’s a tied game and he wants an explanation as to the why. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] How’s it feeling there? Big opportunity here for them. They’ll have plenty of time to work this five on three with all this time on the five on three. Yes, you can be more patient, but you don’t want to get blown to sleep on the outside. You have to move the coverage a little bit outside of the middle of the ice to be able to open up those lanes and execute. To the front. There’s a shot that’s gloved by Jones. There’s the whistle as the goalie hangs on. Espacito’s ready for the draw as they will continue to try to kill off this penalty. Pock is dropped and we are back underway from center. They get into the attacking area. Baltimore’s going to be able to kill a few seconds off now with the puck and they get the puck out. Grabs the puck and moves on out here with this man advantage. Cuts to the front off the inside of the iron. Grip Tide’s been on the wrong side of the hockey gods tonight, James. How many have they shot off the post and they get the puck out of harm’s way? Takes the shot. Rinky’s penalty has expired and he’ll join the penalty kill as they remain short-handed. Keeps a hold of the puck after that knock. San Diego got possession of the puck. Takes the feed. Grants almost out of the box and they move the puck out of harm’s way. Baltimore’s time in the box is up and we are back to even strength and still tied up here. They are swarming around like bees here in the Ozone. past the midway mark of the frame. It’s all tied up and they win the draw here on their own end. Strowman stick handling in his own zone. Slides it across. Here’s an opportunity in front of the net. Shuts him down. He reads this play perfectly, James. He gets tight to the shooter. There’s no room to put it by him. Fires it. Big time stop. Well, he makes an incredible save on a point blank shot here, James. I love the way he’s aggressive. He’s competitive and he wins the battle. And he gets a piece of that one and denies it. Rib times got the puck at the defensive end. Taken by Squeezy. Moves it quickly over Drawette. Oh, and he tracks it perfectly in the offensive end. The Bulldogs got to work on offense. You can feel the energy in the building right now in this tight game. The pressure is on. You have to find a way to embrace it at this moment. And that goes off a body. And he slides it quickly to Pad. Here’s a blast. Puck grabbed by Mur. Baltimore’s got it in their own zone. Davies takes it into the offensive zone. San Diego’s got control of it now from their own end through the open ice. They’re picking up steam. Stopped by the goender. He got a little piece of that one. This shot’s coming from the middle of the ice and he hit has some heat on it, but he’s ready and waiting for it. He’s to position and he makes the save. Just here in the late stages of this frame, you can feel the energy in this crowd. And it’s a tie game. [Applause] San Diego’s won the draw inside the offensive zone. Now, let’s see what they can do with it. Tough possession right off the draw. James against a very tired group who just iced the puck leads to an opportunity. Petty Falls lugging the puck on the attack without the boards. Oh, how did he get a boot on that? What a stop by McIntyre. Well, this save was way more difficult than it looked, James. I mean, there’s so much traffic in front that he’s fighting through the seat and he finds the puck to make the save. This is a face off go here inside the zone. They win the face off here in their own end and take possession. Quick pass to Carpenter. maintains control of the puck. Solid check to slow him down. San Diego’s got control of it now here in the offensive end. The Bulldogs have it on their own end. Less than 60 seconds to play in this tight one. And that’s intercepted by Robert along the half wall with the puck. And now he moves it quickly to Buick. Oh, you might call that friendly fire as it goes off one of his teammates. Quick feed to the lane and just a little too high from long range. Well, you got to hit the net there. Give your team an opportunity to get a rebound and most importantly retrieve the puck. Toss it up on the play. Fires it on net. Oh, what a chance right there, but misses. Well, creativity and good body positioning opens up that lane, but just sails it over. San Diego’s got the by the defensive zone. And with that, we are heading to overtime. Get those OT picks in on social media and we will see if we can find a winner next. OT should tell us who wins and who loses. And they’re ready to get it underway. Looking for heroics here as they get underway in overtime. Green. Oh, and he comes up with a stop. They fight for it along the boards and the puck’s booted away. Finds some space in the corner. There’s determination on the puck even though he stumbled and has a lack of balance. Really shows right there, James, as he finds a way to get that pass through to the shooter. Here’s a short pass to bleed. Puff picked up by D. McIntyre’s last save was outstanding, James. I mean, it was a valiant effort. That’s what gets it done. It’s beyond the skill to be able to make a save. It is the will and the compete level that energizes everyone around him. Play blown dead. Let’s get the call. As you head into overtime, you know that you’re tired, you’re vulnerable, and a penalty is taken. The coach is just yelling at the official there saying, “How can you call that at this time of the game?” Baltimore special teams have another big opportunity to deliver here. Power play in overtime. You know, the players, the heart rate is elevated. They’re on their toes. Coach’s responsibility to settle them down, remind them of their system. They score. Overtime winner and there is your Stanley Cup champions. The childhood dream comes to an end as they’re victorious to win the Stanley Cup. James, what an unbelievable moment that they’ve shared together. The sacrifices, the preparation, and it all culminates in this. A win, a victorious Stanley Cup. [Applause] [Applause] The blood, the sweat, the tears. It’s all worth it for a chance to hoist the cup which is on the ice. The dream is alive and it is in the building. And now it is a big question is who’s going to hoist that cup? Love to see the order. And here he comes the captain of the squad. And when you talk about ultimate leaders in sports, the amount of times he wins, Cheryl, he might be the epitome of leader. Well, I would say so. I mean, hoisting the cup multiple times, it’s unbelievable. You know, you have to have skill, but this is arguably the toughest trophy to win. And he just puts it on repeat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] You know, for some routine, Cheryl, you say it’s old hat. I don’t think winning the Stanley Cup multiple times ever gets tiresome. Oh, it can be, James. And it’s no fluke, right? you know that he plays in the regular season, how difficult it is to make the playoffs and then to be able to go round after round. I’m telling you, he’s seasoned and that lens right through the dressing room. [Applause] [Applause] There’s a physical price to be paid to win the Stanley Cup. He certainly paid it well. He led his team in hits and I mean there’s no question that the games get tighter and they get more physical and the entire team garers energy off each and every hit. He was so effective when it came to his physical game. [Applause] You know, he’s not going to get the headlines or all the fanfare, but they don’t win without his contributions. No, they don’t, James. I mean, the water bugs, they got to be moving and they got to be creating energy. And that’s exactly what he did. All while contributing at the same time. Let’s face it, you need secondary scoring in a Stanley Cup final. And he provided it. Just a great moment when you become Stanley Cup champions. And then it’s the all hands on deck team photo. And I love this. I love that the Stanley Cups in the middle with the entire group, the staff all wrapped around it just signifying that every player, every staff member was a key component to the win.
