Edmonton Oilers sign Trent Frederic to 8 Year Extension
the Edmonton Oilers continue to be busy as we head into the NHL draft weekend signing Trent Frederick to a new 8-year deal worth 3.85 million per year he’s a 27y old deal obviously acquired at the trade deadline things haven’t gone as well as everyone thought they would have he came in with an injury that lingered he finally got into a game against the LA Kings got injured again on his first shift and then obviously that dragged into the playoffs as well which was an underwhelming performance to say the least i think there were certain moments when he played particularly well i thought the back half of the Stanley Cup final when a lot of guys were falling off he had a few good games with Trent F sorry with Adam Henrik and Jeff Skinner but that still only resulted in one goal which came in the first round against the LA Kings three assists for four points and was plus one throughout the playoffs in 22 games played now obviously the Oilers just moved out of Vander Kane earlier in the week to the Vancouver Conucks which freed up a lot of cap space this $3.85 million now gives the Oilers around 12.35 million to play with but that is before they inevitably move on from Victor Robinson which seems like it’s going to happen here within the next week or so potentially even this weekend and they can maybe get a pick or two in this uh this upcoming draft as well now of course with Trent Frederick like I said he’s 27 years old he’s still still a lot to play with here on an 8-year deal it’s obviously a long-term one and one that was maybe unexpected when uh negotiations first began and I think a four-year deal would have appeased most fans but hey it’s eight years and you’ve potentially got your third line center locked in there for eight years but there’s a lot of ifs with Trent Tre Trent Frederick but one thing we do know is he’s only a couple years removed from two solid seasons with the Boston Bruins where he had 17 goals one season and followed with an 18 goal performance as well it was only this past season where his production dropped off slightly on a Boston Bruins team where hey everyone’s production dropped off but he did have pretty good numbers numbers that matched Brad Marshon in some perspectives too of uh points per 60 he had a better points per 60 than Brad Marshon did before Brad Lawn obviously went off to the Florida Panthers and we all know what happened there another thing that I really like about Trent Frederick’s production in those years with the Boston Bruins who again were one of the best teams in the NHL the season he scored 17 goals he only played 11 minutes and 55 seconds the season he scored 18 goals his minutes increased 30 minutes 45 seconds so he doesn’t need a lot of time to be productive which I think is a really positive thing obviously for an Oilers team that is fairly top heavy he can sit there on your third line he did mention in his end of year media availability that he would have liked to play more center for the team but also open to play in both wings so very versatile player i think when you look past this first season with the team once Adam Henrik is out of the way if he can step into that third line row with the cap going up the way it is this deal might turn out to be pretty okay for the Oilers obviously a lot of ifs they really need to make him into somewhat of a role on the special teams I think to make this justifiable as well didn’t play at all on the on the special teams during the playoffs but that was also part of uh him being injured which made it difficult to do again a lot of ifs but if this pans out and the Oilers can get let’s say 15 goal scorer every single year as the cap continues to increase this deal could look friendly for the Oilers at least the first half of the deal we’ll see what happens on the back half but you kind of got to worry about the nail and for now the Oilers have just signed a 27y old forward that has potential to score and be productive at five on five and maybe contribute to some of your special teams units as well again I think the Oilers will continue to be busy i could see a Victor Robertson trade happening here within the next week or so like I said the draft who knows there was those weird Don rumblings happening last night on social media i don’t suspect that’ll happen anytime soon it’s a very difficult one to do but hey if it does there’s a we’ll be ready oilers Nation all locked in you can check out Oilers Nation every day today at noon monday to Friday as well at noon with myself and Tyler Remchuk any other breaking news we’ll have it here for your Oilers Nation on the YouTube so please subscribe and we’ll see you guys later what’s up Nation citizens if you like that video then you need to be subscribed to the Oilers Nation YouTube podcast live shows exclusive interviews and analysis everything you need from your favorite voices at Oilers Nation and you don’t want to miss any of it so hammer that subscribe button
The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed Trent Frederic, keeping a key depth piece in the fold as they gear up for another Stanley Cup run. Fredericโs physical presence, versatility, and ability to chip in offensively made him a valuable part of the Oilersโ playoff push, and bringing him back ensures the team maintains its identity of grit and depth down the lineup.
Just after the deal was signed Liam Horrobin broke down the Frederic extension, what it means for the Oilersโ bottom six, and how can impact the Oilers for years to come!
What are your thoughts on the extension?

This will age like stinky tofu
Man, I dunno how I feel about signing this "Fent Tredrick" guy ๐
If he gets healthy and works hard on his rehab of his injury, he will be a good asset for the Oilers
I'm not sure how much I like signing a bottom 6 forward to an 8 year deal but maybe this will work out. He did have some good games in the playoffs.
We'll see. He had a bad ankle sprain which is a pain in the arse to recover from. We'll have a better idea next year. He's a big physical guy who apparently can play all around the lineup.
I'm confused Wasn't this already announced a couple days after the finals?
3.3% of our total cap in 3 years, good deal.
Its a contract he can easily outperform
Terrible term
I see this signing as the Oilers saying he is Evander Kane at $1.5 million less (they hope). He has size, can forecheck well and scores occasionally. We will see how this ages, I would have liked it to be a 4 or 5 year deal at this AAV.
Arvidsson, Henrique need to go.
Why long term, do agent, player pressure for the long contract?
Rather have Dylan Holloway
Bad signing for an injury prone underperformer.
He was almost invisible in the latter rounds of the playoffs. I was very disappointed after knowing what he did with Boston but it makes sense that he was injured.
Deal absolutely reeks. If they were giving him that much security with 8 years, shouldโve been 2.5 mil or less
Dobsons deal just screwed the oilers. Bouchard is 5x the player Dobson is, and he just signed for 9.5
๐๐๐
Rediculous to signed this guy. Two dump guys ( Jack Jackson and Stan Bowman) No wander Mcdavid wanted to go to Toronto.
)
Should get rid of Skinner and get a good goalie.
Stud
Awful deal. Dude is a bandaid and Boston fans couldn't wait for him to go. 8 year deal for a bottom 6 guy is INSANE. These types of players don't have much of a career past 30-32 and we are now stuck with him until he is 34.
He's got alot to prove based on what I've seen. Feels like a Holloway hangover. Don't understand 8 yr contracts unless you're a superstar. We'll see
Bennett took 8 million 8 years
Nugent Hopkins took 5 million a year.
Those are guys that want to win a cup,
Everyone that knows hockey that doesn't like the oilers, wants mcdavid to take 20 million a year, because they know if he takes 20 million a year, oilerswill never win a cup,
You have to share the cap space wealth, plain and simple ,if you the cup
