Trading Domi for Bertuzzi is a lateral move where the Leafs take on more salary. Reuniting Matthews with Domi and Bertuzzi on his wings circa the spring 2024 makes way more sense. Maccelli had 18 points last year and scratched down the stretch in Utah so you are absolutely dreaming if you think Berube is slotting him on the top line.
He was all over the place when with the Leafs. Erratic. Only goals were in front of the net when Tavares was already there. A terrible skater. Not defensive!

I would be open to Bertuzzi for Kampf and Robertson at 50% … Kampf at $2.4, Robertson projected to be at $2, if you got Bertuzzi for $2.75 that’s great value and Chicago gets good young scorer in Robertson and a familiar depth C they could trade for a pick in the future.
Then you trade Hildeby, Chadwick, Jarnkrok for Kadri
That just squeezes in on the cap and you run a deep top 9 and solid 4th line.

Nobody is talking about getting rid of the Players that Float around looking for interceptions instead of taking the puck away from the opponent like Marchand plays Hockey.
Mathews and Nylander are the 2 softest players at taking the puck from the enemy so trade them for some puck chasers

It seems treliving thinks this team is making the playoffs. He is looking for those type that can be difference makers at the dance. The lack of top 6 wingers makes this roster a non playoff roster.
this would be good go back to a first line of Matthews Domi and Bertuzzi, they played well together and make austin earn his pay and elevate the other two, also Bertuzzi is a net front presence unlike almost everyone on the team. If they weren't going to resign both that year they shoulda kept Bertuzzi and let domi walk. Then stack that second line with Tavares Knies and Nylander.
